And the resort has been in the news in recent years — resort owners were charged with illegally siphoning water from a public creek during a drought, though put themselves in a better light by offering the place as a fire evacuation shelter during the Loma Fire the following year.

And now Lupin Lodge is in the news again, as the Chronicle reports the resort is on the market for $32.8 million. It had already been announced as being for sale last November, when owner Lori Kay Stout told the Los Gatan, “I’m selling it for health reasons, and I want to retire.”

According to a Realtor.com listing, the site is 112 acres, and features a 24,000-square-foot compound with 37 bedrooms of indoor housing, plus 22 bathrooms. Outdoor facilities include 19 cabins, 16 yurts, plus camping and RV sites, and there are other amenities like tennis and pickleball courts, volleyball courts, a pool, outdoor stages, and nude hiking trails that would not necessarily need to remain nude trails.

And, interestingly, the resort is the oldest surviving member of the Los Gatos Chamber of Commerce.

Christie’s International Real Estate listing agents Joe Pollifrone says in the Realtor.com writeup that he envisions the buyer wanting to put in a conference center, winery, or entertainment venue. He is not optimistic that someone with $32 million laying around would keep it a nudist resort.

He says the owners “would love to do that, but there’s a very small chance of it, because [the asking price] is such a big number,” adding, “We are going to hit up a lot of these other nudist resorts, but I just I don’t think they’re going to have those kinds of funds.”

If you’d like to shake off your clothes and get to know the place, Lupin Lodge is having a 90th anniversary celebration this coming weekend. The resort’s website also lists events happening through the end of October.

Related: Loma Fire Evacuees Welcomed At Nudist Resort As Containment Date Gets Pushed [SFist]

Image: Lupin Lodge via Facebook

Video: Nude Man at Bloomingdale's Violently Assaulted By Vigilante

A video that just surfaced, filmed at Bloomingdale's at SF's Westfield Mall, depicts a horrifying scene that brings up issues about SF's problem of untreated mental illness, and inexcusable violence committed in a misguided vigilante mindset.

SF News

crime

nudity

bloomingdale's

assault

Jay Barmann

A video that just surfaced, filmed at Bloomingdale's at SF's Westfield Mall, depicts a horrifying scene that brings up issues about SF's problem of untreated mental illness, and inexcusable violence committed in a misguided vigilante mindset.

This video comes to us from bystanders in Bloomingdale's, and/or a security guard who at the time was trying to encourage a nude young man, wearing only a face mask and carrying a fire extinguisher that likely belonged to the store. It may have been shot last weekend, though the date is not clear. The video was reposted by often problematic SF Streets Instagram account, which is filled with similar incidents involving Walgreens thefts, the mentally ill and homeless, and all the "undesirable" aspects of SF crime and street life that has come to define the city on conservative media channels. (SF Streets picked up the video from a breathlessly pro-Trump, pro-DeSantis Twitter account called Libs of Tik Tok, which itself stems from an already suspended Tik Tok account of the same name, with the caption "Meanwhile in the San Francisco hellhole.")

The young man in the video, clearly experiencing a mental health incident, is unresponsive to the security guard telling him to leave the store, and he only stands still at the bottom of an escalator, not speaking at all. Then, from behind, comes an attack.

<blockquote class="instagram-media" data-instgrm-captioned="" data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CbqkpC5j2JU/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF;
True to form, Berkeley's City Council meeting on Tuesday night included some lengthy public debate about an issue that's not exactly vital city governance at the moment, and ultimately devolved into some yelling and chaos thanks to nudism/body freedom activist Gypsy Taub.

Just last week we learned that Berkeley was considering lifting a decades-old ban (and one that isn't even on the books in San Francisco, which is arguably a less intensely liberal place) on the baring of women's nipples in public. Yes, bare breasts are illegal on the streets of Berkeley — go figure! — and as an extension of the anti-shaming-of-breast-feeding campaign #FreeTheNipple, Councilmember Kriss Worthington introduced the measure, which says "It is nonsensical and sexist that Berkeley criminalizes the display of the female nipple while allowing the display of the male nipple." As NBC Bay Area reported, the ordinance goes on to say that the female nipple is not inherently sexual if its regularly bared to babies and toddlers, and lifting the ban on toplessness would avoid "future complications ... before they even arise and grow into complex legal issues," especially when it comes to trans men, for instance, who decide to go topless before they've had chest reconstruction surgery.

