Well, first and most importantly! -- SFist MattyMatt's started a new job so he's been pretty busy at work and hasn't had time to post lately, for all folks asking about him in the SFist Tips column!. But he's still here, we promise! We miss him too! (Meanwhile, you guys can always check out his personal blog.) And second of all -- goodness, what a terrible day on the commutes. It's like when the sun,......

First of all, a big sloppy THANKS! to SFist MattyMatt for yesterday evening's Oh No Ed Jew news update! We were out. So what's the latest on Tapioca Ed for today? Well, he did make it to the Board of Supes meeting yesterday, where he said he wouldn't resign and refused to take any other questions unless they were about his trip to China. At the meeting, Jew was the only person who voted against......

Guess who's back talking about MUNI for the ABC 7 I-Team?????? (4:33 on the video). Since Gavin hasn't done anything outrageous lately, Dan Noyes turns his attention to the perennial favorite of complaining about MUNI -- this time discovering the name of the driver who's gotten the most citizen complaints (for ignoring a beating at the back of the bus, refusing to call the police on pickpockets, and swearing at passengers, to name a few.)......

In the latest attempt to do something, anything, to improve the Muni's timeliness as dictated by the Transit Effectiveness Project, the Powers that Be are contemplating adding cameras to Muni buses to try and catch people who double park in bus-only lanes. The reason, of course, is that people blocking buses from going down the road cause some of the delays. Both Gavin and Ken Garcia looked at early footage taken and said they were amazed at all the double parkers they saw. They also agreed that while the dialogue in the footage was great, they thought the whole thing was too derivative of Godard. ...

In light of all the recent dagger throwing between cyclists and drivers, SFist Matty Matt found this video having fun with the issue. Now, we should warn people that it makes fun of one side of the debate so be prepared to get the bile up. Also, remember, we're not doing this for editorial reasons to say we think one way or the other-- we just think it's funny....

MattyMatt's bit of cinema verite in regards to Take Your Girlfriend to Work Day seems to be the hottest video in town as Phil Matier (as in Matier & Ross) has designated us as experts in this whole video blogging/YouTube thing. So tune into KPIX Channel 5 sometime around 6:30 (we think) as SFist MattyMatt and SFist Jon appear on TV yet again and play pundit. Extra special bonus: you get to see just how hungover SFist Jon is today and find out what embarrassing thing he did over the weekend that he hopes never, ever appears anywhere online....

Update as of 10 a.m. 3/2/07: new link found in our quest to collect all the entertaining Kenneth Eng links on the Internet after the jump! This one quotes Maya Angelou! Also: why did the Chronicle's editorial page call him "Richard" Eng in the hard copy of the paper (corrected online)? At least Bad Reporter got Eng's name right. --- Okay, okay, we know we just put up a post about the Asianweek situation, but......

Back in 2005, SFist MattyMatt profiled local author Carl Hayes, who'd written an online novel about a Haight Street hipster transitioning into corporate culture. Well, a self-publishing press house has picked up Hayes' book, which can be purchased at fine online bookseller websites and is called The New and Improving Thomas. Adding to the SFist thrills, we've also profiled the man who shot the cover of the book, named Merkley. Here's Merkley's flickr shots of......

As we promised earlier, SFist MattyMatt was indeed on! NBC 11 News this evening -- in the sweet spot right before the weather! -- talking about his 33 MUNI bus video clip with the fare dodger that we featured as SFist's douche of the week. Thrilling!!! And here MattyMatt is on YouTube! (1:47.) The other exciting things we noticed in the segment -- besides how totally adorable MattyMatt was on camera, of course --......

We vowed we wouldn't do it, but since we're obsessively hitting refresh on our browser every five minutes anyways, we might as well! We may take off in a bit to hit some of these election parties we've been hearing about, but here's where we are for now. Updates on top, like a mini-blog. 12:10 a.m.: Okay, we're calling it quits for today. The stats are: Daly at 49.66% with 5,471 votes and Black at......

Well, hello there! Some of you may remember a different post, written by a different SFist writer, at this location. So to refresh your memory, SFist MattyMatt and commenter Jameson were wondering why the door hangers and election mailer cards with the Guardian's logo on them say that Chris Daly, Alix Rosenthal, and Emily Drennan (the BART board) paid for them. Were the Guardian's endorsements for sale? Well, the post went up, and we were......

Last week's winner, the East Bay Express. DAMN Choreography objects to an article about them with the title "Tits and Assets." It's their special East Bay politics issue! Political bloggers wreaking havoc in Alameda, that Democrat running against Pombo might actually win, hipsters are voting for Aimee Allison. As we promised earlier this morning, in response to SFist MattyMatt's brilliant suggestion -- it's Ask Chris A Question! Do you have a burning question you'd like to ask Chris Daly? Post it in the comments! We can't promise you that he'll answer it or anything, but hey -- you never know, he might. SFist Krissy's weekly music review column's not only indispensable for the latest indie rock goings-on around town and those must-hear .mp3s, but also hosts some cool-looking art too. Ratatat! We'd like to take a moment to break from our usual schedule of links to Gavin Newsom gossip, Web 2.0 snark and other Frisco-centric blog boosterism to highlight the plight of Survival Research Labs. Apparently a quarter-century of creating literally bleeding-edge art from the electro-mechanical detritus of the modern world isn't enough to keep the bulldozers at bay. That's right, having already been blacklisted by the San Francisco Fire Department from ever performing in......

