No, not Frank Chu -- although a Gav versus a crazy would be most fascinating, indeed -- Carmen Chu. Let's back up a bit here: In her first hickory-bold move since taking over for he who shall remain nameless, Chu decided to chip away at the homeless problem in the Sunset. Chu, according to the Examiner, "publicly demanded that several city departments come up with a specific plan to address her west side district’s homeless......

Did you hear? Surfer, skateboarder, artist, and occasional Paul Frank designer Thomas Campbell has a new show. This one, it seems, highlights his brand-spanking new work, which he describes as "surf-centric doodles, sculpture, photos, and sewn stuff." Raised as an Orange County "punk," he started out on the scene as part of the "bicoastal movement of street-smart artists who take their cues from underground culture." His rustically genuine work isn't featured here in SF......

-- A Vallejo husband and father, Kevin Owens, 41, went though with a murder/suicide pact (with himself, we guess) on Friday night. He shot and killed his wife, Stacey Owens, 38; wounded his two-year-old daughter; and then turned the gun on himself (right after "a big Thanksgiving dinner at their home Thursday night.") This happened on the 300 block of Carousel Drive. Owens' 10-year-old son managed to escape the bloodbath, run to a neighbor's,......

Among San Francisco’s myriad neighborhoods, few are as widely misunderstood as the Outer Sunset. Location certainly plays a role. To your average Upper Haight resident – to say nothing of your average South of Market or North Beach resident – this beach-adjacent community may seem as distant as Honolulu, with an N-Judah trip that may rival a flight to Oahu in terms of travel time. But it’s sometimes easy to forget that San Francisco is a mere seven miles wide, and that the folks out west do have phone numbers that begin with 415, rather than 808....

Admit it, the weather has been outstanding. No one can claim our high-rentian bargain of getting spectacular September weather has not been delivered in full. The beaches, parks, trails and sidewalks are the place to be weekend after weekend this month. The Love Parade was lovely and the Folsom Street Fair was crotchless chapirific. Some nights has even been warm enough to remove the long sleeves and leave the windows open overnight while the mornings......

When we get off the N at 43rd Avenue and walk the block home, we expect to see the usual randomly discarded furniture (some of which we take home shut up), and dog crap on the sidewalk, but that's about it. But starting yesterday, the Outer Sunset monotony was broken by the the unmistakable canopy of "Trading Spaces", the Learning Channel home-design show that we A) were surprised to realize is creating new episodes......

SFist has decided to take Dr. Phil's advice and to go out on "dates" with our long-standing sweetheart. Living in the Outer Sunset as we do, our desire to keep the relationship alive is tempered by a desire not to go to far from home. And thus a new, intermittent SFist feature is born, in which we review restaurants in the oft-overlooked Richmond and Sunset. We hope your inspired to try new some new......