Public comment on the ordinance extended well past 11 p.m. Tuesday, and ultimately the Council voted to table the issue after Councilmembers Sophie Hahn and Susan Wengraf essentially called it a waste of the Council's time. Per NBC Bay Area, Hahn said at the meeting, "We have a lot of fake news. I really question whether this might be a fake women’s movement." She added that the proposed ordinance should have first gone through the city's Commission on the Status of Women.

I think I would rather die a thousand painful deaths than serve on the Berkeley City Council, but I digress.

Following the meeting's adjournment, as you can see in the NSFW video, Taub just loses it at the 16-minute mark and says, "Okay, f*** it. Let's do it. Let's get naked. Let's get arrested." She proceeds to strip — as she did many times at SF City Hall over our nudity ban — and then jump up on the bench of the council chambers after all the councilmembers and the mayor have already left.

On her website, Taub writes, "Sophie Hahn completely disregarded the will of the people. 8 people made public comment. Every single one of them was in favor of the legislation, in favor of letting women decide for themselves whether to wear a bra or not. But Sophie Hahn didn’t give a damn about the public."

Note that the first speaker who goes up to the podium in the first video above, to whom you can hear Taub say "speak up!," is Taub's 14-year-old son.

It's been a while since we were debating Scott Wiener's nudity ban, which took effect in 2012 and has resulted in several older nudist gentlemen who frequent Jane Warner Plaza in the Castro having to wear small socks on their dongs. The ordinance, which was supported by some of Wiener's constituents in the Castro who were tired of the dong parade, was seen by many as another example of San Francisco slipping ever further away from its kooky, libertine, bohemian, and anti-authoritarian roots. But how far back do those roots really go?

That's the question addressed in a piece by KQED, which takes a broader historical perspective on nudity here by the Bay. There were no laws against public nudity in SF until the 1960's — under state law, indecent exposure is illegal, when it is sexual in nature, however flaccid-dong nude sunbathing and standing around, as many have observed in the Castro, falls under the purview of local governments. By the time the Summer of Love arrived 50 years ago, conservative San Franciscans decided they were going to draw the line at seeing hippies frolicking nude or having sex in Golden Gate Park, and the city passed a law against nudity in public parks.

Thomas J. Cahill, who served as SF's chief of police from 1958 to 1970, once described it like this: "It wasn’t uncommon for a gal to come out of the bushes there in the Panhandle without a damn stitch and stand right in front of you with her hands up. I was out in the park and two started going to it on the lawn beside me."

Still, it wouldn't be until Wiener's 2012 law that nudity would be explicitly banned outside of parks, and even then he made exceptions for permitted events and marches, like Folsom Street Fair and Bay to Breakers, and traditionally nude beaches — and the National Park Service actually designates the northern end of Baker Beach as a legally sanctioned nude beach. (And you'd best believe that The Daily Show had some fun with the fact that a nudity ban was being pushed by someone named Wiener.)

Nudist activists like SFist fave Gypsy Taub have for the past five years been trying to test the city and this law, getting permits for events like the Summer of Love anniversary nude parade in August 2016, shown in the video below, which she then repeated this past May. Though nudity was supposed to have been exempted at Bay to Breakers under the Wiener law, Taub found herself getting ticketed for being nude at the race in 2014 — a ticket that she of course fought.

Nudists proceeded to sue the city over such citations, and won a $20,000 settlement to cover their legal fees in 2015. It remains to be seen whether an appeals court will settle the matter of whether nudity in the streets falls under the First Amendment as an act of expression.

(Side note: Taub recently got jailed for dancing naked in the streets of Paris, and was charged with indecent exposure. But the charges were later dropped after she and her three kids missed their return flight home. Hear her tell the tale here.)

Says Taub, who has regularly had her underage children marching naked alongside her, "People say that somehow public nudity hurts children. I would say to the contrary. Because children who grew up without ever seeing a naked body grow up extremely insecure about their own body because all they see is commercials and porn."

