Speaking of Boing Boing, they have word that Electronic Frontier Foundation - the "first line of defense" in our right to free speech, privacy, awesome innovation, and consumer rights - is having a birfday party. For those of you unfamiliar with EFF, ahem: Blending the expertise of lawyers, policy analysts, activists, and technologists, EFF achieves significant victories on behalf of consumers and the general public. EFF fights for freedom primarily in the courts, bringing......

Laughing Squid’s Last Minute Unholiday Party: Scott Beale and the gang will be having a most splendid post- and un-holiday party/experiment with social media. Although LS will be "providing some beer and buying pizza, but please feel free to bring some more beer, wine, leftover holiday food, etc." The mood is low-key and geek-filled, and we mean that in the best possible way. Starts at 7 p.m. at Citizen Space. Ben-Hur (1959): Not only......

-- "Punk Rock Karaoke": Damnit all to hell. We can't believe that we have to miss this: members of the Adolescents, Bad Religion, and NOFX perform live while "singers" drunkenly slur along, karaoke-style. But you shouldn't miss it! Starts tonight at 9 p.m. at 111 Minna Gallery; $10. -- Red Poppy Art House Holiday Exhibit & Art Sale: According to the Poppy, "this show will feature works from such artists as Addie Shevlin, Todd......

At the behest of those who know better, we skipped the decidedly lame Media Bistro mixer occupying half of 111 Minna Gallery for the Dirt Press lauch party situated on the other side of the space. Founded in Brooklyn, circa 2003, as a collaborative effort between a small cache of artists and writers, Dirt Press began as an online journal of arts and letters, published thrice yearly. The entire operation became bi-coastal following Editor-in-Chief......

Our concert picks for the week of 3/31 - 4/6. Just when we thought the concert onslaught would never stop, it has started to slow down. Whether the aftermath has left you nursing a hangover or celebrating new musical discoveries, there's no doubt that spring has already sprung. On Thursday night, Popscene opens early to screen Morrissey's latest DVD "Who Put The 'M' In Manchester," followed by a live set by The Vacation. DNA Lounge......

We've already broken our New Year's resolution to not be late anymore, but we can still rally to see more live music in '05. Things remain a bit askew during this first week of January (holiday parties are still happening?) but there are many musical options if you need to get out and about. Or as those kooky Canadians like to say, oot and aboot. Groove is in the heart tonight down at the 111......

That time of month again, and this time we'll suggest the following shows for a little art therapy: Start your night by dropping by the Lisa Dent gallery from six to eight in Soma for Flo McGarrell's refined post-industrial sculpture. With womb-like spaces that explore curvature and symmetry, and the use of fabrics in a structural composition, she creates light sculpture that appears to have great weight and substance. SFist likes Lisa Dent because they......
