A 35-year-old suspect was arrested in Berkeley Monday morning after police received several reports of a man running naked down the street, smashing windows, and he was later found screaming and waving a shotgun inside the Tesla Service Center.

The Berkeley Police Department began receiving calls about the incident around 7:20 am Monday from residents reporting the man running naked down the street and breaking windows near Eighth and Gilman streets, as the Berkeley Scanner reports.

While police were en route, the department received additional reports that the man was seen entering the Tesla Service Center at 901 Gilman Street with a shotgun, which he reportedly pointed at people inside. According to authorities, as police were securing the perimeter, the suspect rushed outside screaming with the shotgun still in hand.

The suspect allegedly began charging at police officers who eventually restrained and handcuffed him. According to the Berkeley Scanner, police said no one was injured during the incident, but Tesla employees in the repair shop were in shock.

"It all worked out, but it could have gone differently," said spokesman Officer Byron White with the Berkeley Police Department.

Police obtained a search warrant for the suspect’s warehouse about a block away and reportedly found evidence of several gunshots inside the building. The suspect, identified as Edward Teece, 35, of Berkeley, was arrested and taken into custody.

The Alameda County District Attorney's Office charged Teece with discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, resisting arrest and two counts of assault with a firearm, and he’s being held at Santa Rita Jail on $175,000 bail, per the Scanner.

Based on Teece’s social media, he’s an angel investor in Berkeley who attended Ivy League schools on the East Coast.

Sunday afternoon, during the denouement of the annual Bay to Breakers festivities, a naked man reportedly jumped the fence at the bison paddock in Golden Gate Park and proceeded to taunt the bison in the nude. The bison were apparently unimpressed.

Supporters of San Francisco's right to get naked in public could show up at City Hall today when the Board of Supervisors give their final vote on the city's controversial nudity ban. On November 20, if you recall, the board approved Scott Wiener's anti-flesh item 6-5, which prompted some protesters to strip naked in response.

Supervisor Wiener's ordinance would make it illegal for anyone over the age of five to expose their genitals or perineum on public streets, sidewalks, street medians, parklets, plazas, or while riding public transit.

"If the approval is finalized, the ordinance would take effect on Feb. 1, 2013, although opponents have also filed a lawsuit seeking to block the legislation," reports SF Appeal. "The ordinance would set fines that start at $100 and rise for each additional offense within a year."

All Public Nudity Coverage on SFist

Here we go, folks. The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will vote today on a citywide ban on public nudity, a story that has captured national news media because nudity, public or otherwise, is sexy and funny. And loads of nude activists are expected brave today's chilly weather to protest Supervisor Scott Wiener's proposed legislation that, if passed, would make it illegal for anyone over the age of five to expose their genitals, or perineum on public street, sidewalk, street median, parklet, plaza, or while riding public transit. (Children ages four and under, however, are free to go naked.)

At the start of today's BOS meeting, however, no nude activists have arrived. Not yet, anyway.

The issue of public nudity has been an issue in the city's historically queer Castro District, a neighborhood that has seen its gay presence dwindle while families and tech ilk grow in alarming numbers. And with such change comes understandable ire at having to see well-worn scrotum sacs on a Saturday afternoon, right? Well, according to Supe. Wiener, many (and there are many) of the complaints come from single gay men who have lived in the neighborhood for decades.

The nudists are also in the process of fighting the proposed ban. Last week, San Francisco lawyer Christina DiEdoardo filed suit claiming the ban would "infringe on the nudists' right to free speech."

UPDATE: Nudity ban barely passes. The entire room has gone nuts, so to speak. More later. But this was just the first vote. Another vote is slated for next week.

San Francisco's tony (yet still gritty) neighborhood of choice, the Mission, saw a bit of the Castro drip down on it over the weekend in the form of white-hot public nudity. This nudies-on-bikes scene was snapped by noted Mission Mission photographer and contributor Ariel Dovas on Sunday.

A few choice Mission Mission comments regarding the brazen fleshiness? "White privilege in full effect! Try the same thing as latino man and watch the results," reasons blah. While Venture angrily chimes in, "I'm sick of em too and I live 500 miles away. I dig nude beaches and resorts but these fuckers are long in the tooth for sure. They need beatdowns." And "Bob Dole" says what we're all thinking with this gem, "I can’t imagine how nasty and smelly their bike seats must be. Grease stains anyone?"

Well then.

