In our capacity as head of an agency that delivers pertinent pigeon dispatches, allow us to remind you that on this day in 1914, the last known passenger pigeon--named Martha, after George Washington’s wife--died in captivity in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Urbane Studies With The Tenderloin Geographic Society, Volume 30: Of Pigeons & Politics
This week, our friends at the Tenderloin Geographic Society invite you to join them as they take a journey through the magical world of books. Specifically, books written for children on the subject of the great city of San Francisco and our majestic, marginalized pigeon population. Follow along, and don't worry, we'll tell you when to turn the pages:
Urbane Studies With The Tenderloin Geographic Society, Volume 18: Don't Feed the Pigeons
In today's history lesson, a sequel of sorts to last week's Pigeon of the Month episode, our friends from the Tenderloin Geographic Society dive in to the archives to find a classic, yet underrated character in San Francisco's history: newsman-turned-adventurer Admiral Baron Ahab von Muller.
Pigeon Takeover at Sixteenth Street BART Station?

Found at Geary and Fillmore, Greg Dewar of N Judah Chronicles came across this bilingual, demanding sign that asks you to not cook and eat San Francisco's pigeons.
Film du Jour: Pigeons
We love 'em. Some of you hate 'em. Some of you like the taste of 'em. With that in mind, please enjoy Mission and Highland's awesome tribute to flying kittens / rats with wings. (You can debate on which one in the comments.)
Scene from a Bird Flight
Really, how can you hate them after seeing this? They're gorgeous in "Pigeons on a Mission," above, shot by Flickr photog captin_nod.
Wimbledon Under Fire for Pigeon Murder
Wimbledon, that top-drawer tennis championship played on grass way over on the other side of the pond, is currently underway. What's more, it's coming under fire for "using marksmen to shoot down dive-bombing pigeons" interfering with the matches on Centre Court.
Happy National Pigeon Day!
Today, June, Friday the 13, is National Pigeon Day. Yay! While some of you detest one of "nature's most successful creatures," today we stand up for the adorable little winged creatures. After all, they've done everything from helping "soldiers behind enemy lines" to providing fecal-based comic relief.
