A woman who was found near the Kaiser ER with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound told police she walked a mile to the hospital after she was shot near Jefferson Square Park.

The San Francisco Police Department said they received a report around 4:35 pm Tuesday that the woman, who was found on the 2300 block of O’Farrell Street near Kaiser Medical Center’s emergency room, had sustained a gunshot wound, as the Chronicle reports.

The woman told police she was inside a vehicle on the 1100 block of Turk Street, near Jefferson Square Park, when she heard several gunshots. She said she realized she had been struck during the gunfire and walked herself to the hospital a mile away.

Police said the woman was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

No other details were provided about the victim or the circumstances of the shooting.

According to KTVU, the information provided by police is preliminary, and the incident is under investigation. It's not clear if police have any leads.

As SFist reported in February, a 15-year-old girl was killed and two others were hospitalized in a shooting near Jefferson Square Park. Two teen suspects were arrested.

Jefferson Square Park was in the news early last year when it became a sudden magnet for drug sales and drug use, prompting SF Mayor Daniel Lurie to orchestrate a huge nighttime raid of the park. We learned in November that out of the 86 people arrested in the raid, only one suspect received felony drug charges, and they were later acquitted.

Early morning gunfire broke out during an argument inside EZ's Lounge on 14th Street in downtown Oakland Saturday, killing two people, including an eighth grade teacher, and injuring five others who are expected to survive.

The shooting happened around 3:30 am Saturday at EZ's Lounge on 14th Street in downtown Oakland near City Hall, following the popular First Friday street festival. As the Bay Area News Group reports, police said the fight began inside the bar, but none of the seven victims were believed to be the intended targets.

The News Group reports that the victim who died at the scene was identified as 33-year-old Latetia “Teesh” Bobo, an eighth grade teacher at Caliber Beta Academy in San Pablo, as well as a writer and producer in the music industry. As the Chronicle reports, a 25-year-old man, whose name hasn't been released, later died at the hospital Saturday morning around 11:30 am.

Bay City News reports that five other people were injured, and three were hospitalized in stable condition. All are expected to survive. Per the News Group, video footage of the shooting (included below) shows patrons fleeing the bar as gunfire was erupting. Police detained several people and confiscated multiple firearms.

“Ms. Bobo was such a special part of our community. She brought kindness, warmth, joy, laughter, creativity, and deep care into everything she did,” said Caliber Beta Academy, in a statement, per the News Group. “Whether it was supporting a student, connecting with a family, hosting a funeral for a fictional character, or collaborating with a colleague, she did so with intention and heart. She was an incredible educator and an even more incredible human being who truly valued relationships and community.”

In the deputies’ defense, the man they shot had called 911, claimed that he had a gun, and said that he intended to harm people with it. But when the smoke had cleared, it turns out the man was just carrying a pipe.

KTVU has the news that Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies fatally shot a man who they thought was brandishing a gun at around 3:15 am Monday morning in the San Leandro area, on the 16000 block of Selborne Drive. The deputies said they saw the man as an "immediate threat," and KTVU reports that "Surveillance video obtained by KTVU shows the man slowly walking toward deputies before raising an object at them."

Deputies thought he had a gun, and they had reason to think that. The man had reportedly phoned 911 claiming he had a gun, and saying that he intended to harm people with it. But once deputies assessed the scene after the shooting, it turned out the man was only holding a pipe.

The man who was shot has not yet been identified. Alameda County Sheriff's Sergeant Roberto Morales told KTVU there was a "press hold" on the man’s name, and did not clarify how long that hold would remain in effect.  

Either way, state Attorney General Rob Bonta's office is obliged to investigate the shooting. Bonta’s office now investigates all officer-involved shootings wherein the suspect was not armed with a gun.

This is the first time Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies have shot and killed someone since July 3, 2023, when they shot and killed a man who appeared to be trying to grab a gun away from a California Highway Patrol officer.  

