The Bay Area Reporter notes, "We're hearing reports that there has been a shooting at the Mission Dolores chapel this morning." We'll update as soon as we know more.
Fatal Shooting Outside Mission Dolores [Updated]
SFist Tonight
-- Judy Butterfield: Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, and more come to life via seventeen-year-old Judy Butterfield. Wait, she's seventeen and headlining at the Plush Room already? We were robo-tripping at that age. Christ, that's amazing. OK then. She sings at 8 p.m. at The Empire Plush Room, 940 Sutter; $25.
Fire on 16th Street
Man. Six people were injured, and around 64 people are homeless, after an early morning fire destroyed the big apartment building across the street from Mission Dolores on 16th Street. The firefighters rescued two women and two children from the third floor, where they'd been trapped between the fire on the second floor and the fire on the roof.
One guy, who made it out with only his computer, cat, and bike, said, "My friend called me to get the hell out of there, but I hooked up a garden hose to the sink and started pouring water until my hair started burning." He'd lived in the building for ten years.
Neither the Mission Dolores nor the synagogue across the street were damaged, due to the wind direction. 120 firefighters responded, and Fire Chief Joanne Hayes-White noted it was fortunate that none of the fire stations in the area were on brownout that evening.

SFist Reads
Some of our fondest childhood memories are those from our local library's summer reading club, which either makes you think that we are kinda sweet or total f**king nerds. Well, we're obviously not the only ones on staff who associate the warm weather with reading, because this is our biggest and best SFist Reads ever! Some of us reserved our books online, and others of us purchased what we're reading at one of our fine local independent bookstores, but all of us are reading until our tiny little blogger eyes fall out of our heads.
Stuff To Do If You're Bored
Through June 5th, the San Francisco International Arts Festival will present fantastic art from around the world. Events will be held across The City. Our spy at Project Artaud Theater tells us: "The Akhe group flown in from Russia sounds crazy: the techs have been complaining about whiskey and a big mess on the stage." Sounds like our kind of modern dance performance! Their "White Cabin" show is 4:30pm this afternoon, 7pm tomorrow, and 4:30pm on Sunday.
Our Lady of Sadness
Barbara Boxer has gotten the Senate -- unanimously, no less -- to pass the California Missions Preservation Act, which will create a new nonprofit agency charged with upkeep for the 21 missions in the state and dedicate $10 million to the agency over a five-year period. This of course includes San Francisco's own pride and joy, the Mission Dolores.