What's black and white and read all over? Our Google coverage!
Speaking of tech, our tech editor and media maven MattyMatt displayed his polymathematical skills in abundance, simultaneously covering the new SF360 film venture, reading comics, watching American Idol, and yvesdropping to boot. Whew! What a week!
We're ha-ha-haing our way through the ongoing SF Sketchfest, and checking out NoirQuake! (exclamation point our own). or did you win tickets to Slim's One Night Stand?

A battle is brewing over the putting of Marines commended for heroism in the Iraqi War on billboards throughout the area. The billboards are part of the Marines' "Hometown Heroes" campaign which puts the pictures of local Marines up on the billboards with a mention of what award they have won and why. One of those who will be featured is Cpl. Michael Montemayor of San Jose who braved enemy gunfire and ran into a canal to rescue another injured Marine. This being the Bay Area, however, not all are psyched on the idea. Critics are calling the program a recruiting tool and "propaganda" because in honoring someone for heroism, they are making heroism seem, umm, heroic and thus might get people to join the military to be a hero. Not every anti-war group is against the billboards, however as some are pointing out that it's okay to call someone brave enough to jump into enemy fire a hero and still disagree with the war. ...

Folks who voted before work were smiling and nodding at each other on public transportation today (in part because -- really, these red "I Voted! Ya Vote!" stickers they're giving out in SF today are awesome) -- if you haven't yet, sneak out of work early this afternoon, or make sure you're at your polling place by 8 p.m. If you've forgotten where to go, you can either go to your City Hall or check here (here for SF).
So how was the franchisement process for your faithful SFist staffers? Well.... our well-caffeinated SFist Jeremy reports that his polling place, in the heart of District 8, took 3 minutes, and he got to work early. Damn the efficiency
of the Noe Valley voting process! He was disconcerted that the friendly pollsters didn't find it necessary to check his ID or validate his claims of residence in any way. Other than that, smooth as a baby's ass.
Everyone's favorite registered socialist, SFist Jackson, used his best handwriting to strike a blow against the man in District 11, reporting: "I relished my opportunity to participate in a democratic system today -- take that, Prince Charles! While Edward Champion had some problems this morning, my experience couldn't have gone smoother. There were six polling places and no line. Maybe it was too early, but sadly there was no bake sale to support Buena Vista Elementary this year. I proudly wrote in Anthony Faber for City Assessor, and also wrote in somebody for City Attorney (let's just say she's a fellow blogger). Now I have a nice "I voted!" sticker to wear with my smirk."
Hear about SFist MattyMatt's absentee voter experience, the vigilant pollwatchers at SFist Jon's voting place, and how non-citizen SFist Ced wants to participate in the American Experience after the jump! And staffers and readers, share your voting experiences in the comments as you come back. (Did anyone get exit-polled? We never get exit polled.) ...

Documentaries about San Francisco are always our favorite type of anything. So we bundled up for the outdoor screening of the Madcat Int'l Women's Film Festival's City Nights program at El Rio, which features one long documentary and five shorts about SF.
Before the movies started, fest director Ariella Ben-Dov (or at least we think that's who it was -- we missed the intro) warned everyone that if it rained, we'd either need to help the techs cover up all the equipment with tarps, or at least get out of the way. But the rain never got to the lower Mission and the movies spooled out unscathed.
After the jump: cemeteries, our failed yvesdropping attempt (how does SFist MattyMatt do it?), and -- hey! that's our street!...

SFist Rita's watching the Schwarzen for the next two weeks as SFist Jon takes a well-deserved vacation!
Approval levels in the 36 percent range -- are we talking about Bush or the California governor? What's the SchwartzenWatcher got cooking for you today?
The governor's veto-happy! It's not just gay marriage, either -- he also just vetoed the bill that was going to double fines for traffic violators on 19th Avenue. Activists with relatives killed on 19th Avenue are furious, especially since Mr. Governor gave no reason for the veto except saying that we needed more traffic safety awareness in general. Personally, we're also impressed with the Examiner's headline on this article: "GOVERNOR STEPS IN FRONT OF HIGHER 19TH AVE. FINES."
Now, we've been saying for some time, what kind of guy decides he's going to pick a fight with teachers, nurses, and firefighters in the first place? (you know, "People like me.") Aren't these the most beloved people in the world? Why not just take a stance against puppies too while you're at it? Well, ask and ye shall receive -- Schwarzenegger has announced that he will be vetoing a bill aimed at stopping the sale of puppies that are too young to leave their mothers by the puppy mill industry. We are so excited for protests with nurses in white uniforms, firefighters in suspenders, and little puppies with signs around their neck that say "ARF! for Angelides!"
Grrrrrr, you say! What can be done? Well -- as SFist MattyMatt says, there's a protest tonight about gay marriage at the state building at 455 Golden Gate (between Larkin and Polk) from 4:30-7. If you're more of a uniony type, Alliance For a Better California is organizing a precinct walk about the special election on Saturday. Meet at 9:30 a.m. at the African-American Art and Cultural Complex at 762 Fulton Street.

You know, over the last year we've gotten a few choice comments about our use of the collective voice. "Trite," "precious," "pretentious," "stupid," "idiotic" -- and while we love us some reader feedback, we're rather set in our ways when it comes to that. It's not like there aren't plenty of other blogs out there. We've even heard that it's really easy to start your own! But thanks to an enterprising Trojan, any complaints......

New time, same channel. The man everyone either loves or loves to hate, Chris Daly, makes a scene on the Muni. The A's and the Giants kicked off the baseball season in fine style. Seems Arnold got the message at his little fundraising dinner on Tuesday. The supes pass......
