Traffic was terrible on our way to the Asian-Am Film Fest due to the St. Patrick's Day parade -- either Chris Daly's running for District 6 again or they're giving out green beads for celebrants. We were on our way to see The Cats of Mirkitani, or, as we've been calling it all week, "Ross Mirkarimi's cats." (N.B.: Ross Mirkarimi is not Japanese.) What started out as a project about the drawings of homeless SoHo......

There is not nearly enough coverage of Kimberly Guilfoyle and new husband Eric Villency's muffin in the oven. We've been looking all afternoon and these are the only pictures we can find. They're like two weeks old by now! You can find some more pictures from the same day here, captioned "Kimberly Guilfoyle and husband Eric Villency Sighting in Soho After Lunching at Bar Pitti Restaurant -- July 16, 2006." There's also a Manhattan Society......

We -ists are an eclectic bunch, but there's a couple of things we all love: famous people, social causes, and wacky local facts. Join us as we starf**k, get virtuous, and learn across the -ist network! Austinist starts us off right by filling the famous person quota by interviewing Lewis Black, covers the social cause with a non-profit car sharing company, and gives us more wacky local facts than we can handle with Austin by......

A very enthusiastic "HER MOTHER AND I DO!" of support to the genius tipster who passed along the Exclusive Details about the impending Kimberly Guilfoyle-Eric Villency (hereinafter, "the Guilfency") Memorial Day nuptials in Barbados, from Fashion Week Daily! Eric proposed with a 5.2 carat Asscher-cut diamond (huh huh, you said "ass"), which, for those of you in the know, is exactly the same size and shape as Kate Hudson's. Ooh, goody! The big day is......

SFist has not one, not two, but three weddings to go to this summer, and we needed a snazzy suit. Something dark, not too heavy, and cheapcheapcheap. So we went to Thrift Town at 17th and Mission because, well, we do almost all our shopping at Thrift Town. Hey, when you're an underemployed blogger, you've got to look good on a budget. When we lived in New York City, our favorite shop was the......

wb_newnamegrf.jpg We fondly remember when we lived in New York oh so many years ago and we had a chuckle with a dear friend about a hilarious article in the New York Times about how they were going to name that little section of SoHo west of Broadway "NoLIta." "Nolita! North of Little Italy! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!" we said. Both of us moved to San Francisco shortly afterwards, and now the name Nolita is so unremarkable that it's become the name of an indie-pop chanteuse's album. Go figure. We were reminded of this touching tale of New York in the 90s by a piece in the Chron's newly re-jazzed San Francisco section, about how the neighborhood by the Farmers' Market and the Waterfront is taking a vote on adopting a cool new moniker for the area. Residents and people who work in the area say it'll help their image and give them more clout at City Hall if they have a buzzy new name to call themselves. We giggled a little when we read this -- but hey, no doubt that "Nolita" has done pretty well for itself since we left New York. Names under consideration include: the East Harbor District, Historic Waterfront, NoMa (oh Noma!), Seawall, and Yerba Buena Cove. We kind of like "Barbary Coast." If you live or work in the area, you're welcome to vote from 6-8 at MacArthur Park. We're looking forward to seeing new Neighborhoodies with whatever name wins the election jauntily festooned on the front! ...
