As SFist reported back in February, Corie Woods, an avid member of the Bay Area music community who shared her love for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival on SFist, died unexpectedly at the age of 34. Her friends and family have organized an all-ages, family-friendly memorial concert that will take place at Bottom of the Hill on Sunday the 22nd. The line-up features lots of prominent musicians, including Chris Guthridge, Paula Frazer, members of Loquat, Eric Shea, and many more.

Photo: Oikos University Four Days After Shooting Massacre
An unidentified man carries flowers outside Oikos University moments before a noontime memorial is scheduled to take place. It's been four days since suspected gunman and former student One Goh walked into the Christian university and shot 10 people, killing 7. Goh stands accused of killing Tshering Rinzing Bhutia, 38, of San Francisco; Katleen Ping, 24, of Oakland; Judith Seymour, 53, of San Jose; Lydia Sim, 21, of Hayward; Sonam Choedon, 33, of El Cerrito; Grace Eunhea Kim, 23, of Union City; and Doris Chibuko, 40, of San Leandro.
Rest In Peace, Corie Woods
SFist was saddened to hear that Corie Woods, the author of this week's SFist Memoirs article paying tribute to the late Warren Hellman and his Hardly Strictly Bluegrass legacy, passed away suddenly on Wednesday. She was 34. Born and raised in the East Bay, Corie was a huge part of the Bay Area music community now reeling from the loss.
Homeless Deaths Memorialized Tonight At Civic Center
The Coalition on Homelessness, San Francisco Network Ministries, and the general public will gather tonight to honor those who died while homeless. The memorial will happen at 5:30 p.m. at Civic Center Plaza across from City Hall. "The memorial is traditionally held on the winter solstice because, according to organizers, it represents the coldest, darkest time for the homeless population," notes BCN.

Apple Posts Entire Steve Jobs Memorial Online
Filmed on October 19 at the Cupertino headquarters, Apple posted the entire Steve Jobs memorial on their site. It's available on Safari, so if you're using Chrome (like any rational, clear-thinking person) or Firefox, you can't view it just yet. However, if you're on a Mac, go to your "recent items" and click on the oft-ignored Safari icon to see Al Gore and Tim Cook talk about the fallen Apple visionary. You can also watch Gwyneth Platrow's husband's band perform a song in honor of Steve Jobs, among other notables moments.
Photos: Opening Day At The National 9/11 Memorial
Meanwhile, in New York City: The National September 11 Memorial & Museum at the World Trade Center site opened today to the public. According to Gothamist, who made an appearance at this morning's somber opening, "Admission is free, but you need to sign up online for reservations, which are almost completely snatched up through the end of October." Here are some images from this morning's press tour, before the gates officially opened to the public.
Hog And Rocks Memorial-Fundraiser For Slain Chef
Much to the horror (and, sadly, delight) of the San Francisco food scene and beyond, Gaspar ‘Tio’ Puch-tzek, a line cook at Hogs and Rocks, was shot and killed outside the Mission restaurant last month. This Saturday, September 17, the noted restaurant will hold a memorial/fundraiser for the slain chef. The day will include food, a silent auction, and find memories.

Scenes From a Gaza Memorial/Protest at Union Square
Yesterday in San Francisco's Union Square, many people gathered at the Gaza Memorial, Interfaith Service, and Candlelight Vigil to remember the some 1,400-plus men, women and children killed in the attack on Gaza. The vigil appeared to lack the usual fetishism that befalls SF protests -- due in part to many residents being back at their parents' estates or traveling abroad to celebrate the holidays -- the protest seemed a peaceful and effective one.
Photos: Outer Richmond Veterans Memorial / Cat Sanctuary
In the Outer Richmond, just down from the Veterans Hospital on 44th Avenue and Clement, there's a makeshift veterans memorial the doubles as a cat sanctuary. A guy who lives either nearby or in the blue truck that is always parked near it crude memorial cares for the tiny plot of land and several stray cats who rely on the food, water, and shelter that sits next to the bevy of angel and lion statures, flags, potted flowers, and Iwo Jima painting.

Fallen OPD Officer to Get I-580 Honor
The California State Assembly introduced la bit of legislation, one that would "designate a portion of Interstate Highway 580 in unincorporated Alameda County as the Sgt. Daniel Sakai Memorial Highway in honor of the Oakland police officer who was slain in March, " according to reports. Conceived by Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi, D-Hayward, a strip of Highway 580 between East Castro Valley Boulevard and Strobridge Avenue. "By naming this section of Highway 580 after Sergeant Sakai, we have the opportunity to pay tribute to his courage, and forever be inspired by the heartfelt dedication and strong values he demonstrated throughout his life," said Hayashi. Sakai and three of his brethren, as most of you recall, were violently gunned down by Lovelle Mixon in March. After raping at least two women the day before and going on a murder spree, Mixon was, thankfully, in turn shot to death by OPD officers.

SF Zoo Reopens Tomorrow Boasting Memorial, New Features
The morbidly curious, a smattering of animal enthusiasts, and, of course, the media will line up to get into the SF Zoo when it reopens to the public at 10 a.m. tomorrow. In addition to a Tatiana-free environment, zoo visitors will also notice a few other changes. For instances, new signs reminding visitors that they are "guests in the [animals]" and not to "tap on glass, throw anything into the exhibit, make excessive noise, tease or call out to them." (We can't imagine to whom they're referring.) Also, reinforced-glass will make its debut in the tiger grotto, as well as loudspeakers telling visitors to scram come closing time.
Tatiana the Tiger's Official MySpace Memorial Page
Where to begin? Well, for starters, the page's score set to The Lion King's eleventh-hour song "Circle of Life." While we tend to loathe music set to any page on the webs, this is fitting. And touching. But Tatiana's official postmortem MySpace page offers more than just Elton John-manufactured teardrops. You can find informative links to such items as the transcript to Nancy Grace's show on the tiger attacks, a makeshift memorial of sorts, and more. (Also, according to the site, Tatiana was a Cancer, the moodiest astrological sign of them all. Just saying.)
