Hop on BART and head to Oakland this June for the agency’s all-ages ‘80s meets under-the-sea themed dance party, which will be held in the Rockridge Station parking lot.

After the popularity of Bay Area Rapid Transit’s May the 4th and Valentine’s Day events, which typically sell out the same day tickets go on sale, the agency just announced it’s transforming the Rockridge Station parking lot on June 6 into BART Prom: Enchantment Under the C Line, an all-ages 1980s-themed dance party with under-the-sea flair.

“BART Prom is a playful way to celebrate transit as a community space. Events like this tap into the joy and connection that public transit can create,” Michelle Robertson, BART’s principal marketing representative, told the Chronicle. “Our events generate enthusiasm for the system, build ridership and encourage people to ride for fun, all while reminding our community that BART is more than a commute — it’s part of the cultural life of the Bay Area.”

The event will feature a live band and DJ, as well as a BART prom court, which will be crowned during the event. For a chance to be on the court and win your very own BART-themed crown, post your BART “promposal” on social media and tag the agency by May 31.

Three finalists will be selected, and the public will pick a winner via Instagram. So keep an eye out for various fun and creative promposals in the coming month.

The event page says BART chose the 1980s theme because the decade was a pinnacle time for the agency — when ridership numbers were high, service was expanded, and the original train cars were still new.

Attendees are asked to wear themed prom attire that’s under-the-sea, 1980s, or any era — as long as it's appropriate for all age groups.

The $15 entry fee includes unlimited punch, a BART boutonniere or corsage, and a printed prom photo keepsake.

Check out those San Quentin prisoners styled out in tuxedos for the prison’s first father-daughter prom, where daughters in ballgowns visited their fathers for a red-carpet affair that in many cases was their first contact in years.

There has long been an effort to clean up and reform San Quentin State Prison, and make it into what Governor Gavin Newsom called a “healing environment." To that end, the facility has changed its name to the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, and according to NBC Bay Area, it even had a three-day Pride Weekend celebration last week. Now KTVU has the news that San Quentin also hosted a father-daughter “Parent Prom,” literally rolling out a red carpet at the prison’s chapel, and providing prisoners with tuxedos, bringing in their daughters in ballgowns, and allowing some of these prisoners to see their daughters for the first time in years.

This event actually happened three months ago, on April 5, as Bay City News reported at the time. And the costs were not covered by the prison or with taxpayer dollars. Oakland-area hairstylists and dress/tuxedo shops donated their time and materials, prisoner advocacy groups Friends of the People in Blue and The Last Mile raised private funds for the daughters’ travel, Got Light designed the prom’s dance floor and interiors, and Oakland bakery Angel Cakes provided refreshements. The prom was organized by current prisoner Tam Nguyen, as the culmination of a family communication project he’s been spearheading for most of this year.

"I recognized that the majority of these people that came to prison, that committed crimes, also came from a dysfunctional home," Nguyen told KPIX. "A lot of the incarcerated people come from underserved communities, single-parent households."

And there were certainly tearjerker moments. The above video shows one father and daughter seeing each other outside of a visitation room capacity for the first time. “Tommy has spent nearly two decades inside San Quentin State Prison. For 19 years, he’s only seen his daughter in visitation rooms. But last night, everything changed," the God Behind Bars program said on Instagram. "For one sacred evening, prison walls faded away. Tommy held his daughter, not in chains, not through glass—but in his arms. They wept. She clung to him. Time stood still."

There is also the very bittersweet angle that one of the daughters was killed in a head-on traffic collision just months after the event, leaving the Parent Prom as the final memory of his daughter for prisoner Steven Embrey. "I’m so happy I participated in the prom and I got to see her. She was so beautiful that day. I have so many beautiful memories," Embrey told Bay City News after learning of her passing.

Prom proposals are all the rage this year, and one teen from Los Gatos, California managed to enlist the help of Walter White to woo/threaten one special lady.

Stefan Montana, 17, managed to flag down Cranston outside the Neil Simon Theatre in New York last month, where the former Malcom in the Middle star can be seen as L.B.J. in All the Way on Broadway. Montana, who has a passion for the stage and hopes to study theater arts in college, looked absolutely ecstatic as he asked out his crush Maddie Abene via a selfie video on Instagram. The high schooler even refrained from any potentially awkward Jesse Pinkman references as Cranston told Maddie, "if you don't go to the prom with Stefan, than maybe your best course of action would be to... tread lightly."

