Ed Lee Wins First Round In SF Mayor's Race

Ed Lee Wins First Round In SF Mayor's Race

With the people's candidate John Avalos trailing behind, interim Mayor Ed Lee came in first after last night's votes were counted--due in part to absentee ballots filed before election night--but failed to hit the sweet 50-percent mark, so the ranked-choice voting system will now decide the winner. Over the next two weeks, the Department of Elections will count voters' second and third place votes. The first candidate to score enough majority votes will be named the city's new mayor. more ›

Until then, your SFist editor will make himself a vat of french onion soup (why not?) and mainline contraband Pseudoephedrine (we're a tad under the weather) before heading out to a couple of election night parties (hint: one will involve a former mayor and MC Hammer). We'll update sporadically throughout the night with the results. more ›

Political Posters Defiled Day Before Election Day

Political Posters Defiled Day Before Election Day

On the day before Election Day, posters for Mayor Ed Lee (who, according to Bay Citizen, has a more-than-decent shot of winning), Chris Cunnie, and George Gascon are defaced with Occupy Wall Street-esque flair. While we can neither confirm nor deny the en vogue 1% accusations, we can report that the mood has officially turned ugly. Well done, San Francisco. more ›

Of Mr. Dufty's many accomplishments, the most pressing and remarkable has to be the fact that his godmother was Billie Holiday. Which, jealous. We sure are. Remember when we were flush with cash and we decided to go on this spending binge and Chris Daly got into a fight with everyone because he wanted to spend the money his way and not everyone else's way? Well goodbye to all that because Gavin announced that we know have a whopping $229 million dollar deficit. more ›

More On That Crazy Sean Penn Story

Anyways, Sean saw this, failed to see any humor in it, and made his offer to be the money bags to everyone's favorite "hunky-hipster attorney". Again, we don't know if this is true or what the what is with the story. It could be a joke, a crazy rumor, or something Sean and Matt jokingly talked about while drinking some wine and discussing the finer points of Costas Gravas's L'Aveu. more ›

TourkGate: So What Happens Next?

TourkGate: So What Happens Next?

Well, that was certainly a mortified apology and a hasty retreat.
