Muni Bus Rolls Over Woman's Arm, Keeps Going

A female cyclist was injured on September 14, on Broadway in North Beach, when her bicycle collided with an 8X bus and she was subsequently run over by its rear wheel. Muni and investigators are still trying to determine fault — cyclist Laila Brenner had changed lanes in order to avoid a double-parked car, and security-camera footage from the nearby Roaring 20s nightclub does not show definitively if the bus driver did anything wrong. But after rolling over Brenner's arm, the bus failed to stop and just drove on. more ›

Supervisors May Reject Muni's New Budget

The Board of Supes is holding a hearing tomorrow to decide whether to reject Muni's latest budget, which includes a City Charter-mandated 9% raise for union members on July 1, which totals about $9 million. Gavin's been fighting to make sure the union accepts some labor concessions (like the oft mentioned overtime pay issue) which would amount to about $9 million in savings, and therefore balance out the pay increases. more ›

Thumbs Up On Final Design For the Central Subway

Thumbs Up On Final Design For the Central Subway

Congratulations to the MTA are in order. It appears that the Federal Transit Administration has given the thumbs up for final design work to commence on the Central Subway project. In the works for near on 20 years, the much anticipated Central Subway will provide visiting conventioneers at the Moscone Center with quick, immediate access to Union Square shopping and fine dining in the heart of Chinatown (without, like, the actual hassle of a direct connection to those pee-smelling Market Street lines). Riders interested in transferring between the Central Subway and Muni's existing rail line will be welcome to walk through a 10,000 mile long underground tunnel between the Union Square and Powell Street stations. Exercise makes Muni patrons heart healthy! more ›

Muni Bus Lands in Bushes in Potrero Hill

Muni Bus Lands in Bushes in Potrero Hill

Last night at around midnight a 19-Polk bus collided with a small pickup truck at 18th and DeHaro and ended up off the road in some bushes. The driver of the pickup truck was seriously injured, and six of the passengers aboard the bus were injured and hospitalized as well (two more passengers were injured but not hospitalized). According to a cop on the scene, it did not appear that either the bus or the pickup had come to a stop at the four-way stop-sign intersection. Muni and the SFPD will, obviously, be investigating.
