She just wants to feel good. (Monster's Ball? Anyone?) Academy Award winner Halle Berry, according to SFGate gossip, "is considering relocating from Los Angeles to S.F. in an effort to protect her daughter from crazed paparazzi."

In an interview with Vogue magazine, Berry bemoans, "I worry that this whole insatiable appetite for celebrity children will somehow adversely affect Nahla. I don't think it's fair, and I don't think it's safe." Funny. Until this interview, we had no idea that a) she had a daughter or b) that her daughter was named Nahla.

Way to keep your kid out of the limelight, Catwoman.

Berry goes on to say that the press has already objectified her kid. "They just pick her apart on a very superficial level." They do?
On our tightly-packed MUNI ride to the Castro to the opening night festivities for the San Francisco International Asian-American Film Festival, we were squooshed next to three thrilled Asian-American film lovers eagerly listing all the movies they were planning on seeing over this week. Excitement is running high!

The SFIAAFF opening night screening was for , a faux-documentary comedy about the casting of a replacement Bruce Lee to finish Lee's last movie after his untimely death, directed by Asian-American wunderkind Justin Lin.

The mood got more and more buzzy as we neared the theater -- there was a green carpet arrival, with a woman whom we totally did not recognize mugging for paparazzi shouting "ONE MORE! ONE MORE!" at her, photobloggers shooting pictures of everything in sight, and anxious SFIAAFF staff nervously looking down Castro Street to see if featured actor (and blogger) MC Hammer was going to make it to the theater before the stated start time of 7 p.m.

There were people dressed in Bruce Lee yellow jumpsuits, elegantly-attired people no doubt heading out for the gala after the screening, a man collecting autographs who asked us whether we'd heard if Jennifer Siebel would be attending the screening (answer: no), and a man desperate to get into the screening who kept asking us if we'd sell him our plus-one ticket (and nearly attacked someone trying to return their tickets to the box office.) We hope he got in!

Filming has started for the upcoming Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo romantic comedy "If Only It Were True," based on an adaptation of local novelist Marc Levy's 2000 novel of the same name. If you don't recognize the location, it's 16th and Valencia - photoblogger Bill of Mermaniac tells us the bookstore location <strike>has been renamed</strike> is "Abandoned Planet". It seems there's already been a sighting of Ms. Witherspoon at Dolores Park over the weekend.

The crew will be filming in the city through the 23rd. Nancy Hayes is casting the local extras, although casting seems to be complete for now. We wonder where Reese and Mark will be staying -- picket lines better not be crossed or we'll call our friends in the film unions! SFist figures it will be the Clift, but the production could also have rented a house or two for the paparazzi-shy stars. Needless to say, principal photography for this story based in San Francisco will be filmed on sets in Los Angeles. The San Francisco Film Commission is expected to announce that local schlock jock Chris Columbus will be shooting the full production of Rent -- starring one of SFist's favorite Hollywood hotties, Rosario Dawson. The announcement should come in the next week, and bodes well for future big-budget shoots by the Bay.