Update: Bay Area News Group now has information on the victim, after his mother, Kristina Anderson, has gone public decrying the killing of her son, saying, "I can’t believe this is the country I am living in. Because this is not supposed to happen to anyone."

His name was reportedly Anthony Anderson, and he was 40 years old. Anderson was born in San Francisco and was reportedly an accomplished trumpet player.

Kristina Anderson questions Alameda County deputies' description of events, and says, "He just was having problems with depression, and he was reaching out for help. And the help he got was to get killed."

She adds, "Anthony was incredible, wonderful, not a mean bone in his body."

A 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested Monday over the fatal Friday night Western Addition shooting of 15-year-old Jayda Mabrey, a shooting that also hospitalized two other victims.

The Western Addition neighborhood was shocked Friday afternoon after a 5:15 pm triple shooting near Jefferson Square park. That shooting took the life of 15-year-old Jayda Mabrey, who by all accounts was an innocent bystander in the wrong place at the wrong time. Two other victims were also shot and left with non-life-threatening industries.

But three days later on Monday, SFPD arrested two teens for the shooting, according to KPIX. But the two suspects are both minors, so SFPD is not releasing much information about these suspects.

“On February 2, 2026, investigators developed probable cause to arrest a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old suspect for the shooting,” SFPD said in a Tuesday morning press release. “Both suspects were booked into the Juvenile Justice Center for homicide. Due to the suspects' ages, their identities will not be released.”

The young murder victim Jayda Mabrey was reportedly a student at Gateway High School. “Jayda was a bright, fun-loving young girl who meant everything to those who knew her,” according to a GoFundMe established for Jayda Mabrey. “She was a beloved daughter, sister, friend, and so much more. Her smile, laughter, and kind spirit touched so many lives, and her absence has left an unimaginable void.”

A 40-year-old man is charged with shooting and killing three people at the Sky Market corner store in Oakland's Woodland neighborhood, and the whole dispute was apparently an illicit marijuana deal gone wrong.

When everyone returned to work after the New Year’s Day holiday, we noted that there had been two separate homicides on New Year’s Day in Oakland. That pattern regrettably continued into the new year, as three people were shot and killed on January 3 in East Oakland, at 3 am at the Sky Market corner store at 85th Avenue and International Boulevard.    

But the Oakland Police Department finally has their suspect in that one, as KTVU reports that the OPD has arrested 40-year-old Darrell Tatmon.  Tatmon is charged with three counts of murder, and could potentially face life in prison with enhancements.

The shooting spree took the lives of brothers Luis Valdez-Gomez and Kevin Andrew Valdez-Gomez, who were allegedly buying marijuana from a street dealer outside the corner store, and 54-year-old Miguel Ramirez, who was apparently just an innocent bystander who got caught in the crossfire.  

The circumstances of the shooting remain vague. The alleged marijuana dealer was reportedly a friend of Tatmon's, and some sort of dispute broke out between the Valdez-Gomez brothers and the dealer. (The weed deal transaction was apparently caught by store surveillance cameras.)

Tatmon allegedly jumped in and punched one of the brothers once the dispute escalated, and the Valdez-Gomez brother was holding a gun, which he then whipped out. Police say that Tatmon then whipped out his own gun, and the Valdez-Gomez brother fired first. Tatmon then allegedly shot and killed both Valdez-Gomez brothers and the 54-year-old innocent bystander.

KTVU reports that "What started the initial altercation was unclear, but police said audio indicates Tatmon felt the brothers had disrespected him and derided them as 'Millennials.'"

According to the Bay Area News Group, Tatmon was scheduled to be arraigned today, and is currently being held without bail at Dublin’s Santa Rita Jail.

The O'Brien Tract neighborhood of San Jose saw four people shot on the street in a 3:30 am Friday morning incident, and all four have been hospitalized as police look for answers and for a suspect.

The Christmas season in San Jose was unfortunately rung in with a Black Friday triple shooting at the Valley Fair Mall, right at the San Jose-Santa Clara border. And now it seems that the Christmas season ended in San Jose on the same regrettable note.

