But today? It is! Well, there are a few of them, anyway. It all went down in Mountain View, with Anon protesting the IAS (International Association of Scientologists) Anniversary. (CoS seems to have some sort of worldwide birthday or anniversary celebration at least once a month. We're not sure why.)

Anonymous' protests just get more and more exciting. So much so that SFist will start every Monday morning with a weekend protest review. Mind-numbingly brilliant title TK.

Anyway, according to the lads trying to bring down the Church of Scientology with funny masks and regular weekend demonstrations typically held near the church's Montgomery Street branch, one very loud female was assaulted by a CoS member. Or so we're told. A tipster says:

During a protest Saturday night at the Hotel 480 around 10PM, an anonymous protester is grabbed by by the throat and shoved down sloped street towards heavy traffic. by a Scientologist. The protestor breaks away, and someone steps in to protect her. Cops intervene quickly. The same Scientologist later accuses the same anonymous protester of assault despite 5 eye witness accounts and video tape of it. Protester was minor and female.

The footage doesn't show the assault, only the harrowing moments after. An added bonus: Near the end of the video, the cinematographer of this video confronts a CoS member (?) and mentions that his wife was raped by a Xenu admirer. And the church, he says, covered it up. Oh my! Very exciting.

Scenes From An Anonymous Scientology Protest

While most of you were in bed watching America's Test Kitchen or having a light brunch at Dottie's on Saturday, the tenacious Anono...

SF News

anonymous

protesters

Scientology

Brock Keeling

While most of you were in bed watching America's Test Kitchen or having a light brunch at Dottie's on Saturday, the tenacious Anonomyous clan were out in full force doing what they do best: protesting Scientology, amusingly. Ron's Great Grandson To Join CoS Protest This Saturday?">
Since the Scientologists moved the day of celebrating their church's founder, L. Ron Hubbard, from last Saturday to this Saturday, due to last week's protest, there will be yet another rally against the CoS this Saturday. Ta da.

Enturbulation.org has word that this protest will be "at the Hilton [at] 750 Kearny on the corners of Washington and Columbus" at 5 p.m. They'll be meeting on the Washington side iof the hotel near the CoS on Montgomery. (Moving forward, let's just assume there will be a protest at the "Co$" every Saturday.)

Oh, and guess who might show up to the protest? American slam poet, spoken word comedian, and L. Ron's great grandson, Jamie DeWolf. It'll bea star-studded event!

Also, as always, if you go to the protest you are advised to "protect your identity." Which? We don't understand. Unless you have a development deal in the works with Jenna Elfman, we don't see why this is necessary.

Celebrate L. Ron Hubbard's Birthday By Protesting Church of Scientology This Saturday">
Yesterday, it seems, was L. Ron Hubbard's birthday. Hubbard, as most of you know, is the author of the wildly successful Dianetics and founder of the Church of Scientology, a religion in which you achieve higher faith by giving them progressively higher dollar amounts. He would have turned 97 today. Born in Tilden, Nebraska, Hubbard served in World War I, attended George Washington University, was a member of the Explorers Club, and at some point came to the conclusion that purple alien unicorns ruled the Earth many moons ago. Or something like that.

It should come as little surprise that Hubbard was born under a Pisces sun.

Tomorrow, Saturday, there will be another anti-Scientology rally at the Church of Scientology headquarters in San Francisco. The same group responsible for last month's Scientology protest, Anonymous, will serve as hosts to this rally, which is aggressively titled "Operation Party Hard." The festivities commence at 11 a.m. tomorrow at the Church of L.
Torontoist spent its week uncovering who was behind mysterious ads for a drug called "Obay" that popped up across the country (Scientology? Frank Shepard Fairey?), first tracing them to an advocacy group called Colleges Ontario and then confirming their suspicions a few days later.

Bostonist was stunned this week by the news that the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority has been cutting bus and train rides from their schedule to save money. Only they neglected to tell passengers about it.

Phillyist explored an impending implosion and lived to tell the tale.

Gothamist marveled at the city's new NYC-branded condom campaign - especially the use of a Toronto landmark in the advertising. (Also, fun fact: Gothamist turned five years old yesterday.)

Tired of the worldwide Scientology protests? Torontoist totally isn't: they covered the big downtown protest the day it happened, and followed up with an examination of all of the protests' legality, according to hate crime laws, a few days later.

LAist also got into the fray outside the "Anonymous" Scientology protests, netting a killer photo essay and some on-site video of the vociferous crew in their masks.

And would you look at that: SFist covered last Sunday's thetan hatefest too.

According to Seattlest, area travel author Rick Steves and the Washington state ACLU want to talk to you about legalizing pot.

DCist took a good look at the results of the "Potomac Primary" and put together an interactive map that shows the breakdown of exactly why Washington, D.C. is Obama Country.

Speaking of which, Austinist reported on Mayor Will Wynn (heh) endorsing Barack Obama.

Chicagoist continues to be obsessed with all odd Obama accessories,
like these
fly one-of-a-kind, hand-painted kicks.

And in non-Obama/Scientology-free news, Bostonist met with one of the wine world's biggest renegades, Gary Vaynerchuk, host of the Wine Library TV podcast.
