It's Back to School Day for the Board of Supervisors
Today was opening day for the Board of Supervisors as it were as today was the first day of work for 2007. First up? The voting in of a new President who happens to be same as the old President-- Aaron Peskin. The vote was unanimous. Said Chris Daly who nominated him: "I think it's important to have someone attuned to the needs not just in his district ... but also in the districts across the city. ... He has led this board as gracefully as it can be done, because it's not an easy task."
The Funeral Procession
SFist Jim Herd just got back from taking a couple of photos of the procession and funeral of slain police officer Bryan Tuvera. SFGate also has great photos of the funeral.
Day Around The Bay
--Google stock hits $509.65/share, making it the second most valuable company in Silicon Valley behind Cisco. Apple also hits a record high.
Day Around The Bay
--Homicides are down about 10% (.pdf, page 4) (76 for the year as opposed to 86 at this time last year). Good! What's the SFPD solve rate on those homicides? [sorry for the .pdf links to the Examiner -- for some reason, none of today's articles are online yet.]
Is Green A Verb?
As we discussed earlier today, PG&E and ReadyMade magazine are co-sponsoring "Let's Green This City," which is aiming to raise environmental consciousness by putting sofas covered with grass around the city. Sure, why not? (Will Ross Mirkarimi be involved? And what's the Bay Guardian's public power-oriented stance on this?)
