Sad news, Moz fans: Morrissey has just announced that tonight's show at Oakland's Fox Theater has been cancelled due to a bandmate's injury. According to an email from Morrissey's publicist, his drummer has sustained an unfortunate eye injury.
Morrissey Cancels Tonight's Show At The Fox Theater
Morrissey Coming To Oakland
Former Smiths lead singer and avowed racist Morrissey will make a pitstop at the Fox Theater later this year. The (not so) sensitive crooner will appear with Kristeen Young at the Fox Theater on December 1st, with ticket prices ranging from $49.50 - $75.
SFist Reviews: Morrissey @ The Paramount, Oakland
Last night old Moz paid a visit to the Bay Area, and he didn't cancel the show or collapse on stage. That's the good news. Also for good news, he played a ton of old Smiths songs and seems to be keen on just giving the audience what it wants these days. The bad news is that The Paramount, while lovely, is a pretty shoddily run venue that can't even handle a not-sold-out show.
Moz Cancels Paramount Show
According to SF Weekly music scribe Gordie Young, an increasingly plump Morrissey canceled Saturday's show at the Paramount Theatre "due to illness." And his fans, who are already known for teetering on the brink, lost their collective shit all over Twitter. It seems this is the third Bay Area show he's canceled. (He also walked off stage at Coachella after smelling the savory scent of roasting meats. That, or the Moz spotted one of them there brown people and got scared.) Anyway, it turns out that in lieu of performing in Oakland, the former Smiths frontman wanted to hangout at a SOMA nightclub. (Could you blame him?) However, while kicking it at DNA Lounge, Young goes on to report, "at least one mildly perturbed fan arrived, took Morrissey's photo, and tried to 'express her displeasure to Moz about the canceled show.'" Soon after the mild confrontation between the two bruised souls, the icon left the club, presumably heading over to Chaps II where it was "Uniforms Night." (Could you blame him?) Bay Area Morrissey, however, fans will receive full refunds.
New Tunes Tuesday #19
Each Tuesday we will feature new music that should (or whatever) be on your radar.
Morrissey Bans Meat At The Fillmore
Morrissey is coming. And you know what that means? Clever lyrics, melancholia, and no tender morsels of tasty beef. Or chicken. Or even a Hot Pocket. Last month Leah Garchik mentioned that, "word from the Fillmore, where Morrissey is doing four shows at the end of September: 'Do not bring any meat to eat. He wants no meat whatsoever in the house!'" While we teeter on respecting the (privileged) choices of vegetarianism and veganism, this is harsh of Morrissey, inflicting such an inane house rule during his stay there.
SFist Tonight
-- The A’s: Oakland play at home against the Baltimore Orioles. Game starts at 7:05 p.m. at McAfee Coliseum; $9-$44.
SFist Blotter
This story about the Berkeley family killed in Tilden Park by the husband over business problems is so sad. Friends of the family describe the husband, Kevin Morrissey, as "brittle," "desperate," and as having a "very controlling side," though by all accounts deeply in love with his wife. The wife, Mamiko Kawai, is described as a wonderful doctor and the two girls as adorable. The CIA will neither confirm nor deny the husband's claims that he worked for them (hey, let's ask Bob Novak!). The husband bought the gun two months ago and complied with the mandatory waiting-period provisions before taking it home.
SFist Interviews Elka Karl of Kitchen Sink Magazine
As noted in this week's SF Weekly and SFist Rita's "We Read the Weeklies" column, the Bay Area's (and beyond) beloved Kitchen Sink—the magazine for people who think too much—is calling it quits this spring. Kitchen Sink is the latest of several independent publications to shut down due to the Independent Press Association's failure to fulfill its commitments before going under.
Before Kitchen Sink's proverbial well runs dry, they will be producing one last issue. But they need your help to do it! Stop on by Edinburgh Castle this Saturday night for their fundraiser, which will feature lots of bands and a raffle with prizes from Amoeba, the Believer and local artisans.

Sussing Out the Fuss
Few bands can believably be compared to Joy Division, the Cure, Duran Duran, and Echo and the Bunnymen. Especially if they are from Las Vegas. Yet The Killers, the newest indie dance sensation, not only consistently elicit such comparisons, they actually seem to live up to them. With only one major label release under their belts, the Killers were picked up by Morrissey to headline his band earlier this year.