KPIX reports that four people were shot at about 3:30 am on the early morning of December 26, somewhere on the 800 block of South First Avenue in San Jose’s O'Brien Tract neighborhood. The names and conditions of the four victims are currently unknown, though the San Jose Police Department acknowledged that all four were hospitalized.

That said, police have not acknowledged where on the block that shooting happened, saying only that it took place in front of an unnamed business.  KTVU reports that “Police did not specify what business it was, but it appeared as though it might have occurred at or near Lolita's Furniture store.”

The department has not said whether they have identified any suspects, any possible motive, nor any circumstances that may have led to the shooting. But South First Street was closed down between Martha and Virginia streets for much of Friday morning as an investigation was taking place.  

The San Jose Police Department is expected to hold a press conference later in the day Friday, at which point more information should be made available.

The 17-year-old who allegedly shot three people in a crowded Santa Clara mall on Black Friday has been charged with attempted murder, and the Santa Clara County DA is determined that the kid face trial as an adult.

There is a sadly familiar chain of events in last weekend’s Black Friday shooting of three people at Santa Clara’s Valley Fair Mall, which police say was a gang-related shooting. Much like a fatal stabbing involving teenagers at San Jose's other large mall, Santana Row, back in February, the alleged shooter in this case did not actually know the men he allegedly intended to shoot, but he perceived them to be members of a rival street gang, just because of the colors they were wearing. (The 15-year-old boy killed in February, who was not a gang member, was allegedly targeted because he was wearing a red jacket on Valentine's Day.)

Regardless, the alleged shooter was found and arrested Sunday night, and it turns out he was just 17 years old. The three shooting victims have all survived, but Bay Area News Group reports that the Santa Clara DA has charged the teen with three counts of attempted murder, and wants the 17-year-old to face trial as an adult.

“When you’re 17 years old, and you take a loaded gun into a crowded shopping mall and you spray it, and you come within inches of killing someone, feet of killing multiple people, you need to go to prison for that,” Santa Clara DA Jeff Rosen told reporters Wednesday morning.

According to KTVU, the 17-year-old is also facing additional charges of personal use of a firearm, plus two counts of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. The teen has not been identified by name because he is a minor, but as Rosen pointed out, he was already on probation for a concealed-gun possession charge this past February.

The victims, including the 28-year-old man who was reportedly the intended target and two female bystanders, all survived and were all treated for non-life-threatnening injuries.

Whether the suspect is tried as an adult or a juvenile will make an enormous difference in his sentencing, should he be found guilty. As KPIX explains, these charges would merit a minimum 15-year jail sentence if he’s tried as an adult. If he’s convicted as a juvenile, he’d be kept in a juvenile facility, and could be out in three to five years.  

“I don’t believe that three to five years in a juvenile facility will rehabilitate this 17 year old … I don’t think it reflects the seriousness of this conduct,” Rosen said at his Wednesday press conference, per Bay Area News Group. “Taking a loaded firearm into the mall on the Friday after Thanksgiving, and spraying six bullets, is extremely dangerous conduct and will require a significant period of time incarcerated to rehabilitate this person.”

There is also the matter of the teen’s alleged accomplice, 21-year-old Allana Nevaeh Murillo, who was seen pushing a baby stroller alongside the alleged shooter. She is the girlfriend of the teen’s brother, 20-year-old Christian Joel Duran, and the pair are also accused of harboring the suspect in the days after the shooting.

As the news group points out, Murillo and Duran are already facing felony charges for their alleged role in a gang-related 2023 brawl and stabbing at James Lick High School in San Jose.

The unnamed 17-year-old faces his next court date on Monday, December 15. Any ruling on whether he will be tried as an adult or a minor is likely to take months, if not longer.

A high school student was shot Tuesday afternoon at Phillip and Sala Burton High School near McLaren Park, and is reportedly in stable condition, while a suspect is in custody for the shooting.

