Vulgar, yes, but it will all be half-price come tomorrow. [Nature abhors a vacuum]

  • Ah, 1979…"I Will Survive" topped the charts and Bette Midler gave us "the Rose" (love, it is a river, you know). ESPN came into existence, the kids were into "Captain Caveman," and Muni got a new command center. Some things may have changed and gone away, but some things stay the same. Like Muni’s command center-- it hasn't been updated since those carefree days of Studio 54 and New Wave.

In today's "No Duh" study of the day, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority determined that-- are you sitting down for this?-- a rapid bus system and better public transportation options will increase ridership along Geary Street. The study also determined that puppies are cute, Brooke on "the Real World" is crazy, and the Giants need more offense.

The San Francisco County Transportation Authority unveiled plans recently to help speed up the MUNI bus routes on Van Ness street, part of their Bus Rapid Transit plan. As part of that plan, they are also talking about setting up a system that will let actual riders get actual times of actual buses arriving at actual bus stops. Now how about that?

Hey, did you know that the San Francisco County Transportation Authority is thinking about speeding up transit on Van Ness by putting in dedicated bus boulevards? BUT WAIT DON'T CLICK ON THAT LINK IT MIGHT CRASH YOUR BROWSER! The SFCTA, in their wisdom, has placed two JPEGs on their page about the proposed Van Ness corridor; one is a picture of how the dedicated lanes might look (pretty), and the other is a mock-up of how the MUNI map might be changed (acceptably), and each image is a bone-crushing TWO MEGS. The map alone is 6344 by 4843 pixels -- several orders of magnitude greater than an average monitor is capable of displaying -- and was more than enough to completely crash our modest laptop. Great work, SFCTA.