Despite Mr. White's threatening demeanor, Maddie said yes. And Cranston, being the nicest guy in showbiz at the moment, actually paid to fly both teens (and their moms) back to New York City two weeks ago to meet the cast of All the Way and check out a couple more Broadway shows.

“I don’t think there’s any saying no to Walter White," Montana told ABC. "And if she did say no...”

“You’d kill me!” Abene said, although it was unclear if that was teenage drama or a Breaking Bad joke. “It was a threat — a kind threat.”

Not every girl can pull off making her own to-die-for prom dress from scratch, à la Molly Ringwald, but luckily the Bay Area has a group of modern-day fairy godmothers at their service. Year after year, The Princess Project has been equipping hundreds of California teens with lovely prom dresses and accessories for free.

The Princess Project has been having dress giveaways during the month of March, and the last one is this Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 901 Market Street. All high school girls who are in financial need are encouraged to attend. No proof is required, just a valid high school ID.

Be sure to get there early! Girls start lining up at 7a.m.

We never had the chance to attend the prom during our halcyon high school days, but wish we had. It turns out, if the post-prom festivities at at the Marriot Hotel on South Amphlett Blvd. are any indication, it's quite the exciting event. See, early Sunday morning, police responded to several reports of multiple stabbings at the San Mateo hotel that hosted the prom and several prom parties. "When police arrived at the hotel’s parking lot, they discovered four males, between 16 and 19- years-old, all with stab wounds."

None of the injuries were life-threatening.

It is believed that the four prom attendees all knew each other and went stab-happy following an altercation. But? Their bloody mischief wasn't about to dampen spirits. Cole Weber, 16, told KTVU, "We thought we were going to have a lot of fun, but it kind of killed the mood a little bit." No kidding. And 18-years-old Trey Franco kept his sights on the silver lining, declaring, "We weren’t going to let it stop us, though. I mean, it's my senior prom, so we weren't going to let it stop us. We were just going to have fun and keep going with our night. Try not to think about it, have fun."

Because being a native San Franciscan isn't adorably dorky in and of itself, Mission Mission first broke news that Mission High School students held a "green prom" over the weekend, complete with environmentally-friendly trimmings.

Held last Friday at the Golden Gate Club, which is a waste-free venue, the school's prom was made with recycled or green-y materials, including the decor, cups, plates, tiaras, and music equipment.

Even a constantly-pedaled bike was used to power the DJs equipment, which was provided by Environmental Service Learning Initiative.

Sure beats the OC prom your SFist editor didn't go to at the Ritz-Carlton many moons ago, where at least two girls were gang-raped with roofies. (Though we bet Mission High School students' date-rape drugs were organic, kava kava-infused concoctions. Genius.)

Prom season is in the air. And you know what that means, right? Tacky dresses, hymens smashed, newborns dumpstered, and fretting dads. Take, for example, a Union City father who fired off a few rounds after getting into an argument with his daughter on Monday, "two days after the James Logan High School dance when his daughter came home late." After freaking out over her being late, and presumably her dirty pillows, Rufus Pucket fired his gun while his wife was trying to protect the daughter. Pucket surrendered to the fuzz "after hiding in the garage when the girl called 911."

Gay mafia don, Marke B., has word that the Powerblouse (TM 71Miles) is hosting a prom night for all of you homosexuals who weren't able to attend your senior prom. The theme is "Leather & Lace." Steamy.

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, we should mention, are hosting this night under to remember. Proceeds from the night go to raise funds to fight the proposed butterfly-killing spray that will soon blanket San Francisco, or whatever it is that people are currently wringing their hands hysterically.

Anyway, it will be a fun night of getting dolled up, getting smashed, and avoiding/trespassing the Powerhouse's notorious back room. Dress to the nines and strap on your boot flasks, kids. See you at the prom.

I just dug the picture out of it's place and according to my notes I picked it up on August 21, 1996 somewhere around 8th and Howard. The inscription on the back says, in old looping cursive, "St. Francis Hotel - Mark (illegible last name) & Tracey _______ - Senior Prom - May 5th, 1978." I wish Tracey was in the picture, I'm sure her dress was the bomb.