An alarming development at the Portola District’s Phillip and Sala Burton High School Tuesday afternoon, as the Chronicle reports that a high school student was shot on campus sometime shortly before 12:10 pm. That’s when SF Fire Department officials were called onto the scene, and the student was transported to a hospital by 12:30 pm, where they are reportedly in stable condition.  

Most of what we know right now is what has been transmitted via the social media accounts of the district’s Supervisor Jackie Fielder. "My office was informed around 12:40pm today that a student at Burton High School was shot in the leg and is in stable condition,” Fielder posted at around 1:15 pm. “I am in contact with SFPD and SFUSD as they secure the campus, conduct their investigation, and review footage of the incident."

Fielder added that the campus had indeed been secured. “Every child deserves to feel safe at school and in their communities,” she said in a follow-up tweet. “We can never accept senseless violence that disrupts any student’s well being and pursuit of their education.”

Not long after her initial post, Fielder added that “the suspect is in custody.” There is no information on who that suspect is, whether they are a student, or if they have any relationship with the shooting victim.

Update: At 2:56 pm Tuesday, the SFPD released a statement on the capture of the suspect. "The San Francisco Police Department Crime Gun Investigations Center (CGIC) located a juvenile male suspect on the 1400 block of Shafter Avenue and took him into custody without further incident," the department said. "During the arrest, a firearm was located and recovered. "

San Francisco Police officers patrolling the South of Market neighborhood early Sunday morning found a man in the road suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene, and the case is being investigated as a homicide.

As KRON4 reports, the man was found in the street in the area of Sixth and Natoma streets around 12:15 am Sunday. Per the Chronicle, officers began rendering aid, and paramedics arrived soon after. The victim, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene, per NBC Bay Area.

Update: The Chronicle reported Monday that police have arrested one suspect in connection with the shooting, 48-year-old Derral Robi of San Francisco. Robi appears to have a felony record.

Homicide detectives said that officers with the Drug Market Agency Coordinating Center spotted Robi, who matched a suspect description, in the vicinity of Market and Jones streets about a block away from the crime scene. He was arrested sometime on Monday and booked on suspicion of murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A mass gang-related shooting occurred at a child’s birthday party in the Central Valley just north of Stockton Saturday evening, killing four people — including 3 children — and injuring 11 others. There are reportedly multiple suspects.

Update: Per Sacramento's Fox40, a total of 15 victims were shot, and the four who died were ages 8, 9, 14, and 21. Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi confirmed the shooting was gang-related.

Update 2: Per the Chronicle, the gathering consisted of 100 to 150 people. Multiple suspects reportedly began shooting inside the banquet hall and continued shooting as they made their way outside. At least one of the surviving victims is in critical condition.

As KTVU reports, the shooting happened just before 6 pm Saturday at a banquet hall on the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in San Joaquin County, north of Stockton, in a suspected targeted incident, per KGO. In an announcement, Stockton Vice Mayor Jason Lee initially referred to the incident as taking place at an ice cream shop, but authorities later clarified it happened near a Dairy Queen and other businesses, per Bay Area News Group.

“A birthday party should never be a place where families fear for their lives,” Vice Mayor Lee said, per Bay Area News Group. “Violence touched my life as a young person, and seeing our own children, parents and neighbors go through this shakes me deeply. Stockton is my home. These are our families. This is our community.”

Heather Brent, a spokesperson for the San Joaquin County sheriff’s office, confirmed that both children and adults had been shot.

“This is a very active and ongoing investigation, and information remains limited,” San Joaquin County Sheriff’s officials said on social media Saturday night. “Early indications suggest this may be a targeted incident, and investigators are exploring all possibilities. Detectives are actively working to determine the circumstances leading up to this tragedy.”

Per Sacramento’s KCRA, the suspect remains at large. The Stockton Police Department, Manteca Police Department, and the FBI are also investigating.

Residents in southern Novato in Marin County were told to shelter-in-place Thanksgiving night as authorities investigated a possible shooting near the US Coast Guard Housing. The order was lifted around 10:25 pm Thursday. The search was resumed as additional gunfire was heard Friday and Saturday.

