While walking along Post Street this morning, we came across the above "mysterious" sign at Taylor Street and wondered where the film shoot was. Then we happened to turn down Mason and encountered the film crew at Geary and Mason, as an SFist tipster noted earlier. The set-up was all still there on our walk back home this evening. We're guessing it was for a commercial of some sort. They filmed a Quaker Oats......

-- Trannyshack's Siouxsie and the Banshees Night: Trannyshack icon and Scissor Sisters [NSFW] star Ana Matronic returns home to help Heklina host tonight's Siouxsie tribute. Also, we heard a rumor that Ana likes to watch live Broadway musical clips on YouTube. (i.e., str8-gay hipster suicide.) Is this true? We don't believe it. But if she does, she just landed herself a new stalker. Music starts at 10 p.m. and the show begins at midnight......

Special treat this week, kids: a review. Oh, yeah, and the usual previews too. Passing Strange at Berekley Repertory Theatre The best theater experiences happen when you go in not knowing what to expect, and then the show blows you away. If you agree, then stop reading right now and buy tickets to Passing Strange before it heads to New York. If you need more convincing--or just love your Stage Fog--read on. Now, we......

Vote no on C -- stop Wednesday's power grab! Today: Who knew they had events at the Apple store downtown? We picked up a flyer when we were (unsuccessfully) trying to get our iPod fixed. Today at 4, Todd Corleto demonstrates two-factor authentication with CRYPTOCard, and for those of you who still can't figure out how to use iTunes, there's a workshop about it at 5. The Apple Store's at One Stockton Street. Thursday: New......

Gecko3.jpgDon't hate Wednesday because she's beautiful. Tonight: The Theatre of Yugen presents an evening of geckos and moonlight by Czech-Japanese Butoh dancer Ryuzo Fukuhara. Butoh is a type of modern dance that originated in post-WWII Japan, and "it is a departure from expression bounding towards transformation. Butoh is a state of being present, hanging between light and darkness; it is dance that thrives on change." We're not entirely sure what that means, but it sounds cool. $15, 8 p.m., at NOHspace, at 2840 Mariposa between Florida and Alabama. Thursday: We really need to work ourselves up into a true SFist Rants frenzy about Chronicle columnist Jane Ganahl, who's just not one bit unhappy about being middle-aged and single, oh no oh no! Ganahl another other contributors will be reading from the new book she edited, called "Single Women of a Certain Age," about -- you guessed it -- being middle-aged and single. We hope there's no self-loathing involved. $7, 6 p.m., at the Mechanics' Institute Library (57 Post Street, near Market). and Friday: The jug of water, the microphone, the three-legged stool ...who doesn't love a poetry slam? Youth Speaks kicks off the San Francisco preliminary rounds of the 10th Annual Youth Poetry Slam tonight at Galeria de la Raza. 7 p.m., 2857 24th Street (between Mission and Valencia), $6. Picture of Ryuzo Fukuhara by Dana Jesswein ...

If you're like us, you're doing a lot of your holiday shopping today and tomorrow. God! Why do we do this to ourselves? We're freakin' hungover from too much "holiday cheer", and with the frantic shopping thing on top of it, we're ready to break down crying. Lotta Jansdotter is the sweet soothing balm on our holiday inflamation. Shopping her beautifully simple site, or, better yet, going to her store on 864 Post Street......

Save some room on your social calendar, because like 2005, these cool shows are expiring around January 1. Besides, if you’re feeling a little Grinch-like, there’s nothing like a holiday show to get you in a festive mood....

We've been looking forward to the opening of a Bay Area H&M like it's the damn Rapture or something, especially since it seems like they're everywhere else in the country already. If we were a lesser person, we might be pissed that the West Coast is so far down their list (below Cleveland?), but our desire for trendy, disposable, and only somewhat ethically horrifying (hey, Gap makes Erling Persson look like Oscar Schindler) fashion......

Did you know there are craptards out there willing to lay down hundreds dollars for a watch? Apparantly it's true. We just got an invitation to "an evening of watches and Patrón margaritas" -- good Lord, is there any bigger waste of a tequila-buzz than standing around looking at wristpieces all night? It's a clever plan: they bring you in, loosen you up with booze, and then sidle up next to you with some......

Special, "Why does all the good stuff happen when we'll be out of town?" edition. We already mentioned this in our interview with Craig Newmark, but the cool kids (read: blog nerds) will be at the Citizen Journalism meet-and-greet at the Varnish Gallery at six and then yukking it up with the Onion at the 12 Galaxies at ten. If that doesn't interest you, head down to the Winchester Mystery House and a take......
