As Kamiya writes (and as you might have noticed), the city's paper of record is, "so obsessed with the Occupy San Francisco movement's illegal encampment, its effects on local businesses and the unruliness of some of its members that they have failed to grasp its historic significance."

Perhaps unsurprisingly, at the center of the paper's problematic ambivalence is the Chronicle's premier authority on fecal matter in the city: C.W. Nevius, whose columns last week went from calling the encampment on Justin Herman Plaza a sanitation nightmare that needed to be cleared immediately, to claiming those reports were exaggerated, in the wake of the Occupy Oakland incident.

The bottom line? "[T]he prissy preachiness of the Chronicle’s punditry, in the guise of 'civic concern,' has led them to end up taking the Chamber of Commerce’s side on a crucial issue that goes to the heart of San Francisco’s identity."

Grab a nice cup of coffee and read the whole thing here.

In an effort to become "more of a true Web publication," the AP English class of the interwebs, Salon.com, laid off six editorial staff members.
Cavenia Bryant and Jamillya Edgerton, the two waste-of-space human beings who videotaped themselves brutally attacking an Oakland hair salon owner, then bragged about it on-air to radio station KMEL -- were in court today. It seems the victim, according to ABC 7's Dan Noyes, "is questioning why the Alameda County District Attorney's office has decided to file only misdemeanor battery and false imprisonment charges against suspects." The ladies, awe we use that term loosely, should have seen some sort of felony assault charges.

Even ABC7 agrees.

ABC7 Legal Analyst Dean Johnson agrees with Seals. After watching the video this morning, Johnson says if he were the prosecutor, the charges would have been felony assault, false imprisonment and conspiracy. Johnson cites the prolonged attack, the number of blows and the kicks to the head.

FILM: During a time in which the military is desperate for new recruits, unless you're openly gay, Ask Not exposes the tangled political battles that led to the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy and examines the societal shifts that have occurred since its 1993 passage. Current and veteran gay soldiers reveal how the policy has affected them during their tours of duty as they struggle to maintain a double life, uncertain of whom they can trust.

"The orchestra leads a journey through sweet dreams and nightmares, from the lighter tones of Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik and Borodin’s Nocturne to the terror of Bernard Herrmann’s gripping Psycho Suite. The pinnacle of the evening is Mats Lidstrom’s string orchestra arrangement of the overture to Strauss’s Die Fledermaus, a hilarious opera of love and revenge."
