Giants outfielder Andres Torres displayed his brute man-strength on Friday, when he expressed his frustration following a strikeout against the A's by snapping his bat across his knee like so many brittle twigs.

The notoriously genial Torres is fond of this method of anger management, having done the same thing as recently as March 10th, when he struck out with the bases loaded in a Giants victory over the Rangers.

Torres is a strong dude, even for a professional. Let's not forget this choice moment from Showtime's 'The Franchise', which shows Torres--in a pair of very hard-working jorts--getting into shape for the 2011 season by tossing cinder blocks over his head with the greatest of ease.

California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom is learning what we've known for eons — namely, not having access to the Jetty sucks. On an airport tarmac somewhere last night, Newsom was none too thrilled that United Airlines kept him waiting. The former San Francisco mayor, who was returning home from filming an episode of This Week With George Stephanopoulos, fumed: "Inexcusable @united waiting for over an hour in seat for 'catering'-after almost 2hrs in seat waiting for mech fix & changing plane...you now have us in seats on tarmac approaching 2 hrs (second time) -I'll forgive the 5.5 hour delay-this time it's 'weights'!"

He's right. United sucks. We hope the Lieutenant Governor's next flight proves relaxing and free of fuss and/or muss.

The New York Times reports that very rich California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman became a wee bit too forceful and angry with an eBay employee in 2007 who failed to prepare her for an interview with Reuters on that virtual life thingy, Second Life.

"The employee, Young Mi Kim, was preparing Ms. Whitman for a news media interview that day," the Gray Lady notes. "Ms. Kim, who was not injured in the incident, hired a lawyer and threatened a lawsuit, but the dispute was resolved under the supervision of a private mediator."

And how much did this unprofessional shove cost Meg? Somewhere around $200,000.

Kim, we should point out, still works at eBay as a senior manager for corporate and executive communications.

Local online types suffered violent fits of uncontrolled hysteria this week after SFGate proudly and justly declared SoCha a new boutique neighborhood south of Cesar Chavez.. (For those of you who patriotically refuse to recognize Cesar Chavez, we give you "SoArm" for South of Army Street.)

On SFist's post regarding the new real estate-friendly abbreviation, commenter w05 had to be talked down from the ledge and physically restrained after writing, "Repeat after me: It's La Lengua. Moved by Burrito Justice. Seconded by Mission Mission and Mission Local. Inscribed on Wikimapia. Codified by SF Everyblock. It's bad enough that the Chronicle is out of touch. We don't need SFist spreading falsehoods."

Fiddlesticks, sir.

While we have nothing but admiration for fellow bloggers Burrito Justice and Mission Mission, we have one thing to say about La Lengua: too ethnic. La Lengua, you see, means tongue en Español, which is fitting since it mirrors the shape of the not-so fancy neighborhood in question. However, it doesn't have the wow factor of, say, NOPA or SOMISSPO.

Fortunately, eddo_likes_you of the ethnically named Herra Chinky (a fantastic read, we should point out) has come up with fresh batch of new neighborhood names certain to anger transplants and locals alike. They are:

  • FerBu (Ferry Building)
  • Castr8teenth (Castro 18th)
  • MissCapCha (Mission Capp Chavez)

The spectrum of coke rage runs wide. It can go from harmless rolling of the eyes and a sigh to unnecessary shouting to Lindsay Lohan. For some, it goes much further.

Take, for example, tenacious Juanita Marie Jones, 53, of Rochelle, GA. After receiving fake cocaine -- and, oh Jesus, the frenzy of mixed emotions one feels after buying bunk junk -- she went to the police in an effort to get her money back.

It seems that she wanted Wilcox County officers to arrest the independent retailers who sold her the stuff. Naturally, Jones was the one who got arrested on the spot...after inviting police officers over to her pad to inspect the counterfeit party favor.

Better luck next time, Juanita.
