According to the Daily Kos, someone in the Clinton campaign took Obama's image from this video and darkened (a la OJ Simpson gracing the covers of Time and Newsweek) for this commercial. According to the Kos:

In case you needed yet another reason to despise Hillary Clinton and her vermin strategists, she's now running an ad blatantly lying about Obama's subcommittee. Her ad includes debate footage heavily doctored to make Obama blacker.

So to sum things up, politics is still a dirty game but you should act surprised with self-righteous indignation whenever this point rears its ugly head. Oh, and while we're busy with our in-fighting, McCain is just going to go ahead and steal the Oval Office if that's cool with you guys. Thanks.

Hostage Situation at Clinton Headquarters

Update: Sen. Barack Obama's campaign office in Rochester and John Edwards' offices have also been evacuated. Our sister site, Bostonist is live-blogging the situation right now. Apparently, a man wants to "speak to Hillary Clinton. He has two hostages (maybe more) and [allegedly has] a bomb strapped to his chest ... police have asked the media not to take live shots of the building." Yikes.

A little bit of breaking news well outside of the Bay Area jurisdiction: as of this morning, several people are still being held hostage at Hillary Clinton's campaign office in New Hampshire. According to CNN:

The affiliates said the incident began about 1 p.m. at the headquarters in Rochester. WMUR in New Hampshire said the hostage-taker was an armed man ... a witness, Lettie Tzizik, told the station she spoke to a woman shortly after she was released from the office by the hostage-taker, saying "[a] young woman with a 6-month or 8-month-old infant came rushing into the store just in tears, and she said, 'You need to call 911. A man has just walked into the Clinton office, opened his coat and showed us a bomb strapped to his chest with duct tape,'" the Web site reported."

Clinton was in the Washington area at the time of the incident.

More on this later. Now back to NorCal-y tidbits. (And perhaps this will stave off a day of Robert Morrow's ever-amusing "Hillary Is A Bull-Dyke" emails? We hope so.)

Also, although we doubt it will have the same OJ Simpson-Al Cowlings-White Bronco appeal, you can read more about it and watch it live here.

Das Klagende Lied

The Mahler cycle must go on. The kind brother finds it, upon which the evil one goes all OJ on him to steal the flower and the promised bride. Part II sees a minstrel finding one of the slain brother's bones, and making a flute of it, which sings the tale of part I. Oh sorrow, woe! Oh, sorrow! indeed. The musician rushes to the princess' castle in part III, whereupon the remaining brother plays with the fateful flute, and brings upon more sorrow and more woe.

Shannon Doherty was about to be kicked off "Beverly Hills 90210"
"Real World San Francisco" aired
Pulp Fiction was released
Biggie and Tupac were still alive and Kurt Cobain was alive for everything but the tail end of the season
People were into Ace of Base
Netscape Navigator was introduced
OJ got into his buddies' Bronco and all hell broke lose.

They attacked on offense, banged some heads, and had great goaltending to win their second game in a row. In the game, Milan Michalek scored two goals and Nabokov made twenty-three saves to get the win.

But we have a shameful confession to make. No, it's not that we secretly love/hate Gavin Newsom. No, it's not that we secretly love/hate Matt Gonzalez. We are the Susan Polk trial.

It's embarrassing! We never got into the OJ Simpson case, and we only followed the bare outline of the Scott Peterson trial. (Perhaps as a previous indication of things, though, we did obsessively follow the dog mauling trial. Who'd've thought out of everyone in that case, Kimberly Guilfoyle would be the one we hear the most about today? It's like how we never would have guessed that Posh Spice would have had the longest career.) But we're totally reading every single day the latest shenanigans in poor Judge Laurel Brady's courtroom over Susan Polk, defending herself against charges that she murdered her husband.

We've already thrilled to the constant requests for a mistrial, the fights about the sleeping juror, the expert who fled the courtroom, the son on Mom's side who's had the restraining order entered against him, the other two sons who think their mother did it, the increasingly-snippy remarks of the prosecutor.