On the Saturday morning before this year’s Folsom Street Fair, while most of us were still blacking our boots or rigging our pony carts, a social media skirmish broke out regarding the rights of photographers versus the rights of the scantily clad at sexy large-scale events like this one. The target of this ire was the Ask First campaign, a volunteer group of advocates responsible for the little yellow “Ask First” stickers seen above. Ask First’s mission is to require consent before touching and engaging with others, and they extend this concept to taking pictures, too. But some photographers have pushed back against the campaign, exposing a complicated conflict regarding street photography and public nudity in the age of self-publishing, viral image-sharing, and facial recognition technology.

Photographer Tony Perez, whose status below was a widely shared screenshot on social media Saturday, is not some random Internet troll. He's been a pretty accomplished burlesque scene and concert photographer for years. Attempts to reach him for comment in this article were unsuccessful, but the status below certainly contains comment.

Not particularly artful language there, but the guy has a technical point — there is no legal requirement to get consent or permission to take photos of nude people at the Folsom Street Fair. “The fair takes place on a public street and as such, there are no restrictions on photography,” Folsom Street Events executive director Demetri Moshoyannis has said in past interviews. “We do ask photographers to ask permission as a matter of courtesy and mutual respect.”

That ‘courtesy and mutual respect’ component is what Ask First is trying to push, and plenty of photographers have pushed back. “This is not the first discussion I’ve had with photographers about this topic,” Ask First founder Maxine Holloway told SFist. “I have several other emails in my Inbox from photographers expressing disdain for this campaign.”

Funny, because we here at SFist post an NSFW set of explicit Folsom Street Fair pictures every single year on the Monday after the fair. We get them from the Flickr sets of photographers with whom we have a level of trust. In some cases, the consent is obvious because the naked people are conspicuously posing for a photo (NSFW link). In other cases, the consent is implied because the individuals are hamming it up in a public scene of bondage (NSFW link). But we also have incidents of some naked shlub standing in the background (NSFW link) or straight-up boob shots (NSFW link).

It’s unclear whether the naked shlub or the boob shot subject gave permission to be photographed. Heck, I even posted the image above as my Facebook cover photo — featuring roughly 2,000 Folsom attendees whose permission I did not receive to photograph. I patted myself on the back for being so ethical, because surely none of these 2,000 people can be recognized. But what if some facial recognition technology comes out tomorrow that can identify them all, tag them all with links to their Facebook accounts and add “Was At Folsom Street Fair” check-ins? This technology does not currently exist, but I’d bet my left lung that Zuckerberg has people working on it as we speak.

Image: Ask First Campiagn, Instagram

In response to this very scary gray area, the Ask First campaign put out the above “Handy How-To Guide” for consensual photography. “This guide is really for people photographing in public or in a crowd, not necessarily just for Folsom, although the stakes for Folsom photos often feel a little bit higher,” Ms. Holloway said. “When someone has their picture on SFist and is a teacher and people see them at the Folsom Street Fair, the repercussions of that can be different than if they’re at the North Beach Blues Festival.”

“I understand how photographers want to capture this really wonderful moment, but I think that people’s privacy and consent should come before that need to make a pretty picture,” she added. “If the consent and comfort of your subject isn’t really high that list, that feels really scary.”

So photographers, do have a look at the Ask First guide to street photography of public nudity. After all, we’ve still got the Castro Street Fair coming up Sunday in all of its foreskin-painting glory.

Perhaps in an effort to catch the reality-TV star mid-dirty job, an unknown drone operator stands accused of piloting the device outside the bedroom window of San Francisco resident Mike Rowe and taking a good, hard look at what was inside. The star of Discovery's Dirty Jobs took to Facebook last Tuesday to express his outrage, as well as to gleefully detail his naked, shotgun-wielding response.

"Early this morning, deep in the middle of some sort of strange gardening dream, I was awakened by the sound of a giant bumble bee, hovering a few inches from my ear," explained Rowe, setting the stage for the man-on-machine encounter (the entire post is embedded below). "As I slowly entered a more conscious state, I realized the sound was not coming from a bee in a dream, nor for that matter, a bee in reality. It was coming from something much larger, just outside my bedroom window."

And what, pray tell, could that be? Well, this being San Francisco, it was of course a drone — an apparently recording one at that.