Update: Marin Independent Journal has provided additional details about the incident, which began around 6:30 pm Thursday when security guards for the US Coast Guard witnessed a suspected trespasser on South Oakwood Drive near the housing complex. After the guards began chasing the suspect, they heard what sounded like gunfire erupt near the sports courts on Crescent Drive, according to the Novato Police Department. Per the Independent Journal, authorities were unable to locate a gun or a suspect. Additionally, one of the guards fell and suffered minor injuries during the chase.

Update 2: Per NBC Bay Area, authorities resumed their search of the Coast Guard Housing Saturday as more gunshots could be heard overnight Friday and Saturday morning. It was called off at noon Saturday.

No bullets or other evidence has been found. It’s not known whether the recent gunshots are related to Thursday’s.

The Novato Police Department wrote on social media that the suspect was a white male wearing tattered black clothing. The post also mentioned authorities are aware that the gunshots could potentially be from local duck hunters.

As KPIX reports, multiple agencies were at the scene investigating the incident Thursday night, including Novato Police and Fire, the Marin County Sheriff's Office, San Rafael Police, and the Coast Guard Investigative Service. Authorities issued a shelter-in-place for residents at the Coast Guard housing complex as well as surrounding areas, including South Oakwood Drive, Bolling Circle, Smart Hamilton Station, Hathaway Drive, and Marin Valley Mobile Home Park, per KTVU.

The housing complex is located at the former Hamilton Army Airfield off Highway 101, per Bay City News. It consists of 121 housing units ranging from single rooms, deluxe suites, and two- and three-bedroom duplexes, which serve as temporary quarters for active duty, retired, and reserve military personnel and their families, as well as civilian Coast Guard staff, per the Coast Guard’s website.

Per KPIX, the scene was cleared, and the shelter-in-place was lifted around 10:25 pm Thursday, as authorities determined there was no immediate threat to the public. Residents are urged to report suspicious activity by calling 415-897-1122.

It appears there are some mental health issues with the 27-year-old man accused of fatally shooting Laney College coach John Beam, as he reportedly told investigators that he shot Beam because he thought Beam was performing witchcraft on him.

Tributes continue pouring in for legendary former Skyline High and Laney College football coach John Beam, who died on Friday after being shot on the Laney College campus early Thursday afternoon. There are a handful of players in the NFL right now who played for Beam in college, including Chicago Bears cornerback Nashon Wright, who made an interception Sunday, and dropped to a knee in an emotional tribute to his mentor Beam.

Nashon Wright’s homage to Coach Beam can be seen below. But closer to home at the site of Beam’s fatal shooting at Laney College, police had arrested 27-year-old Cedric Irving Jr for the shooting early Friday morning. On Monday, Alameda County prosecutors announced they were charging Irving with first-degree murder for the killing, as well as additional gun charges.  

Early reports were that Irving confessed to the killing pretty much immediately once he was located by police. Now the Chronicle reports on an additional puzzling aspect of the killing, which is that the alleged shooter Irving claimed that Beam was performing witchcraft on him.  

“The man accused of shooting and killing legendary Oakland football coach and Laney College Athletic Director John Beam last week told investigators he thought Beam had been using witchcraft on him and others,” according to the Chronicle. “Police believe Irving had a ‘fixation’ on Beam.”

Irving had never played for Beam, as Irving played high school football at Skyline High School some ten years ago. Beam left Skyline High for Laney College in 2004, though often visited the high school and was given a hero’s welcome, having won 15 league championships there.

Investigators say that after the shooting, Irving simply hopped on an AC Transit bus toward an area near Oakland’s Eastmont Mall, where Irving is reportedly currently living unsheltered. When police tracked Irving down around 3 am Friday morning, they say he was not surprised about being questioned, freely admitted to the killing, and also acknowledged that he owned the murder weapon, a gun he was carrying in his own duffle bag.

Irving is being held without bail at Santa Rita Jail, and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in an Alameda County court.
