Hey, rabid iPad fans, get ready to change your pad for one that's clearer, crisper, and thinner. According to All Things D, Apple will announce the iPad 3 (or, worse, the iPad 2S) in the first week of March. "Sources say the company has chosen the first week in March to debut the successor to the iPad 2, and will do so at one of its trademark special events. The event will be held in San Francisco, presumably at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Apple’s preferred location for big announcements like these."

Apple Astounds With Record Revenue
Apple reports its highest quarterly revenue and earnings ever, due in large part to sales of remarkable iPhone 4S. (We love our new white iPhone 4S more than anything else on Earth. This SFist editor and every privileged tween girl in SoCal thank you for the bitchin' phone, Apple!) "Apple's stock was up about 8% in after-hours trading about two hours after the market closed, which put its share price at $454," reports Information Week. "At that value, Apple's market capitalization stands at $423 billion, more than previous market cap leader Exxon Mobil, worth $418 billion."
Apple iPhone 5 Set for September Launch?
After June's WWDC failed to deliver any special phone gadgetry, we're now hearing word that Apple will launch the iPhone 5 in September. Probably. The new phone will allegedly come equipped with a stronger chip and a better camera, among other marvels of modern technology. "The device will include the A5 processor, the more powerful chip that Apple added to the iPad 2 earlier this year, along with an 8-megapixel camera, up from the 5-megapixel model in the iPhone 4, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the details aren’t public," reports Bloomberg.
Steve Jobs To Take Medical Leave Of Absence
Raising concerns again about his health, 55-year-old CEO Steve Jobs will take a medical leave of absence while remaining involved in “major strategic decisions” for Apple. Yikes.
Jobs announced the decision in the following email to employees:

Apple Sells 1M Phones
While some of us are more than content with our MetroPCS phones (questionably referred to as GhettoPCS in less esteemed circles), people are finally getting their first iPhones. So much so that Apple sold 1 million of them in just five days after the iPhone 3G S went on sale last Friday. What's more, more than six million customers have downloaded the new iPhone 3.0 software, according to San Francisco Business Times. "After using a 1960's-era Motorola Razr for years, I couldn't be happier with the new iPhone. Now the last five years are starting to make more sense" squees one friend of SFist.) Although stock prices had dipped after news of Steve Jobs' health was made public over the last few months, their stock has shot up since then, "closing up nearly 80 percent from those lows on Friday at $139.48."
Steve Jobs Had Liver Replaced
The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Apple CEO / His Holiness Steve Jobs just underwent a successful liver transplant. While initially reported back in 2004 that Jobs took leave of Apple due to a "hormone imbalance" -- a problem that can easily be cured by a case of Activa yogurt and a couple of Luna bars -- word is his (alleged) pancreatic cancer might have spread to his liver, hence the need for something as serious as an organ transplant. Much to the delight of fans and Apple investors, Jobs will be back to work at the end of June.
What Will Happen at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference?
You can feel it in the air. Mac sect members eagerly awaiting the next pearl of genius to drop at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference, which is happening right now at the Moscone Center. (Today's frenzy even managed to temporarily shutdown Digg.) Since your editor is a PC user, naturally, he only cares about the WWDC after-parties' amuse-bouche platters. But what say you, Apple fans? What's the hub, bub? What will be unleashed this year? Something light-weight and irresistibly twee yet hip, we hope. And for those of you who want to follow what's going on today through the 12th at the conference, check out Laughing Squid, gdgt, MacRumors, Macworld, Gizmodo, VentureBeat, the Mac Observer, or #apple for more information.
SEC to Steve Jobs: How You Feeling?
Not since Lindsey Lohan and Britney Spears has the media been so interested in one person's health condition. That person, of course, is Silicon Valley's Steve Jobs. And now the SEC wants to get in the know. Though the ailing Apple CEO has asked to be left alone regarding his health status, the Security and Exchange Commission is now asking the Mac cult leader what's up.
Apple Campus Catches Fire
For all you Mac zealots users out there, we have some disheartening news. The Apple campus in Cupertino caught fire last night. Fortunately, the three-alarm blaze caused no injuries, only some smoke damage. But security at the compound was so heavy last night that reporters had trouble getting the story out. According to Brittney Gilbert at CBS 5," Word has it that security was so tight at Apple headquarters that officials there called the cops on KRON staff members who were on the scene to report on the blaze." OMG, censorship! But to be fair, it was KRON4 News, so, you know, grain of salt. (CBS 5)
iPhone 3G Launch a Disaster?
Eeeps, iPhone 3G fans! According to Jordan Golson over at the Industry Standard, today's iPhone 3G has turned into a disaster. A few snafus? Well, iTunes activations are "completely offline" due to a global server crash of sorts, most Apple store workers make you activate the new phone at home (for reals? boo!), some stores allegedly have no shipments yet, and harrowing reports of lackluster customer service. (In other news, the Industry Standard is alive and kicking. Please standby for rooftop party invite info.)
Photos: Nerd Alert Prompts iPhone 3G Launch Lines
Here are people waiting in line. For a phone. The Jobian gadget went on sale today, and Flickr users joe.moore and Steve Rhodes, and Valleywag's Jackson West managed to snap up a few images. Enjoy. Oh, and if you have the brand-spanking new 3G in your grubby little hands, how is it?
Steve Jobs to Annouce New iPhone Magic