"Dressed in my favorite pair of non-existent pajamas, I leapt from my bed and pulled the drapes aside," he recalled. "There, not three feet in front of me, was a camera, dangling from the underside of a drone. The red light was on, and the camera was rolling."

While San Franciscans may be used to seeing drones doing odd things in weird places, even the most level-headed of us would likely lose our composure upon realizing that a drone was livestreaming our naked (and sheet-line creased) bodies. Like the red-blooded American Rowe is, he reached for his gun.

"Seconds later I’d pulled the Mossburg 12-guage from under my bed and grabbed the cellphone from the bedside table," he wrote. "In no time, I was out on the deck downstairs, about fifteen feet below the electronic Peeping Tom."

But just when he locked his aim on the device, he realized its camera was pointed right at him. And, unfortunately for the privacy-minded, his better judgement prevailed. "I’d like to tell you I stopped because I realized that discharging my weapon in such a fashion would be frowned on by the local constabulary," explained Rowe. "But really, what stopped me was the realization that somewhere nearby, a drone operator was staring at his monitor, pondering the image of a very naked guy with a very familiar face, pointing a shotgun into the lens of his Go Pro and looking every bit as crazy as Gary Busey and Nick Nolte at the nadir of their careers."

And so, perhaps reluctantly admiring someone's ability to outsource the dirty job of nude celebrity creeping, Rowe put down his shotgun and took a photo instead. As for the drone — it flew away, likely to creep on someone else who may or may not be as level headed as our local reality TV star.

Leave Me Adrone!
Early this morning, deep in the middle of some sort of strange gardening dream, I was awakened by the sound of a giant bumble bee, hovering a few inches from my ear. As I slowly entered a more conscious state, I realized the sound was not coming from a bee in a dream, nor for that matter, a bee in reality. It was coming from something much larger, just outside my bedroom window. Dressed in my favorite pair of non-existent pajamas, I leapt from my bed and pulled the drapes aside. There, not three feet in front of me, was a camera, dangling from the underside of a drone. The red light was on, and the camera was rolling.
I was slow to react, partly because I was still waking up, and partly because my first instinct when confronted with a camera is to say something pithy. I can’t help it. I’ve been saying pithy things to cameras for the last thirty years, and old habits die hard. Well this morning, I had no words for the outrage I felt at such an intrusion. I was incensed, and as Freddy egged me on with a chorus of snarls and barks, I moved onto my second instinct - an irresistible urge to blow the contraption out of the sky.
Seconds later I’d pulled the Mossburg 12-guage from under my bed and grabbed the cellphone from the bedside table. In no time, I was out on the deck downstairs, about fifteen feet below the electronic Peeping Tom. The drone had moved even closer to my window. I could see the camera panning left to right, and I could hear my dog unleashing a level of indignation usually reserved for raccoons and feral cats. Somewhere, in the logical part of my brain, it occurred to me that nothing good can come from an angry B-list celebrity standing on his deck with no clothes and a loaded shotgun, but I was not really in touch at that moment with the logical part of my brain. I was focused only on the joy that would follow the roar of the Mossburg, and the satisfying sprinkle of cheap plastic that would rain down upon my deck in the aftermath.
I pumped a shell into the chamber, enjoying the “crunch-crunch” sound that makes shotguns worth owning. I had a clear shot - nothing but blue sky above - and more than enough umbrage to justify the destruction I was about to unleash. But then, as I was literally squeezing the trigger, I saw the camera tilt down. It was pointed directly at me, and in that moment - I froze.
I’d like to tell you I stopped because I realized that discharging my weapon in such a fashion would be frowned on by the local constabulary. But really, what stopped me was the realization that somewhere nearby, a drone operator was staring at his monitor, pondering the image of a very naked guy with a very familiar face, pointing a shotgun into the lens of his Go Pro and looking every bit as crazy as Gary Busey and Nick Nolte at the nadir of their careers. I froze, because I could see the video that might very well appear on the local news, (with considerable blurring, naturally.) The same video that might soon appear on my mother’s computer screen, along with the headline - “Dirty Jobs Guy Totally Loses It - Gets Naked and Shoots Drone From San Francisco Skies.”
When the moment passed I put the shotgun down and reached for my phone instead, just as the wicked contrivance bugged out for the Wild Blue Yonder. The attached photo is all I have in the way of proof, and I hope to God that’s all the proof you’ll ever see. Because honestly, I have no idea who is in possession of the footage I’ve just described. Nor do I have any idea if it will appear in your news feeds later this week. I sincerely hope not, but I know it’s out there, and there isn’t much I can do about it but make sure - if the unthinkable occurs - that you can all say you heard it here first

Looking to see a bunch of naked people that are, well, deceptively naked? Then the Saturday, September 24 Body Art Show & Parade is for you. Coming to the strip of the Embarcadero between the Ferry Building and Pier 1, the festival aims to show painted and modded bodies in all their glory.

