Oh is it a voting day or something? It totally sneaked up on us! It still feels like Monday today. Actually it also feels like October. Anyway, you should probably vote yes on A and no on H, because that's what everyone else is doing. Prop A will protect The Mt Soledad National War Memorial and do something to the air force? and will transform some colleges. Also, Aristotle endorsed it it. Proposition H......

Tenant Relief Not to be confused with the popular hemhorroid remedy, Proposition H, if passed, would increase the amount of money landlords pay evicted tenants forced out by condo conversions, planned demolitions and everyone's favorite, the OMI (owner move-in, though OMI sounds like an abbreviation for something equally unpleasant and embarrassing as hemhorroids). Additional money would go to elderly and disabled tenants and tenants with children. Tonight, the Housing Rights Committee hosts an Evening......

image668069x.jpg Funny, we've never heard of the NRA endorsing a waiting period before. San Francisco and the NRA have agreed that the city will voluntarily delay enforcement of Proposition H for two months to allow the NRA to challenge the law in court. The NRA in exchange agreed not to move for a restraining order before the trial court (after getting tossed from the appeals court), which could have delayed enforcement for a much longer time. Instead, everyone's just going to fight it out in court, with a hearing scheduled on February 15, 2006. The main effect of this agreement is that High Bridge Arms, the only gun dealer in San Francisco, doesn't have to stop selling guns by this Sunday, which is when Prop H was to go into effect. (The article also says two private dealers in the city can continue to sell guns too, but doesn't say who they are.) The other portion of the law, requiring everyone to turn in their weaponry, doesn't go into effect until April 1, 2006 anyways, at which point the legal case should probably be decided one way or the other. Picture of High Bridge Arms from CBS News...

charlton-heston-nra.jpg Good ol' Chris Daly -- in an interview with the NY Times about Proposition H (reduces swelling), he said about the anti-H forces, "I'm crazy, but they're crazier." (Special bonus quote from the article: Daly is described as "a self-described far-left progressive." Yes he is!) Well, Daly may or may not be proven right as the NRA rumbles into town, so upset about the 58% yes on H vote that they filed suit directly in the state appellate court. Why don't they have to go through the Superior Court like everyone else, huh? They shoot their way in or something? Prop. H prohibits any SF resident from owning a handgun, and will require that everyone turn in their guns by April 1, 2006. Second Amendment advocates are claiming that the law makes us unsafer, would require cops to go gun-free, and would prohibit people from using guns in opera productions. Daly says police are exempt and operas and school plays can just use toy guns. Dennis Herrera, fresh from his 98% victory (almost as popular as Saddam Hussein!), says he's confident the city as a local municipality can regulate guns however it wants. ...
