Jeez. According to @abc7newsbayarea, this officer (one of several) was drenched in a substance believed to be yellow paint during today's May Day protest in Oakland. As SFist reported earlier that paint was used as a weapon during tonight's unrest. Following a scuffle between the fuzz and civilian, "fellow protesters responded by throwing bottles and paint balloons at officers. The officers responded by charging at the crowd and issuing a dispersal order."

Police cruisers were later pelted with paint bombs, and one police vehicle was reportedly set ablaze. At least 23 people have been arrested so far during the demonstration in Oakland, one of several that took place throughout the country on Tuesday. Either you are the kind of person who feel giddy whenever a train passes, or you aren't. If you aren't, then there's simply no explaining the glee with which transit enthusiasts will receive this news: F-line tram 496, a Melbourne W-class vehicle, has been -- get this! -- refurbished.

The 80-year-old tram had its latest debut on Friday, complete with a fresh coat of paint and visiting dignitaries from Australia. Hip hip hooray! We hope to have some photos of the noble chariot soon. In the mean time, keep an eye out for its freshly re-done green and gold paint job.
