Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen Wedding Dress Reviewed

Kate Middleton's Alexander McQueen Wedding Dress Reviewed

Kate Middleton and Prince William got hitched today. Did you watch? Did you cry? Did you even care? Anyway, the most important part of this wedding (nay, any wedding) is the gown. The Duchess of Cambridge wore a dress by Sarah Burton, artistic director of Alexander McQueen, with a v-neck and lace long sleeves. (Hopefully, this will put a dent in the overplayed strapless gown market.) SFist asked StyleBistro Managing Editor Chloe Harris for her thoughts on Middleton's frock. Harris tells us: "Alexander McQueen was the rare genius who could make a gown both majestic and cutting-edge, so I was secretly hoping for a McQueen design. For me, Kate Middeton's gown lacked a bit of that raw but intricate drama that I love so much from McQueen, but I think Sarah Burton did a wonderful job of toeing the line between Kate's brand of simple chic and the majesty required of a royal wedding. It was a gown fit for a modern Grace Kelly." more ›

Yeah, we're totally going to this. Whatever. Shut up. When Prince Williams marries Kate Middleton next week, Gilt City and 7x7 will host a party honoring elite British matrimony at the Palace Hotel. (Yeah, we watched the Lifetime movie, too. And what?) Come on, the entire world will be wondering -- the important parts of the world, anyway -- if Middleton's dress will outshine Princess Diana's 25-foot train wedding gown. Don't you want to be in a state of glamour and/or glitz upon the big reveal? Of course you do. more ›

Nob Hill Gazette's Annual Snob Score Cards Revealed

If we can leave you with one pertinent piece of information in our lifetime, it's this: When in doubt, turn to the . Why, it's chockfull of pointless rich-bitch information you need to know about this very second. Take, for example, their annual “A” list, which tracks "the Bay Area’s most talked about, scandalous, and admired celebs, socialites, politicians, and beautiful people during 2010" via how often their aggressively F5'd faces appear in the top-drawer publication. more ›

7x7's Hot 20 Under 40 Revealed

Things sure have changed since the Hartle era at la-di-da 7x7 Magazine came to an end. For example, it's now less la-di-da. And we like that. Another example? Getty Divorce Gets Ugly

Getty Divorce Gets Ugly

High society dilettante and late-night SFist commenter Peter Getty, according to Gawker, is going through a divorce -- a nasty one. His wife, Jacqueline Getty, a Coppola, accuses Getty "threatening to kill her at least once, of breaking her arm by striking it, and of choking her." (Which: Oh my God, dude!) In return for his alleged acts of domestic violence, Jacqueline is asking for "$314,000 per month to support her lifestyle and an extra $200,000 per month on top of that." more ›

SF Society: Dede Wilsey Threw A Holiday Party, You Weren't Invited

Great news: The joyous-to-read Catherine Bigelow returns to SF Chronicle to observe the bizarre and intricate rituals of San Francisco society. (Bigelow used to be a full-timer at Chron, then went to 7x7, and now returns to the former as a freelancer. Whew.) Her first assignment? Sean Wilsey's stepmother's famous holiday party. "This year, Wilsey pruned her 350-person guest list a bit - mixing it up with faces from her other worlds: UCSF's Dr. Sam Hawgood, CEO Mark Laret and UCSF Chancellor Sue Desmond-Hellman, as well as politicos Attorney General Jerry Brown and Mayor Gavin Newsom, who've beelined to Wilsey's door (and pocketbook) for fundraisers," Bigelow notes in today's column. No word, however, if Dede unleashed her hounds on guests overstaying their welcome. more ›
