In all honesty, we didn't care who won or lost last night, but towards the end of the game, we found ourselves rooting for the Bears mainly because we started feeling bad for Rex Grossman. He was playing such an awful game that we took pity on him. You know how in all the sports movies, there's always that dorky, unathletic kid who that nobody wants on their team but they always wind up being the hero? That was Rex. Bonds signing, Day 2... While the players are psyched and according to the Chron, Giant's fans are too, Bruce Jenkins is not. He, in fact, drops in to rip the deal, calling the front office "gutless," says the season is already over, wishes the team were more like the Dodgers, and thinks the Giants are basically nothing but a freak show right now. Jenkins must have powered the energy haterade as he cranks out two columns and makes Eve's day by posting on the blog too. The Betting Fool, however, gets all misty when comparing Bonds to the late Jose Uribe and let's his readers rip the deal. Meanwhile, Tim Liotta of the Ex sees gray people. more ›

So how did the Giants' hiring of Bruce Bochy go over with Giants fans? Well, does the word "meh" mean anything to you. It's not that people were upset (well, some people were) but most people just kind of gave it a shrug and said that it's not such a bad pick. Kind of like when you go out looking for a used car to buy and you dream of a sports car or a hybrid and you wind up doing what everyone else does-- buy a Honda. The Chronicle's Matier & Ross say that gleefully impudent Chron sports columnist Ray Ratto's incisive piece about the team's lack of movement on the stadium put the spurs to the Niners making the conciliatory announcement that they have A Plan and that they are putting a lot of work into The Plan. Miller, who has been covering football for the Sporting Green for twenty-nine years, is retiring (bought out in a cost-cutting move).
