Yeah, we know, we're stuck here at SFist fetishizing weirdo wonks like Gavin Newsom and Ross Mirkarimi because we don't have any actual celebrities in town that we can follow around and talk about. Well, it's not always true! Drew Altizer sends along some pictures he took at the GlobalGreen USA fundraiser benefit ("Gorgeous and Green: An Ecofabulous Party"), whose board has enough celebrities that they were willing to fly a couple of them up for the night to dazzle us in this here little small town.

No new premieres tonight, so let us take this opportunity to speak of a series we weren't able to get to last week: "Ugly Betty." As you might have heard by now, it's based on a very popular telenovela, and produced by Salma Hayek, no stranger to telenovelas herself. We watched the pilot, and like most viewers, we were pretty much enchanted. The show has a weird power. It's a little too goofy, a little too silly, and a little too cheesy, but somehow when you put it all together, it works.

Being part of the Award Winning SFist news desk, we suppose we should say something about the NFL draft tomorrow. So we started up with the researching and decided we were so sick about hearing about the thing that we just couldn't take it anymore. Somewhere along the umpteenth story along the lines of "Reggie Bush Sneezes at Combine-- Could Cost Him Five Spots on the NFL Draft!" or "Does Leinart Rooming With Nick Lachey Show He Is a Good Decision Maker?" we decided to beg off. We mean, both ESPN and CNNSI had lead stories recently about a player dropping positions on their Mock Draft. And we're talking big, headline grabbing, front stories about, say, Vince Young going from #3 to #10. ON A MOCK DRAFT. It's like us writing this big, huge, posting saying that we're leaning towards going to a party over the weekend with Natalie Portman instead of Salma Hayek. Yes, there's probably (probably) more of a chance that Young really could be drafted late in the draft than us having a date with either actress, but, and not to get too Buddhist here, both are based on the exact same level of real-ness. Which is none.

Sneaking in at the very end of Cinco de Mayo, we want to remind you about the Mexican Museum. It's their 30th anniversary this year and they're also gearing up to begin construction on a new, permanent, fancy home in Yerba Buena. Much of their current fundraising goes towards their capital campaign for this new building and they're approaching the $34 they'll need.
