The silence, as it were, will be deafening tonight at Shoreline Amphitheatre after Depeche Mode's abrupt cancellation of their show due to Dave Gahan's exhausted vocal chords. As some small consolation to those fans currently crying into their lunchboxes, we give you this: the slightly pixelated, probably VHS-transferred, official video for "Enjoy the Silence" off 1990's Violator. Ah, how we long for the days when the boys were so young, well-rested, and svelte.

Score Cheap Shoreline Lawn Tix, Including Depeche Mode, Today, Select Wednesdays

If you're planning to purchase lawn tickets for any Shoreline Amphitheatre concerts this summer, be sure to get them via Live Nation on a select No Service Fee Wednesday, including today, for an all-in-one price of $24.99. This is an especially great deal for concerts such as Depeche Mode and Def Leppard/Poison/Cheap Trick, where regular lawn tickets start at $40, once all of the annoying service fees are factored in.

'Old School Fiesta' at Shoreline Leads to Fights, Stabbings

Ever had a lawn seat at a concert where everyone around you got super aggressive about protecting their blanket real estate? Well, consider yourself lucky that you weren't at KISS FM's Old School Fiesta at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View on Saturday night, where fights broke out on the lawn just an hour after the gates opened, and continued on through the night until six people had to be treated for stab wounds and the band War had to end their set early, at 10:15 p.m. because the scene was just too chaotic. Cops showed up in riot gear, the works. We're not sure what this says about fans of War... er, yes we are.

Got a second? Good! Because we want to thank the advertisers on SFist this week:

We parked in the hay last Saturday evening and were told by one of Shoreline Amphitheater's parking attendants, "Watch out for that big hole. We're right on the fault line!" Then, after walking for what seemed like a mile, we were finally able to hear the faint strumming of Joanna Newsom's harp and her signature, endearingly quivering voice. It had probably been ten years since we had last been to an amphitheater, and we realized upon entering the event that they all look the same, for the most part.