Getting to Know: Wallpaper
Wallpaper, a sweet/sleazy duo from Oakland will be serenading the head-bopping Noise Pop fans at Rickshaw Stop on Saturday night. They will be opening for the hipster-loving band, Panther. Wallpaper's infectious electronic sound can be heard on their new EP, T REX that will be digitally released in late April. You might file their EP between Prince and MSTRKRFT - quite an adventure. We touched base with the lead singer who answered (quite humorously) our very important questions in sometimes his own language. He ends up being a major slut with a nightmarish vendetta against a "crotchety old republican." If that's you, you better watch your back! He's ready to strike.
Getting to Know: The Papersons
Café du Nord will be the setting for a showcase of three talented local rock bands tonight: Raised By Robots, The Aimless Never Miss, and The Paper Sons. The Paper Sons, four extremely talented guys from the Bay Area, are known for their real alternative-rock sound (a bit of a throw back to the early 90's but somehow still very current). We got a chance to talk to Tom McCullough (pictured second to the left), the lead-singer of the band, about all of his favorite things and most important, his favorite spots in San Francisco. McCullough is the newest addition to this rock quartet. When we first introduced The Papersons to you, we mentioned that their EP was "arriving soon." Well, it has and it's good; very good.

Getting to Know... MiGGs
With over 70 shows since July 1st, MiGGs deserves a break but not until they play one last show in San Francisco. Featured on Monday in "This Week in Le Rock" MiGGs blend an alt/rock, emo, pop and classic rock sound to perfection. They are returning to Cafe du Nord this Saturday night before they take a month off to put the finishing touches of their newest album, Unraveled (which we'll be listening to at...

SFist Watches: Even More TV Premieres
Tonight's lone premiere is a show we have such little interest in we didn't even bother to check out the pilot when it was available for free online. It's called "Life is Wild" and it premieres at 8 p.m. on the CW. We really have nothing more to say about it, and in fact, the main purpose of this post is to make sure everyone knows about the premiere of "I Love New York 2" on VH-1 tomorrow at 9 p.m. As you may recall, New York did not find true love during the first season of her "Flavor of Love" spin-off, since Tango dumped her for making fun of his mother. Poor, crazy New York. Will she find her soul mate this time around? Of course we can't know that for sure, but our bets are on Midget Mac.
Is It Music or Just "Human Behavior"?
Oh Björk! You quixotic Icelandic vixen, you. You dancer on the tongue-tip of the art vanguard. You lucky multi-million-dollar musician. Unlike mere mortals who don't have the clout or funds to access such items, the modern music diva gets her very own reacTable with which to "wow audiences" while on tour this summer, according to Wired.com. SFist Leanne saw it in action herself, at Shoreline, back in May.
Love You Long Time?
The artists in We, Asian Sex Workers want to make it clear that they are not slaves or victims. They don't need to be "saved," but they would like some respect, or at the very least, sensitivity.
