OMG! It's the Nicole Ritchie of laptops! (Ritchie before she got fat and pregnant, that is.) It seems that the new MacBook Air, just unveiled a few hours ago, features multi-touch ability on its oversized trackpad, similar to that of the iPhone; some sort of crazy wirelessness; recyclable aluminum case; a mercury and lead free display; and you can buy the thing in two weeks, starting at around $1799. Read more about it here.......

Kids, it's time to get rocking. (Especially before the "Private Party" dry spell that is coming on. Yikes.) This week, the San Francisco music gods are offering a vast array of newbies and veterans - something that we will graciously partake of any day of the week. Now that the bets are in (okay, so no one really cast any bets - how boring is that?), you can go to Cafe du Nord, tonight,......

Eastern SOMA's budding, unfortunately named condo "community" BLŪ, on Folsom and Second Streets, is about ready to bloom in all of its steel and glass glory. Problem is, we don't see any lottery for affordable housing on their site. Has the lottery already happened? Or are they planning on having some sort of learning annex or UC Berkeley extension, a la The Paramount, to skirt those types? We can't seem to get anyone over......

The film adaptation of the popular book The Kite Runner has been delayed. According to The Advocate, "Paramount Vantage delayed the debut for six weeks, until Dec. 14, after three of its adolescent male stars said they could be targeted for their participation in a homosexual rape scene." Even the book's author, Khaled Hosseini, supports the delay. Plus, the young Afghan actors have also been evacuated from their homes for fear of...I don't know,......

Film Screens at 4:30p.m., 7, 9:30 at the Castro Theatre, 429 Castro (at Castro and Market Streets). -- Pete Yorn: American singer-songwriter and guitarist headlines along with reunited Australian rock outfit Crowded House and Liam Finn.......

LAist is experimenting with blogging dates from J-Date, but finds the best men are found offline. Some date vicariously online and that is one reason why porn is big -- really freaking big -- so they ask if they should cover XXX since the heart of it lays in the city's San Fernando Valley. A writer grapples with her food porn photography obsession, another gets censored on Flickr, one gets scooped by the LA......

We're tired of mojito-mixing Gavin Newsom now -- bring on the new guy in Oakland! Over on the sunnier side of the San Francisco Bay, former Congressman Ron Dellums is settling on in at 1 Frank H. Ogawa Plaza for his first full day on the job today. Yeah, we don't remember any dramatic hand-on-the-Bible or inaugural speechifying either -- it turns out they threw together a somewhat slapdash inauguration when someone realized that the......

SFist Rita is on a well-deserved holiday break so we apologize ahead of time for this week's suckage. Total number of people pictured in this week's Swells society column: Too many to count. It's the "Cotillion" Edition Total number of people pictured whose names we recognize: One. Danielle Steele. Minority count: Zero. It's the Cotillion-- like there'd be any minorities. Hi Rita, I'm writing in regards to the story below that you posted. I would love to speak with you about the person or people responsible for this type of hoarding and possibly have them as well as yourself appear on our Animal Hoarding......

Hey, time to fuel up that ol' SUV and drive with the freon-leaking A/C on to see local filmmaker Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth, opening on Friday at the Embarcadero Center (and at the Sequoia in Mill Valley). MoveOn.Org is asking people to buy tickets in advance to pump up the buzz, and Paramount has announced it'll be donating 5% of the profits to the Alliance for Climate Protection. Thanks, Green Party, for making it......

A "vagrant" is being blamed for a fire last Sunday at the Fox Theater on 19th and Telegraph in Oakland, near the Paramount. The theater is undergoing renovations and is slated to become a charter school focused on the arts. The Oakland FD found a small propane stove and a sleeping bag in an abandoned office space in the building, and the ensuing fire caused about $300,000 worth of damage. No injuries, though. In......
