The New York Times sent Carpetbagger writer Melena Ryzik on a tour through Pixar in Emeryville, and she gushes, "Pixar's about as a cool a place to work as anyone can imagine!" Why look at this, they have a pool table! And ping-pong! And a glass case to keep all their Oscars from getting dusty. Anyway, blah blah, Pixar's awesome, blah.

Pixar Characters Grace U.S. Postage Stamps In 2011
Patton Oswalt, the comedian who lent his voice to Remy in Ratatouille (to us, though, he will always be Spence Olchin), sent out the following Twitter update: "On August 19th of next year, I'm on a postage stamp. Sort of." And he's right! He sort of is! And here they are!
Pixar's First Lady Director Dropped
From the NYTimes comes confirmation that Pixar has removed director Brenda Chapman from the Emeryville-based studio's upcoming girl-centric feature Brave. Chapman, who wrote the screenplay, would have become the first woman to direct a feature for the Pixar, had they not replaced her with director Mark Andrews. The Emeryville studio has also taken some flak for relying mainly on male characters and the film itself, a fairy tale about a headstrong princess in mythic Scotland, was expected to be the one that would place a Pixar character in the pantheon of Disney Princesses. While there's no doubt that we will still see Brave-themed trick-or-treaters in 2012, feel free to lament the lack of professional and/or fantasy female role models appropriately.
Afternoon Palate Cleanser: Pixar's "Day and Night"
Many of you have already gone to see Toy Story 3 have seen this short, but for the rest, we thought we'd share, since this weekend marks the opening of a new exhibit at the Oakland Museum called "Pixar: 25 Years of Animation." The exhibit brings us back to the studio's beginnings, first under the umbrella of LucasArts, their first film project "Knick Knack," and tells the story of the great house that John Lasseter built. Sidenote: see a conversation here with the creators of the above short film about what it's supposed to be about. [via NBC Bay Area]
Pixar's 'Up' Receives 5 Oscar Nominations
The ingenious and famously hardworking folks at Pixar must be celebrating today. The Emeryville studio's animated feature Up received a total of 5 nominations -- almost tying Disney's Beauty and the Beast, who received 6 nominations in 1991 -- including Best Picture.
SFist Tonight: Pixar Shorts
SFist sub-editor Leanne Maxwell is on temporary hiatus. (Psst, she's about to have an adorable little baby soon! We here at SFist HQ are thrilled about the soon-to-be bundle of joy. But until it arrives, Leanne must get her rest.) In her place, Amy Crocker will be manning, if you will, SFist Tonight and other sections of SFist.
Scribe at Chron Baby Blog Thinks He Found the 'Up' House
We've heard the new Disney/Pixar movie Up is fantastic, and we're not going to knock it or sing its praises here because we haven't seen it, and, well, we don't usually do movie reviews (trailer is after the jump).
