Day Around The Bay

Day Around The Bay

--Gavin Newsom had another Project Homeless Connect event. Reader Elihuh2001 sends along this picture, along with the note that Gavin refused the free coffee provided, in favor of a more corporate flair. more ›

Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Holy Crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So earlier today, we heard that Alex Tourk resigned as Gavin's campaign manager. It was a bit curious, a bit odd, but these things happen, although whenever somebody mentions that they are leaving for "personal reasons" the mind does tend to go to certain places. But no matter where your mind wandered, we have a feeling it didn't wander as far as what really happened because the Chron is reporting that Tourk quit mainly because Gavin had an affair with Tourk's wife, Ruby Rippey-Tourk. Rippey-Tourk (and woah, what a name) was Gavin's appointments secretary at the time. more ›

Political Junkie: Thin Veneer Of Something

Political Junkie: Thin Veneer Of Something

Sulky, sulky -- Gavin Newsom was sober and mad after yesterday's Board of Supervisors inaugural ceremony, which the Chronicle tactfully described as having a "tone of political contentiousness running just beneath a veneer of polite ceremony." more ›

SFist Book Report: The Chron's Homelessness Series

Political Junkie: Hair Of The Mayor That Bit You

BREAKING NEWS..... BREAKING NEWS.... MAYOR HAS RETURNED TO GEL STOP. HAIR HAS RESUMED PREVIOUS CONFIGURATION STOP. [yes, we know, the stop means period, so there is technically no need to put a period after it -- but it's hard to read like that is all. We're just thinking about your reading comfort!] more ›

Gavin Gets Dirty For Project Homeless Connect

Yes, that's our fair mayor washing the feet of a constituent at yesterday's Project Homeless Connect outreach event. Hundreds of volunteers and the homeless they aim to help were on hand to provide medical, counseling and housing services. The San Francisco Sentinel has more coverage up today on their homepage with great pictures from Luke Thomas. As tipster Kimo pointed out, "Whatever you think of Gavin – nice symbolism – I can’t imagine Brown in the same pose." Of course, what we're thinking is: "That hair is unstoppable!" more ›

CCA To Feed The Homeless

In a press release from the California Culinary Academy we received today, the executive chefs and students at the CCA will be serving 1,000 lunches to the local homeless at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium tomorrow as part of Gavin's Project Homeless Connect, which strives to bring city services and volunteers directly to the local homeless population. From the release: more ›

Gavin Gettin' Jiggy With It

When the Guardian did their piece on the "New Bay," as coined by the EA-Ski-produced Frontline, maybe they didn't quite get it right. Does "New Bay" refer to a resurgence in local hip-hoppers getting record label contracts, or is that "New Bay" an allusion to G-New, AKA Da Mayor? more ›
