Did you miss us last week? Here are our excuses: we caught a cold, had a birthday, and were up to here with work at our dayjob, for real. We're back now and anxiously awaiting a copy of Or, the Whale's brand new CD Light Poles and Pines to arrive in our mailbox. The few songs we've previewed on their site offer up banjo, steel guitar, and a chorus of male and female vocals......

Yesterday afternoon, friendly blogneighbor Cedric wrote in to point out a glaring slight: on Out Magazine's list of 50 important gays, there seem to be zero San Franciscans. What! Zero! Of all the nerve! (At least, we think it's zero ... after the twenties, we're a little foggy on some of those names. Like, Ingrid Sischy? Who?) But how dare they! Of all the oversights! How could they possibly have overlooked such local gay......

Did anyone go see G n F'n R last night? Guns N' Roses, we mean. Apparently they're rocking the Warfield for two nights with opener Sebastian Bach. Our younger self is dying inside because this was our dream concert about 12 years ago, and here we are writing about music and somehow we don't have tickets. If you went, please tell us about the show in the comments so that we can all live vicariously.......

From their release: Filmmakers Peaches Christ and Vinsantos created the event as a direct response to their own films being rejected from "legitimate" local film festivals The programmers proudly present over-looked and underrated local talent.......

Our concert picks for the week of 4/21-4/27. If you're in the mood for something different tonight, Grupo Fantasma plays their genre-busting Tejano at Red Devil Lounge, or check out three new buzz bands, Dogs Die in Hot Cars, Phoenix and Joy Zipper, at Great American. Popscene is giving away free copies of the Dandy Warhols/Brian Jonestown Massacre documentary DIG! in honor of a performance by Joel Gion's new project The Dilletantes. Toots and the......

There are a couple of unusual spikes on this week's live concerts chart, with Sunday and Tuesday giving the weekend nights a run for their money. Tuesday can't come soon enough because we've got tickets to Eisley on the release date of their debut record Room Noises! See what the buzz is about after the jump. Tonight marks the kickoff of the 6th Annual San Francisco Bluegrass and Old-Time Festival, which runs through February 13th.......

We've already broken our New Year's resolution to not be late anymore, but we can still rally to see more live music in '05. Things remain a bit askew during this first week of January (holiday parties are still happening?) but there are many musical options if you need to get out and about. Or as those kooky Canadians like to say, oot and aboot. Groove is in the heart tonight down at the 111......
