Pac-10 Predictions As Predicted By Cal Journalist

Pac-10 Predictions As Predicted By Cal Journalist

Except for 49ers correspondent Daisy Barringer, many of us here at SFist prefer baseball over football. Or women's gymnastics over football. Or Bad Girls Club over football. We don't know much about it, really. What we do know about football are such terms as "touchdown," "Raiderette," "in-zone," "date rape," and of course, "Pac-10." The latter term, we suspect, is an important one since it involves a number. What's more, Daily Californian sports scribe Katie Dowd has Pac-10 predictions you need to know about this very second! Schools in Oregon top her list. (Must be the moist climate that's conducive to a successful football game? We have no idea. Because, you know, it's football. All that scurrying around on the field followed by long pauses, it boggles the mind.) more ›

Pac 10 to Become Big 12?

Pac 10 to Become Big 12?

Yeah, we don't even know what Pac 10 means, really. So we had to look it up. Apparently, according to Wikipedia, it involves the football teams of Stanford, UC Berkeley, USC, UCLA, University of Washington, Washington State University, University of Arizona, University of Oregon, Arizona State University, and Oregon State University. But? This perfect number might be a thing of the past. It seems, according to The Daily Clog and other sources, they might invite other teams into the dogpile, thus rechristening it the Big 12. Which, if anything, sounds super erotic compared to the current sobriquet. Anyway, go team! Or whatever. more ›

It's Got to Be the Morning After

20070308__webcalbkc~3.JPG.jpg-Cal took down #4 ranked UCLA in their quarterfinal match of the Pac 10 tournament. They had a big lead at halftime and blew the big lead but managed to hold on to force overtime. It sounds like a great game, actually, as UCLA fought their way back and then the teams traded leads up until the end. They now go to the quarterfinals and play #16 ranked Oregon. At 16-16, Cal has no way of making the Tourney unless they win the Pac 10 Tournament which seemed impossible before, but... more ›

It's Got to Be the Morning After

Hey now-- the Warriors are on a bit of a roll as they won their second game in a row, beating the Nugs 110-96. Sure, Carmelo didn't play, but for the Warriors, they have to be happy with the game as it's the first time this season the exact same Warriors mentioned in the Warriors press guide actually all appeared in a game. All of this is making Bruce Jenkins and Tim Kawakami drink from of the very same sippy cup of Kool Aid SFist Chris drank from as they are all now having visions of being crushed by the Mavs in the first round of the playoffs. And hey, if that doesn't add some shine to your day, the Warriors, East Coast Edition, are sucking up the joint these days. more ›

USC 23- Cal 9: We honestly felt Cal would have no chance with USC as we figured Cal to be merely a "Good in the Pac 10" type team, the kind of team who could beat the Beavers but not the big guys. But Cal put up a fight and held 'SC close for three quarters before finally giving way to a superior Trojan team. They did have the lead at 9-6 at halftime but between stupid mistakes, turn overs, and some bad breaks, they couldn't do much against the Trojans in the second half, leading to the playing over and over again of that damn USC fight song. We hate that song. more ›

Pac Zen: The Way of Bay Football

Pac Zen: The Way of Bay Football

This SFist was actually kind of excited about the chances of the college football programs around the Bay this season, with the Pac 10 looking wide open. Then Cal got whipped like cream by Tennessee, getting nothing from potential superstar Marshawn Lynch (whom we've been watching closely for years), while Stanford was creamed like butter by Oregon, saddling themselves from the start with a conference loss. So when we were asked to write a weekly college football column, our reason for accepting was rather cynical: "It certainly won't be hard for readers to find tickets on game day." more ›

Who Reads Yesterdays Sports Papers?

First, onto baseball: The Giants are now on a three-game roll after taking two from the Cubbies and beating the Reds in ten innings Monday. Your Black & Orange hero? Shea Hillenbrand who hit the game-winning home run in extra innings. That trade is suddenly looking less like a total disaster these days. Also of note, the heating up of Barry Bonds who hit numero 730 and has now hit five home runs in his past six starts. That gulp you're hearing is of pitchers in the NL, other teams in the Wild Card hunt, and officials at Major League Baseball now pondering the meaning of a so hot right now Barry. The Giants have now won 15 of 21 and are for the first time in a long while, .500. No, we're not going to go there as of yet but we're starting to disbelieve our disbelief. more ›
