In an effort to preserve nature for the public, the California State Parks Foundation has just produced 40 short podcasts about some of California's favorite state park hiking trails. Each episode, complete with ambient sound, is narrated by a different CSPF member or state park fan, sharing his or her story about their favorite trail. A few notables revealing on which hiking trail they like hike, bike and stroll are TV hosts Huell Howser and Doug McConnell, and former Van Halen frontman and Tres Agaves owner Sammy Hagar.

Might As Well Jump Drive to San Jose or Sac-Town: Van Halen's Coming
Van Halen held a press conference today to unveil specifics of the band's upcoming national tour. This is the first time in 22 years that "Diamond" David Lee Roth will be performing on such a tour with the band. The tour starts in September, but won't won't be anywhere close to San Francisco until November, so crossing our fingers that, um, Roth will still be with the band at that point.

The Chron today has an interesting story about all the effects of recent laws being thrown on small business, mainly restaurants. The recent laws in question are the rise in the minimum wage, sick paid leave, and the new health care initiative. All these laws sound great, but restaurateurs are not quite thrilled about them and so they've been particularly aggressive in fighting the resolutions, even getting in Chris Daly's grill about it. Ha! We made a pun. Anyways, they've sued over the health care bill to keep it from taking effect.

We have to admit that we don't like golf. More like hate everything about it. We also have to admit that we hate hype and whenever hype surrounds something that hasn't been proven to amount to anything yet. Which means Michelle Wie fits into the category of things you don't even want to get us started on.
Still Going for the Gold
Is everyone sitting down? And yes we realize that's a stupid question considering that you're all reading this at the computer so of course you're sitting down, but run with it. Anyways, we have some big, big news to relate to you: SF has been chosen to represent the U.S. for the 2016 Olympics! Or at least, that's what all the headlines say. The reality is that we're merely still in the running along with LA and Chicago as Houston and Philadelphia were dropped from consideration. Wah...wah...sucks to be you.
