Bill Swerboski records a recent John Brown's Body show at the Warfield, in case you missed it. Eddie Codel munch on liquid-nitrogen cooled vittles prepared by Marc Powell at Dorkbot. And Jen Maiser just got back from the Eco-Farm Conference, and links to an article by an enterprising farmer-gardener in Watts of all places.

Ian over at WULAD must have smoked some Ombuds before deconstructing some political graffiti. Dinah Sanders explains her votes in the election -- before a new TV campaign from Herr Governator can get to her. In a mood to protest, but not to get off the couch? The UK brings us two technologies to let folks tele-protest via SMS.
BarCamp 2005
It all started on Thursday night when Andy Smith, celebrating his birthday at the Beauty Bar and wearing a bathrobe, asked if we were going to BarCamp. "Uh, sure," was the reply, not really knowing what we were signing up for. By Friday afternoon we had completely forgotten about it when we got an IM from Min Jung Kim telling us to get ready, as she was leaving for Palo Alto in an hour. So we checked out the Wiki, grabbed our tent, and prepared ourselves for, you know, whatever. Heck, it's not every day you get to pitch a tent in downtown Palo Alto.
Bay Blogger Thursday
We love this town, because it sucks talent from the hinterlands like a sponge. Okay, we kid. But a relatively recent arrival to the Bay is Matt Mullenweg, AKA PhotoMatt, AKA WordPress Matt, AKA Ping-O-Matic Matt...you get the idea. He's a talented mofo.
Get Ur Geek On
Matt Mullenweg is calling it the "Blogger" Harlem photo, and man, is that a bunch of beautiful geeks. We despatched one of the cuter SFists to the fete, but next time we'll have to give him a little media training -- lesson one: "How to elbow your way to the front of a group photo, babies be damned."
Woe Is Wordpress
We'd like this post to be a celebration of the work done by David Sifry and all our friends at Technorati, who recorded their billionth link tracked today. In 2002, David "Wanted to know when somebody said something about me," and eventually helped develop one of our favorite tools for searching the web in real time. Technorati helped change the conception of the web as the "world's biggest library" into something dynamic and relevant. 35,000 new bloggers signed up last month, at an average of one new blogger every three seconds. Unfortunately, some recent events overshadowed the festivities.
Wordpress, Incorporated
We're here at the Odeon at the behest of Matt Mullenweg, who, besides celebrating over a hundred thousand Wordpress downloads, announced today the formation of Wordpress, Inc. Wordpress is the free, open-source blogging solution that promises a great user interface and less server load and comment/trackback spam than MoveableType (though we assume that as Wordpress takes over marketshare, the spammers will take note). Granted, we're a bit biased -- we love publishing SFist using MoveableType, but after hearing all the great things that Wordpress offers are looking for an excuse to put a WP install on our personal web host [].
Creative Commonists
It's good to be a nerd. At least that's how SFist feels after hanging out at the Swedish American Hall, taking full advantage of the open bar, nodding our head to the DJ's beats, nibbling on tidbits from the trays of finger food and stuffing our bag with schwag at the Creative Commons party last night. Intellectual property lawyers sure know how to party!
