escapesq.jpgChristopher Wilson, The kid who was driving the getaway car in the strange shooting of Dartmouth student Meleia Willis-Starbuck in Berkeley after a confrontation with several Cal football players this summer pled no contest to felony accessory to murder, and will testify against shooter Christopher Hollis. Wilson faces up to three years in prison. The facts of the situation that night get murkier and murkier, with people saying that Willis-Starbuck was "amped" and that she announced "That's my little brother right there" as the first shot was fired. For his part, Wilson says Hollis proudly said, "I just scared them cats away" after they took off, not realizing that he had shot his friend. Folks who can't just let the past be the past up in Marin -- a recently-graduated senior from San Marin High school pled guilty to causing $140,000 damage to his alma mater by turning on all the fire hydrants and releasing about a million gallons of water, which flooded the library, while another man was arrested for violating a stay-away order and kidnapping his ex-girlfriend on the campus of Dominican College in San Rafael. Fellas, you just gotta move on! And a man quietly eating an early lunch on Pier 28 (probably at Red's Java House) on Wednesday morning looked out over the beautiful blue bay and saw.... a floating dead body. Aaaaagh! Authorities are trying to identify the body, a 5'8" male weighing 175 pounds and approximately 25-40 years old. ...and after the jump, a summary of all your Blotter photos since November. Previous summaries here, here, and here....

crackers.jpg Christopher Hollis, the friend who shot Dartmouth student Meleia Willis-Starbuck over the summer in Berkeley while possibly trying to help her resolve a street harassment situation involving players on the Cal football team, was finally brought into custody over the weekend after two months of searching. Hollis was found in Fresno, where his 33-year-old girlfriend was stopped for a routine traffic violation. He gave the cops a fake name, but Fresno's finest figured out it was him and sent him back to Alameda County for arraignment. The woman burned in the PG&E transformer explosion last month has filed suit. Lisa Nash suffered third-degree burns and a broken arm in the accident, and is still in the hospital. PG&E grovels for forgiveness. (Their spokesman said: "We're very sorry she was injured by our equipment in this explosion. We want her to know ... that PG&E is going to do the right thing for the family. We've offered to pick up the cost of all her medical treatment and her full recovery.") And they're splitting the chili pot two ways -- after some contention about who was entitled to the $100,000 reward that Wendy's put up for information about the finger that got into Anna Ayala's chili, Wendy's has announced that $50,000 is going to the man in Las Vegas who said that the finger belonged to an employee at his construction company, and another person who wants to remain anonymous. Anonymous? Joe Klein, you really do know everything! ...

raising cain.jpg Thanks to SFist Jackson for holding down the Blotter fort in our absence! The Meleia Willis-Starbuck investigation continues to develop, as the Alameda County DA's office confirms reports that Willis-Starbuck was heard on a cell phone telling the murder suspect, her close friend Christopher Hollis, to come help her break up an argument and to "bring the heat." Hollis came over immediately, with possibly up to three other people in the car. The driver, Chris Wilson, is out on bail, which was put up by his best friend's family. One other man in the car has been reported to have fled to Panama, and the other passenger, a woman, reportedly panicked at the sight of a gun and got out of the car before anything happened. Hollis is still in hiding, though friends and family have begged him to turn himself in. Several local attorneys report having gotten frightened phone calls from him but don't know where he is. In other Berkeley news, a man who was reportedly mentally disturbed rammed his SUV through the window of the Starbucks on Solano and Colusa on Tuesday. Numerous witnesses had gotten down all his information but it turned out it wasn't really necessary because, what with all the ramming, his entire front bumper fell off, complete with license plate. A store employee interviewed after the crash told a reporter, "I cannot talk to you. I am loyal to my company." See, it totally pays to give health insurance to your part-time employees! And back across the bay -- remember the doctor who was found killed in Diamond Heights with cherry pits around his body, but the DA's office refused to charge the leading suspect with murder until the DNA results came back from the cherry pits, even though they found the suspect driving the doctor's missing car? Well, the DNA results are back, and the cherry pits did indeed have the suspect's DNA on them, so the DA will now charge. ...

impact.jpg Crime doesn't pay, guys. The man who was shot at Van Ness and Post a few days back? He was wanted for murder. This other guy who got hit by a car on 101 Saturday night? Wanted for bank robbery. And a guy fleeing the cops after a traffic stop? Drowned in the bay. Creepy! New developments in the murder of Meleia Willis-Starbuck: the Berkeley police are now saying their theory of the case is that two friends of Willis-Starbuck's accidentally shot her while trying to help her break up a fight. The shooter is alleged to be one of Willis-Starbuck's friends from high school, with whom she felt so close that she called him her brother. The man driving the getaway car is another friend of Willis-Starbuck's, and has already turned himself in. There will be a memorial for Willis-Starbuck later today. And finally, the "Bag Lady Bandit," who was that woman who's been holding up supermarket bank branches, was finally caught, when sharp-eyed workers at a tribal gambling casino recognized her. They let her play 9 hours of slots before arresting her. ...

chuchu.jpg Berkeley mourns a local standout, shot walking home with a group of friends to her summer sublet apartment on the Cal campus after a party last weekend. Meleia Willis-Starbuck, who had gone to high school in Berkeley, was volunteering at the Women's Drop-In Center on her summer break from Dartmouth. She and her friends had gotten in an argument with a group of boys on Saturday night over their use of the word "bitch," and Willis-Starbuck asked if they would call their mother that name. The boys apologized and they all left on good terms, but a few blocks later, at Dwight and College, someone drove up to them and fired shots into their group, killing Willis-Starbuck. The Berkeley Police are requesting that anyone with information give them a call. In other news, a backpack stuffed into an Onion distro box caused a 90 minute bomb squad search at the Powell Street MUNI/BART stop. The backpack turned out to be no big deal, after the bomb squad blew it up. And wow, a lot of accidents on I-80 in the last few days. One at Ashby, one at Powell (the IKEA exit), and one in Fairfield. Don't cut off tractor trailers, folks! ...
