sfbg208.jpgLast week's two-peat winner, the Guardian: Angry, angry about the Village Voice's buyout of the New Times. Gavin Newsom -- in the pocket of the business community elites? Say it ain't so! Arlene Ackerman, bristling at public review? Say it ain't so! Annalee Newitz went to a Nick Denton party. Cover article: We're talkin' LO, LO, LO, L-O-V-E, LO, LO, LO. (Will Ashlee Simpson ever go away? That song's kinda catchy, though.) That teensy little restaurant on the corner of 18th and Mission, which is now Burmese food. Hey guys, when you roll over "cheap eats" on the homepage, it still says "Dan" Leone.) And hey, the sex columnist moved to the back! (the back of the weekly, that is.) The Metro: Radio radio. Something about a Neolithic goddess. Cover article: The science of pick-up artists. Jerk chicken. The Police tribute band Stung in Redwood City. Hyphy, the West Coast answer to crunk. The Asian Excellence Awards in Secret Asian Man. Hey, we totally had a good time watching those! C'mon, they were sponsored by XO! ...

Well, the cat's out of the bag about the new blog from Gawker Media. We've known for a while, but have been pretty good about keeping mum about it due to this SFist's work with Fleshbot. As PJ Corkery revealed Wednesday, it's going to be called Valleywag, and it's going to be helmed by the affable Nick Douglas, who's moving on from his post as editor at Blogebrity. Last night Spot-On's Chris Nolan held......

Ack. The camera broke. Far be it from the Trimethyldioxypurist to post a coffee shop review without a photo. Time for a bit of a screed. After the discovery of the holy grail of Bay Area coffee last week, it's a good time to sit back and take stock of why we do this. And how we go about it. Is it time for a change in format? After a mere three months? And......

SCAN_1_14_mug_fadebw-thumb.jpg This is sort of like if the native Americans in Mission Bay had noted on their blog Ohlonist that some crazy dude named Junipero Serra was having a party for his gang of buddies who called themselves "Catholics," but we feel obliged to announce that the Gawker Media juggernaut has boldly set foot on the frontier outpost that is San Francisco de Asis. New Gawker site Gridskipper will be covering "urban travel," or, in other words, providing reviews of various attractions in cities across the globe -- including SFist land. While they've only got reviews of hotels, the Columbus Cafe, and the Lusty Lady for now, how long will it be before they start covering topics like caffeine, bars, local music, and our hott mayor? Well, readers! Will our beloved publisher open the can of cityblog whoopass on Gothamist alum and Gridskipper editor Andrew Krucoff? What will What our sibling -ist blogs do? (What, no Chicago or Toronto?) Tune in next week, on As The Blog Turns. ...

SFist is a little miffed. We were forwarded a tip by the beautiful Jessica Coen, currently busy being paid to blog for Gawker, to a rather funny local Craigslist post. We're miffed because, of course, Gawker doesn't write about San Francisco - we do! Blonde, blue eyed homeless man! - w4m - 31 (mission district) You were pushing a shopping cart: I was in my car on York Street. We smiled…I guess it’s not......

660333.002.waiter.gifWe came late to this because we always save Leah Garchik for the bus ride home. Lo and behold, we have a (admittedly tame) blind item! Since we have no Nick Denton equivalent here on the Barbary Coast, we'd like to ask for your guesses. Email the editor and your confidentiality is assured. "That chic South of Market restaurant's doing fine with customers but not so well with the staff. At least two food servers are gone, I hear, because the boss asked whether they were amenable to being spanked." Of course it had to be a restauranteur. Who knows some waiters, owners or cooks in SOMA? We're dying to know! And if you're the staff in question, we know lawyers. We'll post the likely candidates later today....
