HP Hires Meg Whitman

HP Hires Meg Whitman

As SFist mentioned yesterday, Hewlett-Packard went ahead and hired former Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman as their new CEO. The HP board went ahead and fired Leo Apotheker after just 11 months on the job. Prior a disastrous bid for California--she wasted "a record breaking $43 per voter to lose the California gubernatorial election," notes Ryan Tate--Whitman was once the CEO at eBay. She also once famously (and allegedly) shoved one of her employees. more ›

HP to Hire Meg Whitman?

HP to Hire Meg Whitman?

Oh joy, this should be fun. Former gubernatorial candidate and EBay ruler Meg Whitman might (might!) land a new gig as Hewlett-Packard's CEO. The company's board will soon meet to discuss whether or not to oust Leo Apotheker as chief executive officer. And Whitman, it seems, is a possible successor! more ›

Portola Valley: As Close to S.F. as Mitt Romney Would Like to Be

Noted teetotaler and Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney was in the Bay Area for what one of his volunteers called "a low key" fundraiser yesterday. But the strong-jawed former missionary didn't make it up to the city to convert the liberal tribes of San Francisco. Romney's event consisted of a downhome backyard barbecue and game of whiffle ball at the Portola Valley home of Sun Microsystem's CEO Scott McNealy. more ›

Meg Whitman Might Still Owe Her Housekeeper Some Money

One-time gubernatorial hopeful Meg Whitman will be heading to court this morning in San Jose, where her former housekeeper Nicky Diaz-Santillan is seeking some back pay for jobs she performed outside of her housekeeping duties. Diaz-Santillan, you'll remember was unceremoniously fired when Whitman decided to make a play for Sacramento and is represented by "Discrimination Attorney/Feminist Lawyer" Gloria Allred, who has already scheduled a post-game news conference for today. more ›

Number Crunching the Whitman and Fiorina "Ego Trips"

Over the weekend, Gail Sheehy over at the Daily Beast posted a piece that takes Meg Whitman and Carly Fiorina to task over their expensive, failed campaigns. (And also Linda McMahon, but we're talking California here.) Instead of taking cheap shots at the candidates endorsed by Mama Palin herself, Sheehy calls out Meg and Carly for what turned out to be "mostly about ego" for the candidates who did their best to seem selfless, matronly and concerned with the well-being of their fellow Californians (and their kids, obviously.) more ›

Meg Whitman Endorsed by... This Guy?

Meg Whitman Endorsed by... This Guy?

Whoops, Meg Whitman's Press Secretary Sarah Pompei made a twitter gaffe (nope, not calling it a "twaffe") earlier this week when she retweeted a link intending to lead her followers to a blog post about an endorsement from the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. As reported by Mediaite, Pompei's retweet lopped the last letter off of one of those tricky bit.ly URLs and ended up pointing Meg2010 supporters to this video of a man with a bass guitar dressed in a sexy princess outfit, complete with ruffled underoos, excitedly playing along (or at least pretending) with a J-pop song in his bedroom. Video embedded after the jump. more ›

Meg and Jerry Duke it Out at Final Gubernatorial Debate

Meg and Jerry Duke it Out at Final Gubernatorial Debate

We might not have gotten that radio debate last week, but it sounds like the boxing match at the final gubernatorial debate in San Rafael last night made for better visuals anyway. According to Bay City News, reporting on the Appeal, Meg and Jerry danced around each other as they tossed out "less-than-memorable one-liners." Among those one-liners were Whitman's desire to "bring that California dream alive," which Jerry seemed to infer she only intended to do for her wealthy friends. more ›

Brown Still Has Plenty of Money Left in Campaign Coffers; Whitman, Not So Much

According to new campaign finance reports, Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman is swiftly running out of money, while Jerry Brown still has plenty with which to run attack ads between now and November 2nd. Per the Chron: "Whitman, the former CEO of eBay, had spent more than $140 million on her campaign as of Sept. 30, compared with Brown's $10.8 million... [that leaves Brown] with $22.6 million left in the bank, compared with $9.2 million for Whitman." Meg is sure going to be pissed/sad if she loses, having dumped $119 million of her own cash into this. more ›

Brown-Whitman Radio Debate Cancelled

Brown-Whitman Radio Debate Cancelled

A radio debate between gubernatorial candidates Jerry Brown and Meg Whitman, which was scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. on the Ronn Owens' show, has been cancelled. La Marinucci reports that the two candidates decided to squash the "discussion" by "mutual agreement,'' and not because of the Whitman campaign's spectacular implosion. (Because time spent debating issues is time not spent wasting money and abusing eBay employees and illegally-hired maids. And time spent... um, yeah, we don't have anything bad to say about Brown just now. Whitman seems increasingly atrocious by comparison. Alas.) [Chron] more ›

Meg Whitman Knew About Illegal Employee?

Meg Whitman Knew About Illegal Employee?

Although gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman said on Tuesday that she fired Nicky Diaz Santillan, her overly emotional maid, the moment he informed her that she was an illegal immigrant, that might not be the case. According to Sacramento Bee, "A lawyer for Meg Whitman's former housekeeper this afternoon released what she said is a 2003 letter from the Social Security Administration with Whitman's husband's handwriting on it, a measure to refute Whitman's claim she never received such a letter or knew the housekeeper was in the country illegally." Whitman, for her part, said she would take a polygraph test to prove her innocence. [Sacto Bee] more ›

Meg Whitman's Son Physically Abuses Women

Like mother, like son. California gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman's underwear skidmark of a son, Griffith Rutherford Harsh V, was arrested back in 2006 for assaulting a woman in Palo Alto, resulting in her broken ankle. Gawker has exclusive word that--after 22-year-old Valerie Sanchez insulted his fraternity, told him to "fuck off," and knocked the baseball cap off his head--Griff pushed the mouthy broad with two open hands on her chest and shoulder area. She fell down, her ankle snapped. more ›

Meg Whitman To Testify In Craigslist-eBay Deal Today

Meg Whitman, Former eBay Chief Executive and current Republican contender for governor is expected to testify in Delaware today about the original deal between Craigslist and eBay, both bay area based organizations. If you recall, EBay sued Craigslist in April 2008, claiming that its 28% stake in Craigslist was illegally diluted to 24% -- this kept eBay from electing a board member. Craigslist then countersued claiming eBay used confidential information to create its own competing classified website, Kijiji. (Amy Crocker) more ›

Meg Whitman Officially Announces Her Gubernatorial Bid

If elected, the former eBay CEO -- a bigot who, at best, considers the homosexuals second-class citizens, or at least that's what she would lead the public to believe -- will cut state spending "by another $15 billion," prune California's current state work force "by 17 percent," and further the stereotype that female Republicans must sport garish blonde hair in order to be successful. Welcome to the race, Meg! more ›
