Oakland Hills Man Shot While Walking Dog; Two Others Shot in Unrelated Incident

A man returning home from walking his dog on the 7000 block of Elverton Drive in the Oakland hills was shot last night around 10:30 p.m. while trying to enter his home. He was approached by two suspects from behind, one of them armed, who said something to him as he was walking toward his house. He either refused to respond, or responded while trying to get through the front door, and one of the suspects shot him in the arm before fleeing the scene. The man was transported to a local hospital and treated for his wound. more ›

Police are warning the Oakland Hills neighborhood about a rash of frightening robberies starting at the Redwood Road Safeway. It seems "at least half a dozen shoppers have been targeted leaving a grocery store, followed home, and robbed." And most of the have been elderly women. more ›

Local Fire And Brimstone (If By Brimstone We Mean Generalized Trouble)

Did you see (video footage) all that smoke (pictures) yesterday? A fire at 17th and Noe Street between the Mission and the Castro at around 6:30 yesterday evening displaced at least 14 people, and sent seven to the hospital for smoke inhalation. One man had to be rescued off the roof. The fire spread to the building next door too, but firefighters managed to put it out before that building was too damaged. The SFFD is still investigating the cause of the fire, though one witness said she'd been repeatedly complaining to her landlord about pot smokers in the building. more ›

A cement truck overturned on the 7100 block of Thorndale Road in the Oakland Hills. The driver apparently got lost in the windy roads and then somehow ended up sideways in a ditch. No one was hurt, but they had to haul out two tow trucks with cranes to pull up the downed vehicle. more ›
