Muni Service Restored Through Twin Peaks Tunnel

Muni service on the K, L, M and T lines through the Twin Peaks Tunnel was restored tonight at around 7:15 p.m., however shuttle buses continued to run in order to maintain "regular service." The system-wide delays (despite the fact that not all trains need that tunnel) related to a damaged antenna that was caused by this morning's derailed train, which affected the oft-troubled, automated train system, thus crippling the entire city. Meanwhile, N-line service will be interrupted again this weekend by track improvements which may or may not be done by Monday morning. ALSO, the L-train derailment happened in the exact spot of a similar 2006 derailment, which was allegedly fixed. Says Sunset district resident Mike Casey, as quoted on SF Gate, the process of diverting commuter traffic into shuttles at Castro station went relatively smoothly. "But," he says, "they've got to fix the underground." Yah. Understatement.

Beware the Muni Humper

This just in from The Muni Diaries: Be on the lookout for a young, short, "kind of squatty" dude on crowded N-Judah trains who likes to sidle up next to female passengers (or just their shoulders) and hump them like a dog. No word on the hair color or race of the assailant, just that he wears baseball caps and anime t-shirts and is probably not housebroken.

Secret Muni Delays Will Suprise and Infuriate You This Afternoon

Happening right now (as of 4:30 p..m), the N Judah is anticipating big delays. Getting home should be difficult, so riders should explore non-Muni methods of getting home.

N-Judah art in progress.

KTVU has some choice footage of last Saturday's Muni crash over on King Street near AT&T Park. Since major news networks inexplicably don't believe in the religion of Embedded Code, we are forced to link to it here. (Oh, and then you have to click on "RAW VIDEO: Watch Muni Surveillance Footage Shot On Trains Involved In Collision.") If some kind soul wants to upload or find us the same footage, YouTube- or Flickr Video-style, we'd be most appreciative. Forget KTVU and their pre-commercialed footage. Here it is uninterrupted!

When it's not playing bumper cars and sending passengers to the hospital, it's... well, not doing anything at all. The above shot was taken last night at the N-Judah platform at 4th and King streets.

Last Saturday's T-Third meets N-Judah collision might be, according to to investigators, might have been the result of a speeding Muni driver and/or someone chatting on their cell phone. KCBS reports:

An astonishing twelve passengers were sent to the hospital on Saturday after a T-Third train slammed into the back of a two-car N-Judah. The accident happened near AT&T Park on King Street between Third and Fourth streets, and none of the injuries were life-threatening. Allegedly.

Awhile back, Greg wrote that he didn't want The N Judah Chronicles to become the "let's all talk about people getting hurt and killed blog." Alas, the injury count seems to have gone up a tick today; Muni reports:

  • Tiger attack victims "yelled" at Tatiana. [SFGate]
  • SF Main Library re-opened its first floor. We had no idea that is was closed. Still, yay! [CCBlog]
  • Evacuating together. Aw. (Wasn't this an SNL commercial parody ages ago? With Phil Hartman and Victoria Jackson? Also: we're old.) [The Snitch]

N Judah Chronicles' Greg Dewar will not be pleased. And neither will the rest of you.

An elderly woman was struck by an outbound N-Judah this evening around 5:45 p.m. at 9th Avenue and Irving Street. Over at N-Judah Chronicles, fittingly enough, Greg Dewar was downing a pint at Blackthorn Tavern when the collision occurred.

Hey folks, we're back again with our favorites amongst the comments and opinions you, the readership, made about SFist's stories that ran the week of July 1. Despite the weird holiday schedule, there was plenty of excellent conversation.

We're reading on the Chron that unspecified "police action" between 25th and 30th Avenues in the Sunset has completely blocked the N Judah. MUNI is setting up buses between 19th and Sunset Blvd, and the buses will go down Kirkham.

--Have you checked out the footage (above, 4:34) of someone driving their Prius into the N Judah tunnel? The derisive laughter as the driver sheepishly gets out of the car is ) is genius. (We don't know how to get rid of those white edges on that YouTube screen.) [N Judah Chronicles.]

Let's see… big event? Check. Lots of people involved? Check? Lots of drunk people involved? Double check. Muni somehow screwing the pooch? Check, check, checkity check.

This is probably late for those of you already at the Phonebooth (it's 3-1 right now as another good starting pitching performance is being wasted by an anemic, Barry-less offense) but starting today, service to the ballpark is being changed. No longer will the N Judah take you to game, but the T Third line will. So expect to get there later than normal.

So we all know Muni is having some budget problems, mainly that in order to work the way they (and us) want it to work, they'll need more money, like $150 million dollars. But they also know that any sort of fare increase will only bring the wrath of God on them. What to do, what to do?

So in light of the recent homeless survey, the question everyone is asking is Col. Tigh? Really? And what's with "All Along the Watchtower?" Oh wait, that's "Battlestar Galactica." Where were we? Oh yeah, so the question everyone is wondering is what's with all the homeless people who came here from elsewhere?

While we were stuck in some really bad traffic this morning, we turned on the radio to get a traffic report and heard that we weren't the only ones having a rough commute

As of April 7, the N Judah will no longer be the MUNI metro train that will take you to the Caltrain station and the ballpark. That will now the J-Church and the new T-Third line.