"This is an art event exhibiting a wide variety of body decoration," reads the event page. "Our bodies are the art work. This is a 'bare as you dare' event, which means that participants (and spectators) can attend completely naked if they wish. However, since it is a body art event, participants (including nudists) are encouraged to decorate their bodies in some manner."

Just what, exactly, is body art? We touched on the topic in August of last year with a look at the (actually) painted ladies of San Francisco. Artist Trina Merry painted models to seamless blend into their surroundings, and the effect was pretty cool.

Broke Ass Stuart got wind of the forthcoming show/parade, and helpfully informs us that it is both free to observe and free to participate (nice!). And as the organizers point out, you should definitely, at least, show up. "It took more than two years of Federal Court litigation to force the City of San Francisco to issue the permit for this art event," they explain. "In order to keep our rights to freedom of artistic expression, we must make use of them on a regular, public basis. So, on this day, let’s show and educate the world through art that skin is a canvas and the human body can be a creative, expressive, work of art."

Sadly the video's been yanked off Instagram, but a possibly unstable and/or extraordinarily high young white man went streaking through Hayes Valley, in the vicinity of Octavia, on Friday afternoon. As Hoodline explains, via SFPD spokesperson Giselle Talkoff, police responded to a call around 1:30 p.m. of the naked suspect banging on cars.

He was, apparently, "pointing his privates" at officers, and did resist arrest, at least until they pepper-sprayed him. "Upon attempting to detain the male subject, he became combative, and appeared to have an altered mental status," says Talkoff.

No word on whether he was a Trump detractor or supporter, like this fashion model who recently put on a similar naked display whilst having some kind of mental break in Times Square in New York.

Unfortunately, our naked guy does not appear to be a model.

In other news, are bath salts still a thing?

Other than the occasional nude march and rally, most San Franciscans have settled into Supervisor Scott Wiener's three-year-old ban on exposed flesh without too much grumbling, but now a location scout who's worked with some of the biggest Bay Area-set productions is suggesting that SF's puritanical ways might quash film and TV-makers' desire to shoot in our city.

Matthew Riutta's worked as a Bay Area location manager for all the biggies: Fruitvale Station, Moneyball, Zodiac, and many more (you can see his IMDB page here). Right now he's working on the second season of Sense8, the partially SF-set Netflix series from the Wachowskis.

In addition to shoots at Alamo Square's Westerfeld House and the Castro Theatre, this season of the science-fiction drama apparently will have scenes set in Glen Park's Billy Goat Hill Park. It's the latter location where the production (and Riutta) ran into trouble, according to the Chron.

Reportedly set in the park's iconic tree swing, which Curbed SF once described as "a chance for the brave to watch the land drop from beneath their feet," the scene in question "was supposed to be...romantic" the Chron reports. But "someone accidentally got naked," and now Riutta has been hit with a $1,000 fine and "must now pay a $10,000 security deposit for any future park filming permits."

Riutta, who in a 2013 interview with the Chron explained that his job requires that he both "get the film done, but also respect the locations and the residential community where you film," was not pleased by the sanctions imposed against him by San Francisco's Recreation and Park Department. As you might imagine!

Addressing the Board of Supervisors through a letter from his attorney, Riutta accused Rec and Parks with a "lack of transparency and process in relation to fees and policies." He's asking that the fine and his new deposit requirements be removed.

Of course, Rec and Parks isn't responsible for enforcing SF's nudity laws, which as of February 2013 made it illegal for anyone over the age of five to expose their genitals or perineum on public streets, sidewalks, street medians, parklets, plazas, or while riding public transit. Instead, it's up to the San Francisco Police Department to cite violators, with tickets that begin at $100 and rise for each additional offense over the course of a year.

