While fans of Method soap and Paul Frank bedding patiently await the arrival of San Francisco's first Target store, still slated to open in the Metreon sometime in the fall of 2012, the San Francisco Planning Commission has approved a permit to build another location of the discount retailer in the largely deserted City Center shopping complex at Geary and Masonic.

Hit-and-Run Kills 55-Year-Old Man at Masonic and Turk
A hit-and-run incident claimed the life of a 55-year-old man at Masonic and Turk last night. The Chronicle reports: "The series of crashes began at about 2:30 a.m. when the suspect, Jose Jimenez, 23, of San Francisco, ran down a 55-year-old man crossing Masonic Avenue at Turk Boulevard." Jimenez was allegedly drunk at the time of the crash. This is the second time in less than a year that a car accident claimed a life at the notorious intersection. Last August, German tourist Nils Linke, 21, was killed at Masonic and Turk by a hit-and-run incident.
German Cyclist's Death Determined Vehicular Homicide
The Examiner writes that the autopsy report investigating the death of 22-year-old visiting German student Nils Yannick Linke, who was killed in a hit and run in August, was recently released. His death was determined to be the result of vehicular homicide, and 36-year-old Josh Calder, who allegedly ran him over, then fled the scene after switching seats with his girlfriend, is scheduled to appear in court this week to discuss the report.
Car vs. Bike Collision at Fell and Masonic Intersection
SFCitizen reports, "A small Ford Focus ZXW station wagon collided with a cyclist at the intersection of Fell and Masonic this afternoon." And, judging by the photos of the accident scene, it looked like a doozy. The "fixie had its fork torn in two" and the Ford's window and hood are smashed in. No word yet on the condition of the cyclist.
Unauthorized Trader Joe's Commercial
Forgive us if you're one of the almost 500,000 who've seen it already... we hadn't, and it was shot in our very own Trader Joe's on Masonic on some guy's Palm Treo. It's a cute little ditty set to the tune of Jobim's "Waters of March," and we especially like the references to the over-small parking lot and the "twelve kinds of of soy milk that all taste the same." But what's that about "a snort, a sniff..."? Is TJ's selling cocaine now?
Bike / SUV Crash at Fell and Masonic
Late this morning at around 10:45 a.m., there was a bike-car accident at Fell and Masonic. According SFIst reader Alex, it "seems like a Range Rover hit a bicyclist at the intersection. The fact that this happened after the new signals is just horrid."
UPDATE: Westbound Lanes of the Masonic Tunnel Closed Temporarily

Not News: Masonic Still A Mess
On one of our runs the other day through the Panhandle, we slowed down at the intersection at Masonic to make sure that no cars were careening towards us to take a left from Fell to Masonic. We always run east at that particular intersection - it's the only way you can make sure to see any potentially homicidal vehicles, as the view going the other way is always blocked by parked cars.
