Potrero Hill Plays Host to Three Shootings

Early this morning and late last night, according to Appeal/BCN, three people were shot in Potrero HIll. First, at 11 p.m. around the 23rd and Arkansas area, a man was shot. He is expected to survive. Then, on the 1800 block of 26th Street, a man and woman were plugged at around 3 a.m. Yikes! Fortunately, both are expected to survive. No arrests in either case have been made. Anyone from the area hear or know what went down?

Flickr photog Erik Gibb managed to snap these super pics of Sunday's Portreo Hill porta-potty immolation, which brought the number of blazes to 23 since November. If we're not mistaken, these are the first images of the Toilet Torcher's criminal activity in progress. Fortunately, the rain prevented the fire from igniting the trees along the sidewalk. this could have been much worse.

Yesterday at around 3 p.m., four suspects entered a home in the 700 block of Missouri Street, kidnapped an unidentified victim inside the residence, drove said victim to the bank, and demanded money. The victim "happened to see a police officer and alerted him of the robbery in progress," effectively getting his two captors arrested. Kudos! Two suspects, however, are still on the lam.

The bodies of the two unidentified thirtysomethings were found by a roommate on Monday, over at 215 Missouri Street. According to homicide detectives, both victims were shot. Not much detail has been released yet. We'll update as soon as we know more. But do you know something? Let us know in the comments. (SFGate)

Holy second-hand smokes! An astounding five people were shot in San Francisco's Potrero Hill neighborhood last night. According to the Merc (via Bay City News), the fuzz found five people suffering from gunshot wounds over on the 800 block of Missouri Street, right next to the Potrero Hill Recreation Center. This happened at around 10:30 p.m.last night. Apparently, someone came up to the group and started shooting. Jesus. Anyway, all of the victims are expected to live. And it goes without saying, but no arrests have been made.

Over in Potrero Hill, a 40-year-old man was shot to death while while driving a van, according to San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens. The crime happened around Turner Terrace. CBS 5 (via Bay City News) goes on to say that SFPD officers "found a lone occupant suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds...[he] had crashed into the dead end of the street."

At first, we thought this was a bunch of art students or gamesters when we saw people setting up cones and bowling balls on a steep hill. Sidewalk bowling?

It turns out that the man who was brutally gunned down in the Mission on Monday night recently ditched a witness protection program. Justin Lee, 40 - who was shot to death after being chased down on 26th and Mission Streets - just left the security of a safe house in another part of the state on the same day. Yikes.

-- Crime in Choir: CIC rocks it. Hard. For reals. Big time. One of the purest sounds coming out of SF these days, really. Brave the chill and head down to Potrero Hill to check them out. You won't regret it. Pink Mountain and Science of Yarba open at this anniversary party for Frenetic Records. The music starts at 10 p.m. at Bottom of the Hill; $10.

Today, we hear about the glories of body waxing, spreading cheeks, and holding your package over at Potrero Hill-based Lonni's Punani (you heard us...Lonni's Punani.) Just try listening to it without fainting. [NSFW]

Hey, wouldn't it be neat if you could sign up for a weekly email newsletter that let you know when Muni closures would be happening? Well you CAN! If you're a member of the press. Towards the end of every week, Muni sends out an email to reporters about weekend traffic and transit disruptions. It's kind of like Muni's own little guide to what's happening around town, and what's fun to do if you find yourself bored on Saturday and Sunday. Though none of the events are actually Muni-endorsed, their event guide is among the handiest in town.

For the two or three of you out there who might be driving through the Sunnyside this afternoon/evening, be sure to avoid the intersection of Congo and Mangels. It looks like this truck is going to be there for a while. Oops.

In a city as spectacularly hilly as San Francisco, 20th St. in Potrero Hill may well be the finest roller coaster ride on offer. Of course, the speed limit is only 25 mph (as it should be through a neighborhood), so you’ll have to resist the temptation to get on your bad motor scooter and go roaring up and down 20th’s undulations all Evel Knievel-style. Aside from Potrero’s most obvious geologic property – it’s a real tall hill! – what’s most striking is how self-contained it is. (All that’s missing is an old-timey single screen theater, and anyway, who wants the hassle of having to clean spilled soda and Junior Mints anymore?) It may lack the restaurants strung along 18th St. down the hill, but 20th St. between Missouri and Connecticut speaks to Potrero Hill’s autonomy as well as any block in this eminently pleasant neighborhood.

Hey, we're back from vacation! And we just missed the 5-foot sinkhole that opened up on California Street between 6th and 7th Avenues for New Year's Eve. Does anyone have pictures?

Four pedestrians were held up at gunpoint in Portrero Hill of all places Monday night. Police say they think the crimes were all related.

There was a sewage spill on Ocean Beach last night. Wasn't Daniela Kirschenbaum just talking about this? A manhole cover blew out around 11 p.m., which allowed not only water but what we'll delicately call "SFSOS effluvia" to leak onto the beach. The affected area is about 150 feet of the beach, from the base of the Cliff House going west.

We get a lot of e-mails about various events for good causes and most of them we'll list in our events posts but some of them, the one's that look really fun, we'll do a big post on. This one is definately deserving of a big post-- Dine Around. The basic gist of which is that if you eat at a selected restaurants in the Castro, Noe Valley, Mission, Potrero Hill, and Soma-- in other words, prime eating areas-- Wednesday night, money will be raised for the Aids Emergency Fund (AEF) and the Breast Cancer Emergency Fund (BCEF). And there's some great restaurants listed too like Foreign Cinema and la Mediterranee and Firefly and, well, just check out the list yourself. A raffle will also be held to help raise money. How could this not be a great thing as for the most part, all you need to do to support something is eat. We like eating.

When does the RCV count begin -- in the District 6 election! And as promised earlier, this week's episode is indeed titled: Everybody Hates The Wait.

Have you guys been to the UPS pickup office in Potrero Hill by 280? They have all these huge banners in the lobby that say "We Have Been An Accident-Free Work Zone for 10,000 Days," or something to that effect. As we while away our life waiting in line (only to find that the package we're waiting for is "still on the truck," but that's a separate post for a separate day), we amuse ourselves by idly speculating, what do you think the last accident was? And isn't that a lot of pressure to put on everyone not to get injured today, which would then necessitate the removal of all those signs?
