Around 350 people showed up to Lotta's Fountain this morning to commemorate the great earthquake of 1906, which happened at 5:12 a.m. 102 years ago today. 105-year-old Herbert Hamrol was the guest of honor this morning, one of the last quake survivors. He described the 1906 natural disaster as "a beautiful earthquake." Newsom, according to the Gate, called him "spirit of the city" and declared that "[t]here is no greater San Franciscan than Herb."......
