We're calling it right now -- cancel your reservations at the midtown Manhattan Day's Inn, cuz' ain't gonna' be no Warriors representative at this year's NBA Lottery. After 12 years, THE STREAK IS OVER -- your Golden State Warriors will make the playoffs this year as the number eight seed in the Western Conference.

Unlike Monte Poole or Tim Kawakami, there is no "will they or won't they" coming from SFist. This is a done deal. Their season-long fever has broken just in time, and the Warriors now have only to avoid full-scale collapse and they will walk into the playoffs unchallenged.

Spring appears to have, er, sprung, at least temporarily, in most of the Ist-A-Verse, so naturally, we're all feeling pretty good. (Yes, we know that spring doesn't officially start till later this month. Just let us enjoy our weather!) And that makes us that much more eager to share all of the nifty things we're up to... ...

Ho' boy. Somebody better call FEMA. Fire up the buses and make sure that the Oracle has plenty of cots and bottled water, because there could be a CAT5 disaster looming in the Warriors future.

Last night at the Oracle, the team was able to withstand the Sacramento Kings, 126-113, in a game that the hometown hoopsters controlled from the opening minutes, but there's storm clouds brewing. Ironically, last year's killer storm, Hurricane Artest, was in the house to remind the Warriors about decision making. It was ironic, because the Warriors again find themselves toying with the idea of voluntarily welcoming an NBA bad boy into the fold even as their team chemistry seems to be taking on a little water.

Packers 30 49ers 19: In retrospect, this was an obvious game to foresee. The Packers were completely embarrassed the week before and their coach used to be a coach for the Niners. So what you got was a team looking take their frustrations out on another team, coached by someone who probably knows that team a little too well. Either way, the Niners have now lost three in a row after winning three in a row and that's been kind of how every team in the NFL is going this year. Regardless, the Niners giddy dreams of the playoffs are probably dead right now as this game shows the Niners aren't ready for Prime Time yet...

Before we begin, we'd like to extend our deepest sympathies to the family of James Kim. We are not, by any means, trying to discount that tragedy by juxtaposing posts about the Kims with more light-hearted posts. It's the nature of doing a compilation such as this one: we're trying to give a full slice of the goings-on in the Ist-a-Verse: the good, the bad, and the ugly....

USC 23- Cal 9: We honestly felt Cal would have no chance with USC as we figured Cal to be merely a "Good in the Pac 10" type team, the kind of team who could beat the Beavers but not the big guys. But Cal put up a fight and held 'SC close for three quarters before finally giving way to a superior Trojan team. They did have the lead at 9-6 at halftime but between stupid mistakes, turn overs, and some bad breaks, they couldn't do much against the Trojans in the second half, leading to the playing over and over again of that damn USC fight song. We hate that song. ...

">After Wired ran a story documenting the GoogleCenter of the United States, a bunch of ists jumped on the opportunity to figure out their own middle. Gothamist, Chicagoist, Bostonist and Seattlest all zoomed in on their creamy GoogleCenters. A crack cartography team is hard at work determining the GoogleCenter of the Ist-a-verse as you read this... Austinist read a book about Olympian Bode Miller and liked it. They also took a few pictures of......

With the NBA All-Star Game (the WonderCon for posses) coming up and the season kind of, sort of halfway over, it's time to take a look at your 2004-2005 Golden State Warriors. So far, it's been a thrilling season as the team has been one of the big surprises of their division, winning with an exciting up-tempo game and landing two stars on the All-Star team. Oh wait. That's the Washington Wizards, not the Golden......

Our man on the PNW sport beat, Seattlest Seth, has a modest proposal that could be just the thing to turn around the fortunes of the Golden State Warriors, and it has nothing to do with hiring some egghead from Stanford as coach. Chris Tomasson of the Rocky Mountain News in Denver is publishing a series of articles in an 'expose' about marijuana use in the NBA. Apparently, basketball players like to smoke pot!......