While you can debate the legalities and morality of urban public nudity in the comments, what most of us want to know is: why? Why be naked in public? One possible answer as to why some men (they're usually, though not always, men) feel the need to present themselves in public sans clothes in front of passersby came to us in last week's controversial post "Video: Castro Theatre Manager Goes Off On Nudists, Journalist," from SFist commenter MoistPup, who offered up the following explanation via parody:

"Hey, I'm sixty now and opportunities for sex sure are getting few and far between... but I've lived my whole life having sex nonstop every single day... how do I keep that train rolling? I know, nudism! It's just like I'm having sex, I'm hard, I've got my cock ring on, I'm naked, some other guys are there naked with me... and since this is really all about me and my desperate sex-starved cry for attention I don't have to actually care about the normal people in the area, especially if I couch it as an exercise in activism!"

George Davis, a transplant from Tennessee who once ran for mayor of San Francisco, likes to get naked in the Castro. And good for him. The Castro, famous for being the queer historic district, should allow their local scrotums and mammary glands, however droopy they may be, to flow freely. Davis and his fellow ecdysiasts parked their butts outside the Castro Theatre on Friday during the city's annual PARK(ing) Day. Speaking on-camera with Mike Skiff from Reel Gay TV and Third Rail Media, Davis explained that "nudity is not a crime" adding that "the only limitations on nudity [is] blue conduct." This is when things got ugly.

The Castro Theatre's manager, Keith Arnold, interrupted the interview with a clipboard, which he repeatedly tapped at the camera while trying to shield his face, and some terse words. Arnold reportedly forced the gaggle of nudists to move one store front down Castro street. "You can't film here out in front of the theater without a permit," he explained.

The situation turned more heated after the journalist asked Arnold, "Are you gay" and "are you tolerant of expressions of nudity?" Arnold's (admittedly sharp) reply? "I'm tolerant of kids not being exposed to cocks in their faces." And that there, folks, is the issue at hand in the entire to-bare-or-not-to-bare argument in San Francisco's District 8. As the neighborhood shifts (as neighborhoods often do) to a more family-friendly tone and mixed crowd, the battle between exposed butts and exposed toddler eyes wages on. We say let's have both, but, well, that would be too easy.

Anyway, the Reel Gay news cameraman Skiff filed a criminal complaint with the SFPD against the theater manager for his arguably menacing clipboard-tapping behavior. The nudists will surely return, probably as soon as this weekend and presumably with larger numbers.

Over the weekend, San Francisco hosted the annual World Naked Bike Ride. And naked it was, with private bits and pieces flopping about to and fro. But the ride is, it seems, more than showing off one's penis or vagina. According to World Naked Bike Ride, it's about the environment, oil, and all that jazz. Check it:

"To ride naked through our major city thoroughfares, expressways, downtown streets, boulevards, parkways, driveways, avenues, ways, lanes, alleys, drives and roads to draw attention to our worldwide issues and failures wrought upon our planet by the dependency on foreign oil supplies, the environmental & economic hardship that results from this monopoly of the oil cartel and the slow response of the automotive and transportation industries to provide more efficient and alternative sources of moving people and goods about."

On Saturday, candid cyclists gathered in San Francisco to take part in the World Naked Bike Ride. How did it go? Don't ask us. This editor is saddled with red hair and thus diaphanous skin. There's not high enough SPF in the world to get us on a bike at noon with our blinding, milky flesh on display for the world to see. Perish the thought. Immediately. However, according to worldnakedbikeride.org, the fleshy ride was a smash.

We had a sizable turnout, compared to last March, of 50 or more riders with a nice mix of genders and ages. It was a nice mellow group. Most of the riders went naked including several women despite the cold coastal breezes at times. When riding further from the coastline the weather was actually quite pleasant. This year we road traffic-heavy Van Ness Street, the main route to the Golden Gate Bridge. We received loads of smiles, laughs, thumbs ups, honks and cheers even when the group took up one entire lane of traffic. Most passengers in passing cars had their iPhones out taking pictures. The new route up and over Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world, was much better than last June. Most riders were able to ride to the top without walking. All-and-all a very successful ride.

The next World Naked Bike Ride goes down, if you will, on June 11, Saturday. at noon. Riders will meet at the north end of Justin Herman Plaza near Market and the Embarcadero, across from the Ferry Building.

For those of you not in the know, World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is billed as an "international clothing-optional bike ride in which participants plan, meet and ride together en masse on human-powered transport (the vast majority on bicycles, but some on skateboards, rollerblades and roller skates), to deliver a vision of a cleaner, safer, body-positive world."

At about dinnertime, an unexpected guest arrived at a home on the 700 block of Panorama Drive near Mount Sutro. A unknown man was ringing the doorbell, and when the resident looked out, he saw that the man at his door was nude.

The resident -- probably not amused -- called the cops to report the exhibitionist. Police patrolling the area went to investigate and found a 17-year-old Richmond resident, naked and roaming the streets.

The teen, who admitting to smoking mary jane, was taken to UCSF, "where his father came to bring him a shirt and pants." Read all about it.
