After staunching out the Arizona Cardinals last week, the Niners head to St. Louis to try to get ahead at the expense of the reeling Rams and claw ahead in the NFC West race.

Beloved Giant Orlanda Cepeda got busted today for drugs somewhere in Solano County. Police stopped him for speeding but after smelling the whacky weed in the car, they brought out the police dogs. The dogs found dope, a needle, and a white substance that could either be meth or coke.

-Baron Davis leads the way to another Warriors road win, this time against the Orlando Magic. Davis had thirty-eight points and nine assists as the Warriors held off a furious Magic rally to win.

Yeah, we know, we're stuck here at SFist fetishizing weirdo wonks like Gavin Newsom and Ross Mirkarimi because we don't have any actual celebrities in town that we can follow around and talk about. Well, it's not always true! Drew Altizer sends along some pictures he took at the GlobalGreen USA fundraiser benefit ("Gorgeous and Green: An Ecofabulous Party"), whose board has enough celebrities that they were willing to fly a couple of them up for the night to dazzle us in this here little small town.

Week Twelve of the National Football Season's regular season is here, post-Thanksgiving. Grab some leftovers and plunk down on the couch, here comes this weekend's set of Bay Area American football entertainment.

“Torture numbers, and they'll confess to anything..." Gregg Eaterbrook A's 5, Angels 4- Marco Scutaro hit an 0-2 pitch from Angels relief ace Francisco Rodriguez to score Bobby Kielty in the 12th inning to lead the A's to victory over the Angels. The A's magic number is now 2, as in can clinch the division today with a win. How about that? Very quietly, the A's vs. the Angels has become one of the best rivalries in sports and this game was another one to add to it. The game was tied 3-3 going into the 8th when Milton Bradley hit a solo-home run to take the lead. Houston Street came in to pitch the ninth, his fourth straight appearance, and made it to two outs before giving up a double to Maicer Izturis that Jay Payton had but lost after making a diving attempt to catch it. Itzuris got to third after a throwing error by Street (fans around the East Bay must have been dying about now) but Street got Orlando Cabrera to strike out to end the inning. Phew.

We were going to blame our missed post on Hurricane, Tropical Storm, Summer Shower Albert, but you see how that went, so we have to level with you. We were in Orlando last week on business, holed up in another convention center, this time without a laptop. We were supposed to be sharing one with someone from work, but if you've ever had to do that, or if you've ever had siblings, you know how well the sharing thing goes with something as valuable as that. ˙In any event, this absence meant that when we went to visit all our lovely SF blogs, well. . . there were quite a few. So, in the spirit of misanthropy towards all of blogdom and its never-ending torrent of text, our first link this week will be to le blog exuberance. Then, after we've ended poverty, we'll need somewhere to go to unwind. May we suggest the Santa Cruz mountains? And then, rested and refreshed, we're back into blogging.

In the past month we managed to catch up on two seasons of "Battlestar Galctica" (yes, we listened to our dear readers and got good and hooked) including the season finale, and now it's all over and we have to wait until OCTOBER for new episodes. Sheesh. Maybe we should have savored those DVDs instead of devoring them like the gluttons we are.

The Olympics are finally over, and television is returning to its regular line-up of tired reality shows and midseason replacements. We're stoked.

gaylordpalms01.jpgWe love those Food Network cookoff challenges! Make a birthday cake for Elvis! Decorate the best gingerbread house! Who can make the tallest ice/pastry sculpture? So we can't wait for Food Network's coverage of the mothership of food contesting -- the biennial $1,000,000 Pillsbury Bake-Off. So Pillsbury picks 100 contestants every two years, to compete in categories like "Wake Up To Breakfast," and "Brand New You" (healthful recipes), and "Dinner Made Simple," among others. The recipes must include at least two designated Pillsbury products, such as Yoplait, El Paso salsa, and Pop-Secret popcorn, among many others. One lucky winner walks away with a million dollars; and other $10,000 prizes will be awarded, including most dairy, and best Latino-influenced. The Bay Area has traditionally done pretty well in the bake-off -- the most famous bake-off winner was the Tunnel of Fudge chocolate bundt cake, made by a San Franciscan, and the first male winner of the contest was from Redwood City (with a macadamia torte). This year, the Bay Area's sending six representatives, including a very pregnant Mountain View cook (making spinach wonton crisps), a 48-year-old San Francisco male painter who's been entering the bakeoff since he was 10 (deviled crab and cheese rolls), and acclaimed food contestor Roxanne Chan from Albany, with a tomato-corn recipe. (Also, a shrimp and rice salad from Windsor, a taco steak pasta from Monterey, and bear claws from San Jose.) The bakeoff takes place from March 19-22 in Orlando, Florida. Go Bay Area cooks! And contestants, you're all just lucky SFist Derrick didn't enter this year -- he'd totally clean your kitchen-timer clocks!

Let's start by kicking out the jams. DJ Icewater mixes the sounds of Yay Area soul from past to present for a a Shout Magazine Shoutcast. What's old to Swerbo but new to us are hi-fi recordings of The Slip and Surprise Me Mr. Davis show at the Independent in November. Nicole Lee suggests some music podcasts, including a podcast by geek-rock legends They Might Be Giants. And topping the Yahoo search charts for 2005 are a mess of musicians, including our own Green Day at number five.

SFist has done their fair share of snarking on the Warriors in the past and feels kind of bad about it. It was just too darn easy, kicking that dog when they were down. But things have changed since then. The Warriors are h-o-t hot right now, hotter than leather chaps-wearing Jessica Alba dancing on a stripper pole. Well, not that hot, but you get our drift. Last night, the Warriors beat the Seattle SuperSonics 101-92 to win their fifth in a row, their longest winning streak of the year. And that's Seattle, as in Division Winning, possible title contending Seattle. Of course, as Ray Ratto pointed out, we've been here before and we're still talking about a team that's once more going to go to David Stern's little game show he likes to call the NBA Lottery Draft, but something feels different this time around. We are, after all, talking about a team that was well out of it months ago but is suddenly playing with a fire, passion, and energy usually not seen in these here parts.

Pixar, located on Hollis Avenue in Emeryville, has been on a rather fantastic run of hits, from the first Toy Story through the current king of the box office, The Incredibles. Disney, on the other hand, hasn't had a hit animated feature since The Lion King, and in fact Disney's Orlando animation studios have been shuttered. Andrew Millstein, who headed those facilities, is now out trying to poach artists from other studios to stock the new Glendale facilities while Michael Eisner is in a court in Delaware. Pixar, on the other hand, is seeing its stock rise based on the success of their latest effort, and also won approval from Emeryville voters to expand their facilities.