That's hardly the $1000 demanded by Rec and Parks, so what gives? It's hard to say: Given that we don't have a date for the alleged offense, an SFPD spokesperson couldn't investigate any possible reports for me, and my call to Rec and Park had not been returned at publication time.

It's also unclear if Rec and Parks even oversees the swing on which the nudity reportedly occurred, as Curbed SF urges caution for swingers as they "are not sure the swings are sanctioned (or inspected) by any city entity."

In that letter to the Board of Supes, Riutta's attorney says "The Parks Department appear to perceive filming as a nuisance to be limited, which has a dangerous chilling effect for future film, television and commercial productions." Perhaps it's time for local gay porn concern NakedSword to get to work on a sequel to their 2013 opus mocking our nudity ban, The Cover Up. May I suggest they entitle it Billy Goat Buff?

No doubt a consistent and stubborn bunch, SF's local coalition of nudist activists will be having another nude-in at Jane Warner Plaza in the Castro Saturday afternoon. To protest the nudity ban. Which passed two and a half years ago.

Yes, you will find more than the usual band of naked older gentlemen, as well as SFist fave Gypsy Taub, out there at noon on Saturday, September 26, and maybe someone will be arrested, or maybe not.

Per Gypsy:

We applied for a permit, but the SFPD did not issue a permit and keeps coming up with excuses and playing mind games, as usual. Our lawyer Gill Sperlein is working on getting a restraining order against the SFPD to stop them from interfering with us and is also working on filing a new lawsuit based on the SFPD continuously denying us permits in violation of the conditions of the nudity ban which is supposed to have exemptions for permitted events.

The nudists recently claimed a victory when a federal judge awarded them a $20,000 payment for legal fees as their case against the city moves to the Ninth Circuit. They are suing claiming that their right to free speech was violated when they were cited for nudity in the context of a protest, following the ban that took effect in 2013.

Also, Gypsy tells us that there's an early Halloween party happening which will be all-nude, on October 17. It's dubbed Night of the Naked, and it's happening in Dogpatch at the Little Boxes Theater, and to be clear this is not clothing-optional. This is mandatory nudity, and there will be media/video recording happening so you're advised, "Wear a mask or face-paint if shy."

Update: A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order against the SFPD prohibiting them from interfering with Saturday's nude-in, following the department's refusal to issue a parade permit for the gathering. The nudists just sent out a release:

Today a federal district judge ordered the City and County of San Francisco and the San Francisco Police Department to issue a parade permit to George Davis, Gypsy Taub, and a group of other urban nudists. Davis and Taub are currently in litigation with the City over whether San Francisco’ nudity ban can be enforced against individual engaged in political demonstration supporting body freedom and condemning the recently enacted ban.

This separate skirmish involved the SFPD’s refusal to grant a parade permit to the nude activist. This is critical because permitted parades are exempt from the nudity ban. But the SFPD stated that the group of 50 to 100 activists did not qualify as a parade and they must therefore walk on the sidewalk without a permit, and without the protection of the permit exemption to the ordinance. District Judge Seeborg found that the ordinance failed to offer any guidelines on the number of people required for a parade and therefore the ordinance gave the SFPD too much discretion making the provision unconstitutional.

Several years in a row, organizers have tried to galvanize breast-baring ladies to stage the act of civil disobedience known as Go Topless Day in San Francisco, but once again the event was less than well attended — and this time was met with some pushback by park rangers in Dolores Park. The Chron snapped a few SFW (i.e. nipple-free) photos of the gathering, which was about a dozen strong, before the women present caved to pressure from the rangers, gathered their things, and dispersed.

Noted SF nudist and sometimes mayoral candidate George Davis showed up wearing an ornamental bra (which he removed), and all told it looks like there were a few more women showing their boobs than in 2013, when only two ladies showed up.

It's no wonder, though, that this event hasn't really caught on in SF, since a) we already have a day to go topless, and it's called Dyke March, and b) the fight over public nudity in this town has not been limited to women's breasts.

It's unclear if any women were actually cited by Rec & Parks rangers on Sunday, but it looks like they were just shown the rules and regs and told to put their clothes on — and there weren't really enough of them to overwhelm the rangers or put up a fight.

