SFist has received scores of emails and a few comments today, Cathy-ing about the lack of ballots and alleged chaos at certain polling stations.

" stickers are on the front page of cnn.com! So are you proudly sporting a red sticker? How was your voting experience this beautiful primary Super Duper Wowie Zowie Tuesday? Any good stories to pass along?

The typically chatty Gavin Newsom spoke for less than 15 minutes last night, declaring a mayoral victory at last night's party at the Ferry Building. He stood alongside his father and gal-pal Jennifer Siebel (who presumably had to be talked out performing a stirring act-II-opening rendition of "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," which, really, would have been rad.) According to the Chronicle he said, "To my critics, this is an opportunity, and in some...

From your SFist editor's district supervisor's blog: A day before the polls open, local reporters already started writing their Election winners and losers stories. While I won’t make any big predictions, I am confident in calling this season the biggest win for me… Saturday morning at 5:51, Grace Eolen blessed us with her arrival. Sarah had a brief but exciting labor and mother, baby, and proud big brother are doing great. Oh wow, she's...

The kids over at Curbed SF have the word on one polling place that's also an open house. Gross. Over in the enchanted Excelsior District, early morning voters have also been getting the hardcore sales pitch for a 6BR polling station that's going for $888,888. Not a bad price, btw, but still. Anyway, check it: "Went to vote this morning at 900 Persia Street in the lovely Excelsior District. Not only is it a...

Here's todays sports stories

After last week's dueling press conferences and memo-leakage, the Homeless issue is becoming the Issue du Jour, leading to a full-fledged reporter dogpile. First came CW Nevius who weighed in with yet another story on the issue, this time saying that even in liberal, tolerant, San Francisco, residents might not be feeling so liberal and tolerant when it comes to dealing with the homeless. As evidence, he points to one of those online polls SFGate ran about the issue in which 90% of the people said they wanted something to be done. We, as a rule, hate those "polls" because it's actual scientific value is nil as it's all determined by people who were motivated enough to play along and doesn’t factor in those who were too lazy to.

Even though he runs without any serious opponent, Newsom's camp is still pulling their hair out over this election and the turnout. Newsom'07 Phone Bank sent us a release, with the following:

We've a tip that the well-respected pollster, Field Research Corp. (who generate the oft-cited "Field Polls"), is closing its San Francisco offices.

As promised, the San Francisco Mime Troupe performed in Dolores Park for the public last Wednesday and last weekend. It was the premier of the group's show "Making a Killing," which lampoons the current administration. We dropped by the Sunday performance; the photo above is during a charming ditty where "Condi Rice" and "Dick Cheney" were arguing over who was more popular.

On Tuesday, the 49ers unveiled their shiny new plan for a stadium in Santa Clara. The whole thing will cost about $854 million with Santa Clara pitching in what is said to be $160 million, although Santa Clara still might have to throw down for another $20 million to move the substation that's on the grounds of the proposed stadium. The rest of the money, $694 million, will come partially from the Niners ($363.3 million) and partially through the usual assortment of things, mainly naming rights and fan gouging.

guys is pretty funny. Is payola coming back for web radio? And no more crack rap, please. Also, a birthday party for John Adams, and Savage Love forgot about adoption.

Well, look who's back for round three with the media! That's right, girls' girl and bumblebee Jennifer Siebel is tentatively tiptoeing back into the publicity news rounds, with a soft-focus lens interview in her daily newspaper, the Marin Independent Journal.

And it's the (drum roll please)....BART. BART?

Here t'is, just in time for the four day work week, the Official Best MUNI Line poll. We have the F Market Line as the favorite because, well, who doesn't love that line? We love riding them all the time despite the fact they're always crowded. Also tapped as favorites are the Cable Cars. Would we be San Francisco without them?. Then there's the Fightin' 1 California which seems to be a favorite of a lot of people. We've always found the 1 to be one of the better lines, mainly because they seem to roll by every minute. The dark horse, however, just might be the 41 if only because it's the, well, most scenic of routes.

The Chron today has an interesting story about all the effects of recent laws being thrown on small business, mainly restaurants. The recent laws in question are the rise in the minimum wage, sick paid leave, and the new health care initiative. All these laws sound great, but restaurateurs are not quite thrilled about them and so they've been particularly aggressive in fighting the resolutions, even getting in Chris Daly's grill about it. Ha! We made a pun. Anyways, they've sued over the health care bill to keep it from taking effect.

kind of way?), but that doesn't mean there hasn't been a lot going on! As Ross Mirkarimi proudly announced a week or so ago, "Wait till you see some of the stuff I have in the oven!" Is Ross Mirkarimi pregnant? Or maybe just making us a really nice cake!

Don't forget folks, that our Worst MUNI Line contest is in full effect. Right now, in what has to be seen as an upset, the 22 Fillmore is in the lead with the bruising 30 Stockton in second place. As for the predicted winner, the 38 Geary, that's in third place right now. Also remember that we selected these five lines based on an earlier post so if you don't see a line listed, it's only because not enough people mentioned it earlier. So keep on voting. We'll announce the winner on Friday.

38sf2.jpgAll right, and here it is-- the Official Worst MUNI Line contest. We've sorted through all your entries and suggestions and come up with these, the five worst lines out there. How did we come up with these? We used a complicated formula based on the number of times a line was mentioned; some algebraic equations set up on the official SFist database, and consulted a Magic 8 Ball. After being told to try again a few times, we finally selected these five, ranked in order of popularity.

More balletomania! We've read so much coverage of the 74th SF ballet opening night gala, we're starting to expect to see ourselves in these pictures!

The polls are closed and the readers have spoken-- It's Mirkarimi! Yes, with over 1/4 of the vote, Ross Mirkarimi beat out such heavyweights as Chris Daly, Matt Gonzalez, and Lou Seal to win the first official SFist Mayoral Poll. Was it the soul patch? The stylish hair? All the work to make it easier to buy dope? Either way, if SFist had it's way, it'll be Mayor McHottie vs. Supervisor McDreamy (or as a reader put it- Supervisor MIRKAdreamy) in a Mayoral Hot off. Congratulations Ross and let the rumors and idle speculation begin.

Now that Gavin has stopped playing coy and moved ahead with his re-election plans, the question is who will step up to run against Mr. 80% Approval Ratings? It's the parlor game anyone can play! So far, the question has been pondered in the Bay Guardian, Beyond Chron, and yesterday's Matier & Ross column. And the answer, so far? Nobody has the cajones to.

The polls are closed on our Vote For Your Favorite Gavin Newsom Date election and the votes are counted! And your winner, by a commanding lead, is..... BRITTANIE MOUNTZ!
