Hooray! We're back with more Ed Jew news! And this time, with a vast Sunset-wing conspiracy. Former District 4 supervisor Ed Jew may have pled out of his state court civil suit ("okay, you caught me, I don't actually live here"), but his federal criminal extortion case ("a man can't get a $40,000 bubble tea once in awhile?") continues apace. In his federal case, Ed's now asked for a hearing on whether his former lawyer,......

We were busy at our day job all day today, so we're just now getting to posting something about the crazy red sun this morning! Blamed on the smoke from two wildfires in the area, it was certainly eye-catching. Here's a picture we found in the SFist Flickr stream from the Castro this morning. Picture by crow soup. We'd love to see your pictures too! Tag 'em SFist on Flickr.......

Did you see (video footage) all that smoke (pictures) yesterday? A fire at 17th and Noe Street between the Mission and the Castro at around 6:30 yesterday evening displaced at least 14 people, and sent seven to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One man had to be rescued off the roof. The fire spread to the building next door too, but firefighters managed to put it out before that building was too damaged. The SFFD......

Bless you and may the Lord keep you, SFist readers! Look what turned up in the SFist Flickr stream (tag your pictures too!): a picture of the cursed 666 taxi medallion!!! Thank you, reader gusmacroy! The story's gone national, with a picture of the taxi union leader testifying with devil horns on in the designated "wacky San Franciscans" spot in the national section of the New York Times. As we write, it's the seventh-most-emailed......

Wow, they work fast at BART! When we started this post, there were 30 minute delays to cross the Bay, and by the time we finished, BART updated its reports to announce that they've fixed the issue with the Transbay Tunnel and all trains are moving again. Turns out there was a crack in one of the tracks in the Transbay Tube (we thought the trains were running a little slow this morning!), so......

Remember that couple we told you about that was stealing stuff from open houses? They got busted by the OnStar in their rental Hummer. Police won't reveal where they were, except to say they were "out of state." For those of you still a few SFist obsessions back (before Ed Jew, around the same time as Jennifer Siebel, and after the District 6 election), Gavin Newsom's Fake Question Time neighborhood lecture series is still plodding along. Even the chickens aren't bothering to show up anymore! Anyhow, chickens or no, they've just announced this month's session (.pdf), in Aaron Peskin's District 3, and it's on everyone at SFist's favorite topic -- MUNI! It's......

Well, isn't it interesting that this is happnening right after the Board of Supes votes to leave PG&E and pursue Community Choice Energy? Today, Gavin (Representing the City and County of San Francisco), PG&E, and Golden Gate Energy Company agreed to study harnessing the San Francisco Bay's tides for a greener kind of power. We're talking power that has zero-emmissions and is renewable. The study is slated to last a year and will examine envionmental impact, economic feasibility, and other issues regarding the practicality of harnessing energy from natural, highly predictable tide power....
