-- On Saturday Friday at around 10:40 p.m., Jan. 26, 24-year-old Ernesto Williams was shot and killed while standing outside his car at the Chevron station at Sixth and Harrison streets. While waiting with his 26-year-old girlfriend, police claim a suspect drove up to the couple, exited his vehicle, and then "approached the victims and started shooting," killing the Oakland man and wounding his female companion. The suspect then "returned to the vehicle and fled the area," driving off in a "drove off in a gold-colored car." Cops have neither suspects nor description of the assailant(s).

Chucky appears to be back on the homeless beat this week with two stories about it. One is something that might piss people off, the other something that might not piss people off. We'll start with the one that might piss people off one first so we can cheer everyone up at the end with the one that won’t piss people off and make the post heart-warming, just in time for the holidays.

On Sunday morning Gary Cloutier, 45, (the gay one!) spent several hours in jail after being arrested for public intoxication in Palm Spring, CA. But he didn't just have a few sips of an appletini. It seems that the mayor wannabe was "staggering and could barely stand," according to CBS 5, after cops found him in his car, freshly sloshed after leaving a Palm Springs bar. (And it's not even White Party season!)

Clip in sports fans, between the weather and the Amgen Tour of California (TOC), it's going to be a great weekend for cycling in the Bay Area.

Whether you're tackling Mt.Tam on your Saturday morning club ride or comparing yourselves to the pros with a summit of Stage 3's infamous Sierra Hill climb, pack the sunscreen today and leave the rain shell behind.

On Sunday at 1:00 p.m., the TOC starts with the prologue, a 3.0 kilometer time trial from the Ferry building to Coit Tower.

at Biscuits and Blues (401 Mason St.), legendary New Orleans pianist, Henry Butler performs solo piano, combining the classical and jazz elements he absorbed at Louisiana School for the Blind and Southern University with the gospel, blues and R&B sounds he heard growing up in New Orleans. How do you feel about holiday music? We thought that KOIT started playing their 24/7 holiday programming a little early this year, but we do love randomly hearing Jose Feliciano's "Feliz Navidad" in our car. There are two holiday albums out this year that we've been enjoying. If you're a fan of Sarah McLachlan, you should buy her holiday album Wintersong. The CD has several traditional holiday tunes, but we were pleasantly surprised by a cover of "Happy Xmas (War Is Over)" and "Christmas Time Is Here". And while no cover of Joni Mitchell's "River" can really improve on the original, it was still a nice inclusion. The other Christmas collection we highly recommend is Sufjan Stevens' Songs for Christmas. For around twenty bucks, you get 5 CDs gorgeously packaged with stickers, a poster and a singalong book. That's over 42 Sufjan Christmas tunes.

Can you believe it's been fifteen years since the fire in the Oakland hills? On Sunday, October 20, 1991, a fire that had been smoldering near the Caldecott Tunnel burst out of control, jumping highway 24 (as pictured here) and burning down a swath of houses in Montclair, Rockridge, and the Berkeley hills, with fire-generated winds up to 50 mph. The fire burned right up to the famed Claremont Hotel, but the crews managed to get the fire controlled just in time to save the hotel. 25 people were killed, 150 people injured, and 3000 houses were destroyed.

SFist had a rock-n-roll weekend that started last Friday night at Varnish for our 2nd birthday party. Not only did DJ Ted of BAGeL Radio rock the house with a few hours of his finest tracks, our friend Nick Tangborn from Jackpine Social Club also brought Mark Eitzel down for a few beers. It was great to meet some readers and the SFist bingo game was a real highlight, especially when one of our partygoers asked if she'd gotten bingo by drinking one of each in a category of cocktails from the drink menu. We like that kind of initiative.

The Oakland A's will win the American League West. Yes, this year! We (SFist) are not accustomed to making barrel-chested predictions that eventually turn to fool's gold as it often does on ESPN's "Baseball Tonight" -- we're merely pointing out the obvious: the Oakland A's will win the AL West this year. Despite their anemic, Milton Bradley-less performance last night at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels and Joe Saunders-- who they made seem like a young Ron Guidry than the junk-ball throwing Tommy John clone that he is-- the A's will win more of those tightly-sewn games than the Angels, or god forbid, the perennial flame-out Texas Rangers. And they'll do it without resident genius Billy Beane making a nano-move during the trade deadline frenzy.

On Sunday, the Governator was rushed to the hospital after a motorcycle accident in Brentwood. Everyone involved is okay, but the Governor now has himself a big, fat lip and fifteen stitches. What happened is that Arnie was riding along Brentwood in his Harley-Davidson with his son Patrick in the sidecar when a neighbor in a SUV (oh, wouldn't it have been awesome if it was a Hummer?) pulled out of their driveway and didn't see the motorcycle. After the collision, Arnie got up from the motorcycle and blasted the SUV with a machine gun, causing a huge fireball to explode over the hills. Afterwards, all involved said the accident was just an accident and no charges have been filed. If we were the dude who caused the accident, though, we'd totally be careful what we'd say over the phone. No word on whether Arnie used his accident to try and bond with wounded soldiers back from Iraq like a certain President we know.

Tipster Yoshi infoms us:

On Sunday night, my girlfriend and I spotted a bespectacled Jimmy Fallon at Specs Bar in North Beach, digital camera in hand he looked like any other tourist, except this one knows Horatio Sanz. Anybody there know why he may have been in town?
Well, Yoshi, the buzz up here in Hollywood-North is that Jimmy was in North Beach preparing for his role in an upcoming docu-dramedy-thriller about San Francisco's very own Meredith Brody. It's a family-romantic-horror flick in which he plays a man who will go to any lengths necessary to protect his beloved pet lobster (played by that Wishbone dog) -- which, as we all know, is Meredith's favorite food to review, almost to the point of exclusivity. Though he had to don a fatsuit for his role in the hilarous upcoming hit . What a freak! Thanks for the tip, Yoshi.

First off, we just found out via Craiglist about a wharehouse party tonight featuring The Wildlife, barbarasteele, Joel Gion's The Dilettantes and Six Eye Columbia. They tell us to "Bring some champagne and come and dance." Sounds like a fine time! 9pm at 58 Natoma, $5 at the door.

If you're not going to HorrorFest, checking out the bands recommended by SFist Krissy like you should be or have tickets for Sleater-Kinney at the Warfield or Fischerspooner at the Fillmore, then here are some ideas:

Tomorrow is St. Patrick's day and Spring Break is upon us. What better time to discuss local Latino TV programming?

Valentine's Day is upon us, which means it's time to separate the lovers from the haters. Are those tiny red hearts shooting from your eyes, or little sharpened daggers? It's no matter, SFist promises to love you either way. Here are our picks for the this week's bay area music offerings.

On Sunday the 17th at 5:04 p.m., it'll be the 15th anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake.