LAist recently relayed the tale of how the Raëlian Movement — the fairly sexual, GMO-loving UFO cult founded in the early 70s by a French cab driver — was involved in founding Go Topless Day in 2007, which is organized in Venice Beach by a Raëlian every year essentially to protest laws that allow men to go shirtless but not women.

In New York on Sunday the event drew at least 50 topless women (as well as some dudes) who marched from Columbus Circle to Bryant Park where a horde of photographers awaited them.

Alas, in SF, there was no such rabid interest. Been there, seen that.

[Semi-NSFW] These Are The Real Painted Ladies Of San Francisco

"Painting on the body creates a special connection to a person that other visual art forms have trouble accomplishing" writes the artist.

Arts & Entertainment

body painting

landmarks

nudity

trina merry

Caleb Pershan

A set of trompe l'oeil body painting works by artist Trina Merry from her San Francisco Series: Visions in the Fog gives new meaning to the term "painted lady." As KQED reports, to make an entrance in her new city of New York (the artist also lives in San Francisco, hails from San Jose, and identifies herself as bi-coastal), Merry "decided to paint one model into the iconic New York City skyline. Just me, one model, my paints and camera, and the hope we don’t get arrested today,” says Merry.

Here in San Francisco, Merry arranged her models in a nod to Botticelli, Raphael, Manet and Matisse. These artists knew well the power of the naked body — perhaps, Merry posits, better than their modern day counterparts.

Expecting nudity, foul language, and at the very least a lot of jockstraps and bare asses, the general manager of local Fox affiliate KTVU has pulled the plug on its live coverage of this year's LGBT Pride parade on Sunday. Rich Lieberman just blogged about this development, saying that a source told him that GM Greg Kelly "wanted no part of the parade," at least insofar as they were planning to have a live stream of it on the web.

This would seem to be an odd choice especially given the momentous occasion that this Pride celebration has become, though it is often true that the parade has some scantily clad participants in it. Also, there is often a nudist contingent that brings up the rear. So to speak.

Kelly has not confirmed the decision on the record, and it's unclear whether anyone would have even noticed the loss of the live stream were it not for this tip. KTVU, like every other broadcast station in the area, will certainly run some sort of coverage of the parade on their Sunday broadcasts.

We'll await further comment from Kelly, if any is forthcoming.

Video: Muni Passenger Wearing Sock On Junk Empties Bus

When a man decided to ride Muni wearing just a sock, things got weird.

SF News

muni

nudity

nudity ban

sfmta

sfpd

socks

Eve Batey

1 California service was briefly delayed Thursday when a passenger removed all his clothing, covered his penis with a sock, and refused the leave the bus.

SF Weekly spoke with SFMTA spokesperson Paul Rose, who said that when the 19-year-old man disrobed, the bus driver put on the brakes and told the hosiery aficionado that he needed to hop off the vehicle.

When the man refused, as you can see in KTVU's "raw" (and, depending on where you work, perhaps a but NSFW) video below, police were called and the bus was evacuated.

When asked to get off the emptied bus by what appears to be a passerby, the nearly-nude man said "if I get off the bus the operator's gonna come on and leave, and I want to get this sorted out," before taking a seat in those reserved for the elderly and disabled and resuming a conversation with an SFPD officer.

Speaking directly to the KTVU cameraperson, the man said "I am not breaking any law. I got documentation from MTA yesterday through email. They say as long as my cock, balls, and genitals are covered, and my anus area, I'm legal."

It gets a little harder to hear what he says after that, but I'm pretty sure he said something about wearing a jock strap on either the 24 or the 44. Sounds fun.

However, the police apparently concurred with the man's legal argument, as, according to officer Albie Esparza, he wasn't arrested and eventually left under his own power.

On Sunday afternoon a gaggle of nude and partially nude cyclists gathered at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco to protest American oil dependency and their freedom to assemble peacefully without clothing. For the 2014 edition of the World Naked Bike Ride, genitalia was out there, stiff selfies were taken and pedals were pushed more than agendas. Mostly though, people seemed to just be hanging out in the buff.

Despite the city's high-profile, selectively enforced ban on public nudity, at this time it appears there were no arrests made during the event.
