Horribly, it seems to have returned. Can you access the site? We can't. Multiple theories are popping up -- generally, hackers or incompetent cyber-Mohammedans are getting the blame -- or perhaps Google itself is at fault?

This may not be just affecting Youtube -- sites with embedded Youtube videos are predicting problems of their own. Worse yet, the issue is affecting users globally -- and has even impacted our most cherished purveyors of filth. But don't give up hope! Youtube's wrested back control of the situation, and is surely working feverishly on patching things up.

According to a spokesman, all this will "soon allow every American to experience a virtual flight over the surface of the moon or through the canyons of Mars." And yes, that sound pretty cool. And when the aliens come, this time we'll totally be able to Google them. The truth can be Googled, after all.

Google and NASA (NAGLE? GOOSA?) have apparently been whispering sweet nothings for the past year after signing some sort of mutual appreciation fan letter. Since then, they have been working together on all sorts of technological things to which we totally don't understand.

And here’s some more tech news, news which might not have anything to do with the Bay Area (although once could argue that since it's about outer space and earth and as we live on earth it does) but is still pretty interesting nonetheless: the President is backing out of space treaties because, well, they don't do a good job of protecting us during space wars. Which, apparently, we are on the verge of having (awesome!). According to the Administration, other countries and "terrorists" are "acquiring capabilities to counter, attack and defeat U.S. space systems." We think the appropriate words to describe all this are "the hell?" We mean Osama lives in a cave somewhere in Pakistan, just what the kind of operation is he running? Is he building the Death Star somewhere off Jalalabad? Or maybe Kim Jong Il is building some sort of gigantic cannon on the moon and calling it "the Alan Parsons Project?".

Maybe we should just send Dick Cheney into outer space.

SFist Raves: Food Loving Fund Raising

You have got to love the food bloggers -- they have a real sense of community, perhaps more so than any other blogging group we have come across. As we settled into our seats at the Castro for the world premiere of documentary , part of the SF Int'l South Asian Film Festival, there was a generalized hubbub as a tall man wearing black and carrying a guitar case strode down the aisle. We heard his escort say, "It's so weird that no one's recognizing you!"

Turns out that man is Pakistani-American rock star Salman Ahmed, the narrator of the documentary It's My Country Too. Ahmed is the lead guitarist for the band Junoon, which has been called the U2 of Pakistan. We think this makes Ahmed Bono (scroll down to read Bono's letter to Ahmed), since the Edge doesn't seem to take too many positions on global politics. Junoon actually seems to be, in spirit and in sound, more like Pakistan's Rage Against The Machine with Ahmed their Tom Morello, but we don't actually know anything about the Pakistani rock scene.

It's My Country Too, produced by the BBC, follows Ahmed as he travels America trying to see how 9/11 politics have affected the Pakistani-American community. After the jump: Muslim comedians, Muslim lawyers, and the founders of the website Muslims for Bush (who are Salman Ahmed's aunt, uncle, and cousin).
